    Feb 14th, 2018 at 11:08:10     -    1979 Revolution: Black Friday (PC)

Today was the second time playing 1979 Revolution Black Friday. As I am playing the game more, I've noticed that the mechanics of the game and the graphics aren't super high quality. For example, the character's mouth movements don't match very well with what they're saying, and I've noticed multiple times a character will walk through another character on the street for example. However, I will say that this hasn't bothered me too much, there's enough going on and enough things to pay attention to that it's easy to not focus on it.

My favorite part of my game play experience today was during the street rally and protests, the main character was in encouraged to take a lot of pictures of what was going on and the things that were happening. Then, each time a significant picture was taken, it would compare the image taken in the video game to real life historical photos during this time. It would also provide information about the picture, detailing historical facts and describing what things were like during this time. I thought this was really interesting, and I have been learning a lot.

I also found myself very immersed in the game, like when my character tripped in the streets while running away from the police, and dropped the camera, I was really involved and anxious to see what would happen and if I got my camera back and would escape. I like how the game is pulling you in this way.

    Feb 13th, 2018 at 00:07:39     -    1979 Revolution: Black Friday (PC)

Today was my first time playing 1979 Revolution - Black Friday. My first impression of the game is that it is very story based, pretty intense, with a lot of choices to make along the way. I also noticed that it moves very fast paced. For example, you only get a short amount of time to decide what you want to pick as your response in conversational situations. So far I like following along with the story, I like being a photographer, and I like all of the different options the character gets as far as response dialog, and actions decisions. I think the setting of the game is really interesting and really intriguing, it prompted me to look up the historical Iran protests, and got me to learn something I probably wouldn't have before. It's really interesting that video games can be the source of that, and they can be such a wide array of subject matter, breaking and redefining stereotypes.

    Jan 17th, 2018 at 18:34:14     -    FireWatch (PC)

I played about two more hours of Firewatch today, and after my experience with it yesterday, I have come to realize that is just what the game is, I guess. I thought I was just taking a really long time navigating the forest and wasting a bunch of time getting from point A to finding point B, but I think that is just a big part of the game. I kept waiting for something else bigger to happen, or for something big for me to do. I suppose the point of the game is just a slow-paced walk-through game where you slowly get closer to Delilah's character and explore that relationship. I'm sure there are some bigger events that happen, I just haven't gotten to those yet and I am getting kind of bored at it. Especially because I am not good at navigating. One observation I do have regarding the characters is that there communicative style is very brash and sarcastic. Neither one of them seem like the greatest people, but then again I don't know them that well yet. I do hope the game gets more exciting and more happens, because right now I don't love it.

    Jan 16th, 2018 at 21:51:03     -    Firewatch (PC)

Today I played my second hour on Firewatch. The majority of my time was spent wandering around the forest trying to find the specific locations. I guess I'm just not very good at navigating in gaming situations, but the map that was provided was helpful, and it was nice that it updates based on where you are. I have to admit I got pretty frustrated when I kept wandering deeper and deeper into the trees, and didn't enjoy my experience all that much. I realize I need to spend a lot more time to get acquainted on how to play this game and how to navigate. One thing I've read about this game, is it's theme of loneliness, and through playing today I definitely experienced that. You don't get to talk on the radio all that often, and there's really not that much to do or anyone else to talk to. I'm really curious to find out how the story develops and the affects on the character. Hopefully I continue to get better at navigating so I can enjoy the game a bit more and start to see what else there is to do.
