pbharris's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1063Batman: Arkham Asylum (360) - Mon, 19 Oct 2009 08:24:54https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3982SUMMARY Batman Arkham Asylum is a third person action-adventure and puzzle game where you play as the Dark Knight himself, Bruce Wayne. The story behind the game centers around the Joker and his typical "funny buisness". It all begins when Batman brings the Joker to Arkham Asylum. The Joker breaks free, lets all of his henchmen out of their cells, and takes over the asylum. As Batman, you must stop the Joker's evil plot and bring order back to Arkham Asylum. GAMEPLAY Being Batman is awesome! He has cool gadgets and fighting moves and is the stealthiest superhero ever. You also get to play like this in the game. In the Story Mode, you must use your batarangs, batclaw, and grapling gun to defeat henchmen and sneak through the asylum. Besides beating up bad guys, you have to answer riddles and find hidden maps and interview tapes. When you collect these hidden items and reach certain checkpoints in the game you can unlock certain extras. Levels for Challenge Mode are examples of unlockables. In Challenge Mode you must defeat all of Joker's henchmen in a certain manner, whether it be by steath or by sheer force. GAMEPLAY It is easy to maneuver when you are Batman. He can jump, glide, and scale walls with ease. The camera is set in third person so you can always get a good view of your surroundings and your attackers. Henchmen aren't hard to beat but their power is in numbers. Playing this game is so much fun that I spent multiple hours playing in one sitting. The story behind the game involves multiple characters from the Batman comics. DESIGN The graphics of the game are great. Characters and rooms are greatly detailed. The story is set during the night so everything is very dark, just as Batman likes it. The asylum's buildings are very dated and gives the game an eerie feel. Batman Arkham Asylum isn't level-based; it is room-based. You must progress through different rooms and offices in the asylum.Mon, 19 Oct 2009 08:24:54 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3982&iddiary=7444Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) - Mon, 05 Oct 2009 22:22:27https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3975SUMMARY The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a third person action-adventure and puzzle game where you play as Link, an elf-like boy from the fictional world of Hyrule. As Link, you must save Hyrule from the evil Ganondorf who's main plan is to obtain the sacred Triforce, a source of god-like power. GAMEPLAY I have played this game in the past and was excited to pick it up again. The controls are very easy due to the HUD that shows the action performed by each button. Also, more complex controls are fully explained in the beginning of the game. There is a great story to the game that moves gameplay very well. Each 'dungeon' or level is filled with challenging puzzles and enemies that can keep you entertained for hours. This installment of The Legend of Zelda is the first to be played in 3D. GAMEPLAY The controls of Zelda are very smooth and simple. I'm really happy with the configuration. The environment and NPC's are fairly well detailed (for a N64 game). I became a little frustrated with the cut-scenes because they sort of took away from the gameplay and are unable to skip and are very slow. DESIGN Zelda has recieved near-perfect reviews and definitely lives up to all of them. I enjoyed every aspect of the game from the different levels, side quests and story. The gameplay is designed very well. The controls are simple and smooth making it a game almost anyone can pick up and play, creating a wide range of playersMon, 05 Oct 2009 22:22:27 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3975&iddiary=7426Goldeneye 007 (N64) - Mon, 28 Sep 2009 22:32:35https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3863SUMMARY Goldeneye 007 is a first person shooter that puts you in the body of the famous MI6 agent James Bond. As James Bond, you once again try to save the world by completing dangerous missions using your stealth and quick thinking skills. This particular storyline was based off of the movie Goldeneye. GAMEPLAY I was excited to play Goldeneye 007 since I am a big James Bond fan and have seen the movie too. Starting the first mission is a thrill. The controls are fairly simple so it is easy to play. Aiming isn't very troublesome because the computer gives you a sort of 'auto-aim' fature (maybe because I stuck to a lower difficulty). Missions are straightforward since there is really only one planned route for you to follow. Multiplayer is a ton of fun to play with a good group of friends. This is the main reason I, and many others, enjoy the game. It is a fast-paced gameplay mode that is centered around one objective: staying alive. There are different game modes like License to Kill (one hit kill) and The Living Daylights (sort of king-of-the-hill style) that mix gameplay up and make it interesting. GAMEPLAY At first, I was rather annoyed at the movement controls (mostly because I am used to controllers with two joysticks). But as you play on, you get accustomed to it all. The graphics are another thing that got on my nerves. Now-a-days we are used to very detailed 3D models and environments. I'm not one of those players that plays much of the singleplayer missions so I invited friends over to play Goldeneye multiplayer often. DESIGN At the time it was made, Goldeneye 007 was a state-of-the-art video game. But if one were to play it today, they would be very disappointed. The simplistic controls and gameplay make it a good game to pick up and play. You also get the option to change the difficulty and the amount of objectives for the singleplayer missions. The multiplayer option of the game offers plenty of social interaction between players. Up to four people can play and there are multiple game modes and levels in multiplayer. There are plenty of levels, guns, playable characters, and cheat codes to keep players interested for hours. The more you play, the more accustomed to the gameplay and the maps become more familiar. My favorite game mode is where you try to destroy the other team's defenses. I like this because it involves a higher lever of planning and synchronization between teammates. The levels in the game seem to be just the right size. There is never an empty area; every part of the map is involved in some sort of action. DESIGN: I think the graphics, realistic effects, and class mechanics make DoD:S a good game. Since the original installment, DoD:S has been moved to the Source Engine. This is a big upgrade to the graphics. The environment looks more realistic. The effects of DoD:S model those of the real world. Explosions and bullet fire all react as if it was real. Most of the environment (signs, barrels, tables, and chairs) is destructable and shows bullet holes if fired into. I also like the different soldier classes in the game. Each soldier's strengths and weaknesses are balaced out by other members of the team which means that teamwork is essential for success. Since DoD:S is strictly multiplayer, the game relies heavily on interaction between players. Chatting and even voice communication is widely used during matches.Sun, 23 Aug 2009 21:09:07 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3831&iddiary=7196Day of Defeat: Source (PC) - Sun, 23 Aug 2009 17:55:59https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3831SUMMARY: Day of Defeat: Source is a first-person shooter that is set during World War 2. It is strictly multiplayer. In the game, you are able to play as the U.S. Army or the German Wehrmacht. Each team is made up of soldiers from six unique classes. Each class has a unique set of weapons that is vital to the teams' success There are two main game modes. One mode is a standard Capture the Flag game mode. The other mode is centered around the destruction of the opposing team's various vehicles and defenses. GAMEPLAY: I felt that while Day of Defeat: source (DoD:s) is fun to play, it is no real different than any other first-person WWII based multiplayer game. This game is simple to play and enjoyable for hours but fails to bring anything unique and outstanding to the world of WWII FPS games. DoD:S is one of those games that you can play when you have an hour of free time and need something fun to do. Playing with the different classes and weapons is fun. Each class seems to have certain strengths and weaknesses that makes a player's strategy important.Sun, 23 Aug 2009 17:55:59 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3831&iddiary=7187
