Shadow's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1276Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Sun, 08 Aug 2010 19:41:56https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4297BONUS ENTRY!!! Done. I finally beat the game. And by beat - I mean completed. Killed everything, collected every item, and made it to the final cut-scene. Having seen the Island of Lost Souls, I see how this game tried again at satire. The various people on the island were trapped in Hell because of how Christianity or at least the version being criticized qualifies people for Hell. Eg, there were various people who had not even heard of Christianity in Hell, as well as many honorable people. Aside from the items that gave you bonuses, I feel like this was the first piece of actual satire in a long time. The game then went on with more copyright infringement. All the enemies were stolen from Doom, as were many of the weapons, and the final boss was stolen from South Park. Doom is an open source game, so I don't think the makers are breaking any rules there, but to steal from South Park, too, is kind of immoral in my opinion. But maybe they asked or something. Watching the final cutscene I saw some more attempt at satire. All the speakers at the event had some idea of what caused the event and their own idea on how to fix it. The first speaker probably spoke more with the game's message of saying if "A caused B and then C, we'd stop A" But then again the game seems to want to say what the main characters did was right so I'm not sure. I also still don't understand the German. Was it something Eric did in real life, too, or something?Sun, 08 Aug 2010 19:41:56 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4297&iddiary=8017Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Mon, 02 Aug 2010 02:51:44https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4297After watching the slideshow from Hell, I made it to Hell. They made a bad joke about the Twin Towers, too. I'm really not sure what the intention of the game was. I'm almost certain it was all for shock value. Particularly because of the Twin Tower joke that had nothing to do with anything. I found all the cutscenes, I checked online to make sure I never missed anything, and they pretty much showed them being moody or picked on (at least in their minds). Now apparently I am a demon god in Hell. There were about three people spared in the whole thing. I also noticed crying healed them. The designers were definitely just going for shock value.Mon, 02 Aug 2010 02:51:44 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4297&iddiary=8003Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Sun, 01 Aug 2010 22:16:50https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4297So at first I thought maybe the game had a message. And now I'm doubting that. At first I thought it was all sarcasm. It might still be, but it might have lost its meaning somewhere along the way. I finally got to what seemed like the core gameplay. Many of the people don't fight back. You just run around killing stereotypes. I also noticed that you don't kill them when they die, it said defeated or fainted or something other than die, which I thought was interesting. There were some random poems, flashbacks, and movie clips, too. I am starting to think this game was made by some kid. I also heard the game was made using a tool called RPG Maker. That would explain a lot. The game seems very unprofessional, so it only lends more to my suspicion that it wasn't made for a reason except maybe shock value. Also, the game rewards you with items sometimes and calls you brave.Sun, 01 Aug 2010 22:16:50 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4297&iddiary=8000Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Fri, 30 Jul 2010 21:18:27https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4297So, this site is really poorly organized, in my opinion, so take two: The game is strange. The font is miserably hard to read. I have no idea what they are saying half the time and an l seems to be a t. I was also surprised the game was made by Japanese companies. That aside, I sensed a lot of sarcasm. Items have sarcastic and strange descriptions and bonuses. Like Doom gave me extra damage. I am left to wonder the game maker's intentions. It wasn't to entertain - this game is miserably boring and a ton of dialog. I got to plant the bombs, and get the guns and go through some more dialog so maybe the game will pick up. No shooting yet. One of the kids seemed pretty occupied with letting everyone know the people that helped him - like bought him guns, and his family, and his friends weren't at fault. The other one just seemed to want revenge. Whether that was the case with the real people or just the characters, I don't know.Fri, 30 Jul 2010 21:18:27 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4297&iddiary=7998Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2) - Fri, 23 Jul 2010 22:35:56https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4281So, once again on the PC. It has been getting easier mousing with my foot, but piloting a plane turned out rather impossible. So, while playing, I noticed there were a few racial remarks or jokes. But it really seemed like what we discussed in class - is ok to make a non-flattering movie about something? Well, racial issues exist, are you going to sacrifice realism just so kids that theoretically shouldn't be playing anyway don't decide something or other. As with Resident Evil - it's ok to kill Spaniards, but Africans in Africa?! That's racist! Apparently. Everyone in the game, regardless of race seems pretty criminal or corrupt. One cop makes a comment about Mexicans and then realizes his squadmate is Mexican. It's clearly done as a joke. I think the game just wants to portray realistic characters that fit with the gameplay. The main character just happens to be African American. But maybe I just haven't played enough, I certainly didn't do the missions. I could say a lot about how I feel about the topic, but I'll try to stick to the game. I didn't really do much with the game itself. It's a sandbox and I treated it like one. I drove around and caused a *MASSIVE* pile up by pulling over to the side, ending with cars on top of each other and explosions.Fri, 23 Jul 2010 22:35:56 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4281&iddiary=7965Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2) - Fri, 23 Jul 2010 02:28:19https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4281Day 2, this time on the computer The controls are next to impossible. Being left handed is tough with gaming usually. I ended up using my foot to control the camera. I was only able to get some of the buttons working for an XBox controller. It became a messy mixture of keyboard, mouse, and XBox controls. So I decided to use cheats. As I feel you should for this kind of game. That's also the topic of ethics in this log. Many people feel like cheats are unethical or something. If it were me vs someone else and I could use cheats and they couldn't then I could see it as being unethical or wrong or something, but when it's me vs computer who cares? Games are supposed to be fun, if the cheats are making it more fun (and they are!), they are good. And they're part of the game anyway. All GTA games feature a long list of very funny cheats. I used one to make all my punches super lethal and another to make all the people in the town fire rocket launchers when they saw me. It was amusing to see as soon as I entered the code, everyone turned to me, stopped their cars and got out, and all ran straight at me. When I got out the hospital, a missile came out of nowhere and instantly put me back in. This went on for probably half an hour as I tried to make my way to somewhere I could save. I eventually got away, but had to use a money cheat to buy a house to save. Also inside was a pixelated semi-pornographic image. So more ethics there, too. In short, steroids - bad; flying cars - good.Fri, 23 Jul 2010 02:28:19 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4281&iddiary=7963Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2) - Wed, 21 Jul 2010 23:31:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4281So, as tempted as I was to claim I played this on the NGage, I decided I was being graded for this after all. I had one simple goal - fly a plane. The problem with the modern GTAs is that they go for realism, in my opinion. (Which is why they removed planes from the future versions) They strive for more "realistic" gameplay with fancy plots about morality and physics. GTA players would probably agree with my statement that "I don't play GTA to tackle moral issues and consider my actions or their value or blah blah blah" No, you go on a mass killing spree, the army shows up, eventually you get "Wasted", rinse and repeat. Also the cars used to be much easier and more fun to drive. The thing though is while you seemingly blow up, run over, or shoot thousands of people as well as steal their cars, you don't feel like you inconvenienced anyone in their world at all. You don't even consider now that guy who's car you stole now has to walk to work, let alone 'I have slaughtered half a city'. Will people come to see other real people like this? I doubt it. Reading through some of the other entries, I've noticed people seem to care mostly about the language of all things. The amount of shock the writers conveyed shocked me. I admit even I noticed some sexist remarks, but perhaps only because I was listening for them. But it certainly didn't seem like the biggest moral issue in the game. Maybe they just don't have anything better to write about. The rest of log is dedicated to telling about my exciting adventure. Plane included. As I said, I wanted to fly a plane. The game, however, decided to try to force its plot on me or something. I decided to make use of my bike and peddle around the whole map via train. Hopefully ending in train to bike combat. Unfortunately, a train snuck up on me. I survived the encounter though. I then reached a part of the game where the game wanted me to have done plot to move on, so I swam across. Swimming - an ability I would come to regret... I then found another train, but with no bike, it became fist to train combat. I ended up clipping through the train and discovered you can steal them! I forced the conductor to jump a cliff and a long chase involving the police ensued and I eventually derailed and died. But then I finally found the airport! Apparently they wanted me to do some flying school, so I just made a bridge out of cars and snuck in. My first plane ride ended like 9/11, but then I grabbed another one and climbed as high as I thought I could go and bailed out. I fell for a few game hours and hit water. I then spent well over half a day of continuous swimming through a terrible storm to reach land. In that time, I leveled up my stats at least three times. And then I got out, got back in and drowned myself and went to my next class. If only I had a memory card... :/Wed, 21 Jul 2010 23:31:51 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4281&iddiary=7962
