tmattson's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1317Columbine RPG (PC) - Mon, 25 Oct 2010 17:15:15https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4413This final round of Columbine RPG, I got to thinking a bit about this game and its attempted tone. I found after defeating all the people I could find in the parking lot, cafeteria, gym, library, bathrooms, and all classrooms I came across, that the game greatly exaggerated the massacre that had happened. Not only did they exaggerate all of the shootings that went on, the creators seemed to push what they thought were the influences for these two teens turning on the school. These influences from the beginning were music and movies, after finishing the cafeteria; we learn that one was a social outcast. He would sit alone at lunch and be ignored, which grew a lot of anger for society. Later on after finishing the gym off, it shows us that the other one was bullied by jocks, being made fun of for his haircut, the clothes he wore, and was called weak. The game showed a tone of revenge toward its social enemies, as they put it: a war against society. After the boys committed suicide, there was a video of some of the aftermath as well as almost glorifying the two teens for their brutality. There were pictures of crosses with the teen’s names on them, as well as a picture of each. This signified their acts as almost godlike, as if they should be praised and worshiped for their acts and sacrifice. I stopped after going through some of what they depicted as Hell, where Dylan got a pistol to fend off demons in Hell. So much for being saviors.Mon, 25 Oct 2010 17:15:15 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4413&iddiary=8256Columbine RPG (PC) - Sun, 24 Oct 2010 19:53:44https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4413After failing many times, I came back to finally get past the hall monitors and cameras. I planted the bombs in the cafeteria, and continued on to fail even more going the other way through the hallway. After another 10-15 minutes of repeating the hallways, I finally got passed and continued on to getting ready for the slaughter that was ahead. After failing so many times, I really got into the slaughter aspect. I geared up with my shotguns, rifle, tec-9 pistol and selection of knives and went on to the killing. I tried doing the manual firing first but just got tired of it, so I ended up auto-firing through the rest of the students, teachers, and janitors. I did notice that the game was a bit more into slaughter then the two teens actually did. The first section of the killing was through the school classrooms and the hallway. From what I remember, the two teens did go through the hallway, but they mainly shot people in the cafeteria and the library. I did get to slaughter a bunch of people in the cafeteria but that’s as far as I got.Sun, 24 Oct 2010 19:53:44 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4413&iddiary=8239Columbine RPG (PC) - Sat, 23 Oct 2010 12:44:42https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4413I started playing ‘Super Columbine Massacre RPG!’ and was a little shocked at all of the dialog going on to set up what emotions the two teens may have been feeling. While looking through the basement, you find the Marilyn Manson CD, the prescription medication, the movie script you read, as well as the flashback from the pizza box. The flashback gave you a sense of their first ideas to blow up the school. Then I grabbed the two duffel bags and the bombs and continued on. From their final recordings, you take a ride in the car with them preaching to each other. After getting to the school, I spent the next 10 minutes attempting to go through the halls avoiding the cameras and hall monitors. After failing so many times, I found myself actually wanting to get further into the game where you slaughter people. Who would have thought that failing something that seemed so simple would cause such frustration to make you want to virtually slaughter dozens?Sat, 23 Oct 2010 12:44:42 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4413&iddiary=8229Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2) - Mon, 04 Oct 2010 21:33:37https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4373For my third and final day, I went back to missions. However I ended up repeatedly failing the first mission, either by dying or getting busted. Anyhow, today’s two missions were on drive-bys and a more interesting mission about beating up crack-dealers. Now for the most part, I have seen pretty immoral missions and actions either forced or simply for fun. The first day was about stealing bikes, and then my second was about total mayhem. As you can see they were pretty immoral things. So I found the mission where you beat up crack-heads pretty interesting. For a game all about unethical actions, today I experienced an action where I did something bad, but good at the same time. By that I mean, I beat up a dealer and then beat up a bunch of dealers and such in a house. Beating someone up, much less a group, is a bad thing. However, the good thing was I did it to drug dealers to stop them from selling drugs in my neighborhood. I believe in the overall big picture, clearing those drug dealers were to rally more gang members and to increase turf presence and respect, so it wasn’t out of the good nature of our hearts. Bring on more killing!Mon, 04 Oct 2010 21:33:37 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4373&iddiary=8177Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2) - Sun, 03 Oct 2010 00:47:25https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4373For the second play session, I decided to take a break from the missions and just enjoy the free roaming part of the game. I found myself doing many unethical and immoral things around the city. At first, it was just hijacking cars. This small unethical thing was a gateway to much other unethical and illegal mayhem that followed. I went from hijacking cars, to running over pedestrians, to drive-bys, to doing it just to escape police. I found myself twenty minutes in stealing cars in front of the police, driving recklessly and crashing into squad cars, shooting their engines, hoping they would burst into flames. I would dislike it a little bit if a game company was promoting such a hectic experience; however at the same time I think it is a good thing. We all need some kind of venting system to get rid of any frustration or attitude we built up during the day. As utilitarianism says, who cares as long as it makes us happy.Sun, 03 Oct 2010 00:47:25 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4373&iddiary=8156Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2) - Fri, 01 Oct 2010 22:22:24https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4373I recently started playing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas again. I had played it a bunch a long time ago, but not until I started playing it again have I remembered what it was like. I started a whole new game to get a good feel for the story once again. The premise is pretty much Carl’s mother was murdered, and so Carl comes back to his old neighborhood which has turned for the worse. I witnessed dirty cops giving Carl the business from the very beginning. From there you find yourself at the first ethical question: steal or not to steal? By that I mean, you are told to steal some random bike that happens to be near you. As such, we all take the bike not thinking anything of it. I rode the bike to Carl’s old house, got threatened by a man with a bat. Then, I continued on to being insulted and pushed by Carl’s brother. From there, I did a mission with a friend named Ryder. This mission took me to get my haircut and eat a pizza from the pizza shop across the street. This turns into Ryder attempting to hold the pizza shop up, in which I talk him down enough for the guy behind the counter to pull a shotgun on us, and chase us down the street with it. From there it turns into a gang turf type of story. Spray some things on walls, run away from other gangs, trying not to get the attention of the police. All of which seems to be a normal day for the neighborhood citizens. So from the very beginning you are forced into a thug type lifestyle. Stealing bikes, holding up pizza shops, spray painting gang lingo on walls, promoting gang colors and turf wars. I feel more thuggish already, Yo yo.Fri, 01 Oct 2010 22:22:24 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4373&iddiary=8147
