joel.guth's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1462Columbine RPG (PC) - Wed, 12 Oct 2011 10:04:57https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4807 This game is just downright annoying, every time you get caught by a hall monitor you basically have to start all over again. I can’t even keep playing I’m so aggravated. I’ve basically memorized how to get through the stupid hallways because I’ve done it so many times I can’t count. What a dumb game. The one overly apparent theme in this game was violence, because everything you do is for the purpose of destroying the school and killing the kids in it. I’m curious why the developer thought this was a good idea for a game, everything about it is so wrong. What was the developers purpose for creating the game? Was he trying to get a point across? Overall, I was very bothered by the game and the fact that it was so frustrating just made me hate it even more. Like I mentioned before the language was over the top, and extremely annoying. You aren’t allowed to make any choices in the game, such as not planting the bombs. The whole narrative is already written for you. This is not a game I would ever spend my valuable time playing again. It took me forever to finally get past the hallway monitors and cameras. I also renamed the sound and music folders for the game because they got ridiculously annoying. The game is all around poor on the development front, good thing it was free… I finally got to the end of the hallway, but where the heck are you supposed to go in the cafeteria? Turns out you have to grab the propane bombs from the trunk… Good thing I pay attention to my surroundings. Anyways, you then proceed to plant some bombs under tables in the cafeteria. Now what? I seem to be getting lost in such a simple game… I got back out and grabbed some guns and now I’m clueless. There appears to be an excessive amount of violence in this game. Everything the developer made is extremely over the top, like the language I mentioned before. The game is very violent, and quite obviously would have a high rating ESRB rating if ever released to the shelves in stores. Not a game I would recommend to any parents with children.Tue, 11 Oct 2011 22:23:06 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4807&iddiary=8906Columbine RPG (PC) - Mon, 10 Oct 2011 21:38:41https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4807The whole concept of Columbine RPG really bothers me. Who would find it interesting and entertaining to recreate such a horrific experience, and allow other to play it over again? It seems somewhat sick and twisted. Fortunately for me, I’m only playing it as a requirement for this class. The game starts out like a normal day, you wake up, call your buddy, grab your explosives from the basement…err wait… explosives? The first thing that jumped out at me was the choice of language throughout the entire conversations. You can’t go more than a couple words without an F bomb or any other lovely four letter words popping up. I guess it fits the context of the game, but it seems very over the top, almost excessive. One of the most humorous aspects of the game for me was that when you got busted with either a hall monitor or a camera, you were just kicked out of the building, but you were allowed to walk right back in. Clearly the consequences of getting caught weren’t thought over in the development of the game. It seems like so far most of the game involves sneaking past the obstacles in the hallway to reach the end to the cafeteria. Even once you’re in the cafeteria you have to avoid all the same obstacles. I found it extremely annoying. Overall, the violent language seems to be the most obvious issue so far in the game.Mon, 10 Oct 2011 21:38:41 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4807&iddiary=8880Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC) - Wed, 28 Sep 2011 10:10:59https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4770 For the third time playing this game, I got a little bored of doing all the missions, so I decided to take advantage of the open world and run around to explore. On my exploration, I found some pretty cool cars that I jacked from some people. I parked them in my garage to keep them if I liked them enough. But stealing cars was only exciting for a short while. I decided I should make my free roam worthwhile, and see how I could handle the police. At this point, I of course input some cheat codes for some awesome weapons since you don’t start off with weapons nearly good enough to fend off the police. At this point, I found a nice little pizza shop to hold up, and let loose my weaponry. Quickly my stars began increasing, which also meant the forces of officers began increasing also. Once the SWAT team came, I knew I was getting to the end of my run. There are a couple things about this game that, after playing it for a while seem to bother me a little. The first is the amount of officers and SWAT you can kill off in a matter of seconds. When playing the game, you don’t even second guess if I should shoot this weapon and kill these officers. The other is the amount of pedestrians that are killed in just the exploration of the city. It’s so easy to run them over and not go back to check on them. But it’s fun, right? In the context of the game yes, it is fun. These things bother me less when I realize it is just that, a game. All of the killing and the shooting are okay, and most of the time necessary in the context of the game. Like I said previously, the game opens up a virtual world, where you as the player can do whatever you please without suffering consequences for most of your actions. I passed the bike mission after several attempts. Finally learning the controls made it a breeze. It’s not much fun when you’re being chased by people with guns in a vehicle, and all you have is a bike to escape. After completing the mission, I answered the phone and started off on the next one. I quickly got sick of riding my bike, and peddling up hills. The obvious solution was to find some unsuspecting person, and steal their vehicle. Call me a criminal. Lucky for me a cop witnessed me stealing the vehicle, and I gained a star. Not wanting to be arrested, I hit the roads with the petal to the medal. Yeah I killed a couple pedestrians escaping the police, but I made it away without being arrested. I’d call that a win. After getting confused and running around, I had several encounters with the police, and stole a bunch of vehicles to escape them. I also found you can kill them and steal their guns, giving me another upper hand. The one interesting aspect of this game is that it’s a free world, even though there are missions. I can explore any part of this island I would like, except for the areas that have to be unlocked later in the game. So far it seems that most of the things happening in this game involve you breaking a law or killing a person at some point to succeed. There aren’t any points in the game where I’ve stopped and asked myself “would it be wrong for me to steal this person’s car?” or “Should I drive more carefully so I don’t kill pedestrians?” Obviously if this game wasn’t a game, I wouldn’t make half the choices I am. In real life there would be consequences. In the game, those consequences seem minimal and not really an issue. (This entry has been edited1 time. First, you start the narrative off being captured by the police just after you left the airport. It sounds as though the officers are framing you for killing an officer with a gun they had for evidence. Sounds like a bad day if you ask me... I always figured you played the bad character through much of the Grand Theft Auto series, but it appears that's not the case, the officers are actually abusing their power and are in fact corrupt. After grabbing a random bike i assume i stole... i headed towards my house. On the way i passed several shady looking individuals, and what seemed like at least 10 hookers, quickly discovering the loads of money you recieve when running them over. Entering the house starts a cutscene, filled with an abundance of 'F bombs' and other crude words, which is the intro to the first misson. After visiting your mothers grave, you're attacked by a drive by shooting. This is where it gets exciting. So far, much of this game is about survival and money. You have to make decisions that will help you along the game, such as killing the hookers for money. Most of the choices aren't ethical in the real world, but in the context of the game they may be necessary to aid in completing missions. For example, i stole a bike to start with... that doesn't seem right. But i needed the bike to get to my house faster. This is a small example, but as the game goes on i'm sure they'll become larger choices.Mon, 26 Sep 2011 20:58:09 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4770&iddiary=8780
