Relinquisher KOS-MOS's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=148Soul Calibur III (PS2) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 05:18:39https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1376I am usually pretty successful as Voldo in the one player mode of Soul Calibur III and today was no different. Again, Voldo's strength lies in his unpredictable and powerful abilities. My personal favorite of his many stances is the Mantis Crawl inwhich he stands on four limbs, face first, giving him optimal position for dodging attacks as well as executing them. However, aside from the stances, in this parituclar game experience I found the Manas and Ayus the weapons of choice for general play. In my opinion, they are that which the player is most balanced and most easily accustomed to. However,I did appreciate the Karma and Mara weaponry obtained in Chapter 8 Merak. With this option I had a much stronger defense (an increase much needed against opponents like gnisngs).Since I have played this game many times before the journey was fun and just challenging enough for gameplay to remain as such. I did however have slight trouble at the chapter versus Talim. It seemed as though during this battle, each attack on the opponent was met with a range of side steps which I will admit are a little difficult at times to respond to with Voldo as your player. Also, Talim utilized Voldo's lack on mid- range moves and at times sporatic blocking abilitiy to her advantage, making my job a little more difficult at this stage. However, the character was eventually defeated along with the journey in due time. Although it is not as good as Soul Calibur II, it still remains an entertaining and challenging pastime. Chronicles of the Sword mode is interesting to explore, many avenues of gameplay are available in this mode. When I'm in the mood for unlocking special items etc or simply want to kick butt, this is the mode I play while paying no attention to the storyline what so ever. Next, I enjoy one player mode rather intensely, when I get into it there is no stopping me. Each character is generally fun and useful in this mode, with faults and strengths pertaining to each. I do, however, enjoy reading the actual stories in this mode because they do tend to be subsequently more interesting and entertaining than that of the Chronicles of the Sword (no idea why they seem different to me, they just do). I will admit that I am however partial to Voldo when it comes to any type of gameplay, especially one player. In my opinion, he has the most interesting and unpredictable abilities of the entire series. I really enjoy the variety in his stances as well as the overall hilarity of his general demeanor. For example, while all other characters taunt opponents with harsh words and criticism, Voldo, in all his greatness, completely bypasses the notion of forming words at all when speaking. Instead, this ultimate scientific experiment hisses and grunts to get your attention. Seeing as how this is so prevalent in the game, especially in the loading process, my take on the matter is that Voldo is so incredibly talented that he simply doesn't have to engage in normal conversation with opponents, he does whatever he wants. In short, Voldo owns them all. Aside from personality etc., I find the story of Voldo most interesting of all, there is something about the search for a girl that entices me for some reason. I also enjoy a participation in the versus mode as I do find a battle with friends fun too. (This entry has been edited1 time. Something tells me she did something horrible in the past. Anyway, I fought a dragon in a forest I ended up in. It was an easy fight. But, it was designed nicely. First, I fought him hand-to-hand. It wasn't to difficult, but eventually Citan Uzuki came and gave me my Gear. This made the fight much easier. I viewed the fight from a nice side view so I could see my Gear. It really was designed nicely. I managed to defeat the dragon and continue the story. So far, I think this is where the most dialog occured. Citan and Elly talked and talked and talked some more. It wasn't bad, the story is good, but it gets tiring to read a lot. Maybe that's just me though. I like cutscenes because it I think they draw me into the game more. I can see the characters' emotions better. I think I would have liked it if they made those long dialogs into cutscenes, but the story is a least good enough to want to finish reading. And it is the Playstation, so I wouldn't give the game a lower score just because of that. I also noticed the design of the various areas. I thought for the Playstation, they looked pretty nice. I could tell the forest was a forest. And it really felt like I was walking through a forest which was good. The town was pretty nice and so were the mountains. But, I think I was impressed with the forest the most so far. Finally, I learned that it is possible to jump in this game. This was so weird for me because I haven't played many RPGs where you can jump. I think only the Kingdom Hearts games I could jump in. I like jumping, but it doesn't really add anything to this game. So far, I think it would be fine even if there wasn't any jumping. Overall though, the game is fun and the story is good so I'll keep playing it.Fri, 09 Feb 2007 12:08:43 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1164&iddiary=2624Xenogears (PS) - Thu, 08 Feb 2007 16:53:36https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1164So, I just managed to get a copy of Xenogears for about $20. I've been hearing a lot of good things about it and decided to see for myself. I've barely started though. I started in a town and just wandered around town for a bit collecting stuff and talking to people. It was fun because I learned a little about the game too. When I was done in town I set out to the mountains to pay a visit to a guy named Citan Uzuki. He's a crazy guy. He kept blowing up stuff trying to invent or whatever it was he was doing. He is the first party member I was able to converse with, so that was kind of nice. So far in this game, I was impressed with the few cutscenes they had. I can't say I've ever seen a videogame with hand-drawn cutscenes. I kind of wish they had more cutscenes because there is a lot of dialog so far. But, since it is the Playstation, I think I can give them a break. Plus, I guess it's good to read anyway. But, when I met up with Elly, there was really a lot of dialog so it would have been nice to have more cutscenes there. It's funny going back to the Playstation when the graphics weren't great. Watching characters talk when they look like little polygons is kind of funny at times. I see the characters and then I compare them to the Gears (which are giant mech things) and I think there is a difference. I thought the Gears looked a lot better than the characters, but maybe that is just me. All I know is that the Gears are fun to fight in. I just like the look of it when you're inside the Gear. I guess this brings me to battles. I like the battle system so far. It's fun. It's simple. It's different. I think that's why I like it. I like trying out new battle systems. So far, this one is good for me because the menus are easy to navigate through. And it's easy to attack. Plus, you learn moves called Deathblows to add some excitement to the battles.Thu, 08 Feb 2007 16:53:36 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1164&iddiary=2494Mario Party (N64) - Mon, 29 Jan 2007 07:01:22https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=927So, after winning one, I ended up playing again with my roommates. Of course, I was Yoshi again. This time, we went back to 20 turns. I was so relieved. 35 turns is a bit much for me especially when they end up making you do the same mini-games. That was one downside. There probably could have been more mini-games to avoid any redundancy. When playing over again and seeing levels for the second time, I noticed the boards more. For the most part, I thought they designed the boards nicely. I was a bit sad they didn't have more boards and characters though. Well, no matter how many characters there are, I will always be Yoshi. But, it was the first one in the series so of course it had it's flaws. I haven't played any of the other ones in the series, but I hope to someday to compare them. Nevertheless, Mario Party was a fun experience because it brought all the roommates together. I think there's something about Mario games, at least the multi-player ones, that bring people together. Sometimes, games are worse when you add addtional human players, but Mario Party is just as good if not better with more human players.Mon, 29 Jan 2007 07:01:22 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=927&iddiary=2054Mario Party (N64) - Sun, 28 Jan 2007 19:26:32https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=927So, I've been playing Mario Party with my roommates. We have a grudge against Luigi and Wario. So, we do our best to beat them. I always play as Yoshi because Yoshi is is just the greatest. We generally play 20 turns, but my roommate changed it to 35 for one round thinking it wouldn't take that long. When we hit our tenth turn, we thought it was halfway done, but we still had 25 more turns to go. We went to Yoshi's Island which was fine with me since I was Yoshi. There are quite a few mini games in Mario Party. Some I like, but some just give me a migraine because I simply cannot master them. The ones where you have to rotate the control stick made my arm really tired. The paddle one and tug-of-war were the worst for that. But, they were fun games. We went to the fishing one where we had to aim to get coins, money bags, and chests. I managed to get 30 coins which was a record for me since I'm really bad at that game. Once you figure out when to cast, however, it becomes fairly easy. In an earlier game, one of my roommates grew angry because I knocked her off the ledge in bobsledding. I thought it was funny of course. But, I eventually paid for it in this game. I was bobsledding against another roommate and I flew through the air at one point and I think I hit her bobsled which made me fall off. But, I was actually winning for once so I didn't care much. In the end, I managed to get the most coins and win an extra star for that. For the first time, I won. I was happy. But, that probably won't happen again. I think it was a one time deal. I like this game because it's a fun multiplayer game. It's fun to yell at the computers and gang up on them. I thought the levels were designed nicely as well. The cake one made me hungry though. But, it was a lovely cake. (This entry has been edited1 time. But, that's what we had in the N64 days, right? I wish the game maybe had some more characters and levels. Plus, some of the characters I just think are dumb. No offense Ness and Jiggly Puff. How is Jiggly Puff a hidden character? I wish they had characters like Wario because he makes me mad in Mario Party and I just want to get revenge on him in Super Smash Brothers. I guess I can't complain too much about adding more levels and characters since they did that in Super Smash Brothers Melee. This was a first attempt in a great series and it was successful. The levels are great and unique. But, I do hate the Pokemon level because I tend to accidentally fall down the whole. I love Hyrule Castle though. It's definitely the one I do best in. I don't have to worry about accidentally falling down the whole there. I played one player mode for a bit too because Captain Falcon wasn't unlocked yet. So, I looked online to see how to get him. I had to beat one player mode in twenty minutes. It's pretty easy when you have Yoshi to just butt slam all the other Yoshis and the Kirbys and the Polygon team. One player mode is really not as fun because I think the point of playing Super Smash Brothers is playing with other people, but maybe that's just me. When no one is around, it's a an okay alternative. As I was playing, I really noticed the music. I like most of the music. Dreamland has a nice catchy song to fight to. And Hyrule has the classic Zelda song which is a nice touch in my opinion. Since this is the first in the series, I can't really say they should improve anything since they'll do it with future installments. Melee was definitely improved and Brawl should be too. We'll see how playing Super Smash Brothers is using the Wii remote.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 04:20:00 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=672&iddiary=1728Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 02:28:04https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=672 Well, this past week, I've been playing the Nintendo 64 with my roommates. One game we've been playing is the original Super Smash Brothers. When there's only me and one other person playing we do a team battle and always play against Fox and Luigi. They're our arch rivals. In my opinion, the gameplay is awesome. It's so much fun. I can play for hours. In fact, over the weekend, one of my roommates and I were up until 9 A.M. and most of the time was spent playing this and Mario party. That's how addicted we are. I used to play as Kirby all the time since he was good for beginners. Now, I've tried out Link, Samus, and Yoshi and discovered that Yoshi is the love of my life. I'm just kidding. But, he rocks. I love butt slamming people and headbutting them. The past hour, I've been Yoshi. My roommate took a break, so I played by myself. I played against Fox, Luigi, and Link. I'm kind of scared of Samus which is why I never play her. Anyway, I put them all on level nine to see how well I could fare against them. I ended up doing really well. I came in first with a score of 14. I was shocked. But, I admit, some of those kills were from the very cheap weapon: the hammer. But still, for me, that's pretty good. First, I’m trying to get two of my characters up to level 40. They’re at level 33 right now. Second, I’m trying to get three rings that I believe are going to be valuable later. So, I ended up fighting some enemies to get their items. I’m close to getting the Cat’s Ring. I just need one more item which happens to be cat poop. I don’t know how that makes a ring but oh well. So, I spent about an hour fighting some of the earliest enemies in the game. It was kind of boring since they only took one hit to die, but at least it made the battles faster. I managed to level up one of my characters in the process too. So, all I need is a little more time and I should have the Cat’s Ring as well as the Dog’s Ring and Bird’s Ring. Then, it’s back to the story.Fri, 12 Jan 2007 00:59:19 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=470&iddiary=1276Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria (PS2) - Thu, 11 Jan 2007 19:24:02https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=470I'm not positive when exactly I started this game, but I've been playing it for a while due to the fact that I'm a little busy with college right now. I'm about thirty hours into the game, but a lot of hours were spent leveling up. To be honest, the game can be quite difficult. There are many enemies to fight and generally, they are not pushovers. They do hit hard. So, I decided to level up for a while to make the game a little easier. I haven't died since I've done that which is good. And I'm not the greatest when videogame player by the way. I am now in a place called Dragonscrypt which is in Chapter 3 of the game. I believe there are six chapters total. Anyway, before arriving at Dragonscrypt, I had to go to a dungeon called Crawsus Forest Ruins. It was a fairly short dungeon, but it required me to figure out a puzzle in order to fight the almighty Hydra, who was in fact the boss of the dungeon. In each dungeon, there are objects called sealstones that can give you bonuses such as an experience bonus or an attack up 120% bonus. You can either hold onto the sealstones to make them effect your party or you can place them in a Dais in order to have the sealstone effect the enemies. This particular dungeon had me place specific types of sealstones in the daises to advance. The three types are positive, neutral, and negative effects. Once I figured out which sealstones to place in which dais, the water in the area became poisoned. Poison is very dangerous in the game because it hurts you outside of battle as well. So, I ended up poisoning my party a lot because I had no poison checks which prevent poison. Thus, I wasted a lot of items to heal my party. When I ran out of items, I had to rely on using the "Normalize" spell to cure my party members. By the way, the party consists of four members, so that's four people to cure. Plus, I had to constantly heal them because as you know, poison hurts them even outside battle like I said earlier. I managed to survive nonetheless. Luckily, the sealstones I placed earlier also made the enemies much easier. Before I went to the boss, there was one more area to explore. This is where I found an Einherjar relic. When you find a relic, you can choose the materialize option to have an Einherjar join you. Einherjar are basically just characters who lived in the past, but you can materialize them so that they help you fight battles. You can release them after they gain five levels. By doing this, you can get various items. With that said, I found the Einherjar Adonis who is a heavy warrior. I haven't used him yet, but he should be helpful. Earlier in the dungeon, I found an Einherjar named Fraudir who is a light fighter. She should come in handy too. After this, I went right to Hydra. With the sealstones properly placed, he went down pretty easily. He didn't do too much damage either which was good since he inflicted frailty on my party which prevented me from healing. After defeating Hydra, I received some nice items. And that was the end of the dungeon. It was an interesting dungeon, but in my opinion, all the dungeons are pretty similar even though they look different. Luckily the battle system is fun so battles aren't to annoying. Well, I think I'll leave at that for now. I wonder if any of you actually made it this far.Thu, 11 Jan 2007 19:24:02 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=470&iddiary=1205
