I decided to use my Chaos deck and he used his Equip deck. My roommate was the victor of this session. Again, I fell prey to one of his powerful synchro monsters. The most powerful monster in his Equip deck is the synchro monster named Power Tool Dragon. Power Tool Dragon is has a powerful effect. Once per turn, it's owner can picks 3 equip cards from his or her deck and their opponent randomly selects one and he or she can add it their hand. Another part of the effect is that if Power Tool Dragon were to be destroyed by battle, an equip card that is equipped to it is destroyed instead. By the way, equip cards boost the attack and/or defense stat of the monster it's equipped to. However, there are some that have other special effects. I did manage to pull off one round because I manage to destroy Power Tools Dragon with my Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning. It's a chaos most with 3000 ATK and a deadly ability. It has 2 effects actually. It can either remove a monster on the field from play or attack 2 times if it destroys an opponent's monster with the first attack. This was a good match as well. We plan to do a tie breaker match.Wed, 28 Mar 2012 23:24:41 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4941&iddiary=9158Yu-Gi-Oh (Other) - Wed, 28 Mar 2012 23:14:57https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4941So, the non-electronic game I chose to play is Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. It is loosely based on the Japanese manga "Yu-Gi-Oh!" (lit. "King of Games), which was created by Kazuki Takahasi. The main objective of the game is to deplete your opponent's life points to zero by causing damage to them by using either monster attacks and effects or through the use of magic and trap card effects. Typically, each player starts out with 8000 life points but sometimes 4000 life points are used. It's the best 2 of 3 rounds to determine the winner of a match. You must have a minimum of 40 cards to have a deck but no more than 60. Normal monster cards each have an Attack and Defense attribute as well as a brief description of the creature in the picture. Effect monster cards also have an Attack and Defense attribute on them but no description of the monster in the picture though. Instead, the spot on the card is used to describe the effect of the effect monster. Normal monster cards are a light yellow while effect monster cards are a light brown. Other monster card types include Ritual, Fusion, and Synchro. There are also Magic (also called Spell) and Trap cards. Magic cards are green and they can only be activated during your turn. Trap cards are a light purple and can be activated during either player's turn after they have been set for one turn in the Magic/Trap card zone. Many magic and trap cards have specific conditions for activating them. All these various tools are used to reduce your opponent's life points to zero. I'm a big fan of this game and have been playing for years. I like how strategic and fun it is. I also like the freedom you have for creating decks. You have many options for combinations in a deck. My roommate is also a fan and owns multiple decks so we decided to duel 2 matches for this analysis. SESSION #1 So, the conclusion of this session was that I won 2 rounds and he won 1, therefore making me the victor of the match. The first round I was pretty lucky. I used my Toon/Warrior Monster Deck and he used his Legendary Ice Barrier deck. I was pretty lucky the first round and it was an easy victory. I had a nice hand and manage to get massive damage to his life points quickly with my warrior monsters and one of my toon monsters. He caused damage to my life points only once by destroying one of my weaker monsters. The first round went by quickly. I lost the second round. He managed to get a very powerful Synchro monster out on the field that has a powerful effect named Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. It's able to destroy any card on the field once per turn based on the number of cards the user discards to the graveyard. In my opinion, it's a pretty cheap effect. Things went down hill for me when he summoned that monster. It also has a massive Attack of 2500 so I didn't have anything to destroy it right away. So, that round ended miserably for me. I won the last round. It was very close though. We were both low on life points so it was anyone's game. I got lucky because his hand was small and apparently he wasn't drawing the cards he needed. He managed to get that powerful synchro monster out on the field again but I managed to destroy it by attacking it with a monster I powered up with an equip card which made it 2600 attack; 100 more than that monster. Overall, it was a good match that wasn't completely one-sided.Wed, 28 Mar 2012 23:14:57 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4941&iddiary=9156Elder Scrolls 5 : Skyrim (PS3) - Wed, 07 Mar 2012 20:14:21https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4921Session #2 For this session of Skyrim, I ventured with my companion to a tower occupied by a tribe of people known as the Forsworn. My companion and I fought through these enemies as we climb the tower. I used my bow and arrows and she used magic and elemental attacks such as ice, fire, and lightning attacks since she is a mage. Overall, the difficulty of these battles was easy. It took at most only 3 arrows to defeat a Forsworn. After making it to the top of the tower, I was surprised to find no special loot, which is usually the prize. I found only one chest and it had only a few gold pieces in it. Usually, the harder the enemies, the better the loot their guarding so this could have played a role. After leaving the tower and venturing back out into the wild, we randomly encountered another Blood Dragon. I've noticed that after a long session of not playing Skyrim, the frequency of dragon encounters increases after resuming; I guess to make up for lost time. This session wasn't as interesting as the last but at least I claimed another dragon soul as a prize.Wed, 07 Mar 2012 20:14:21 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4921&iddiary=9124Elder Scrolls 5 : Skyrim (PS3) - Wed, 07 Mar 2012 19:14:14https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4921Session #1 Skyrim is the fifth installment of the open-world rpg series known as The Elder Scrolls, which is developed by Bethesda Game Studios. I have owned this game since Nov. 12. 2011, the day after its launch day. First off, my overall opinion of this game is that it's amazing! Players have complete freedom and that's a beautiful thing to me. You can the story line, main quests, or miscellaneous quests. You can also just do random exploration and dungeon crawling to obtain new gear, money, or experience. The character customization is great and you can develop your character in any way you wish by focusing on raising certain skills in the game. Skills levels are raised based on how much the particular skill is used. For instance, my character is sort of a Sniper Thief. I decided to focus on skills such as Sneak, Archery, and Lock picking. I prefer to fight long range with this character of course. Another key element of the story is that you are Dragonborn, which mean you can speak the language of dragons and can absorb their souls after you defeat them. Throughout the game, you acquire Shouts with are dragonic roars that have various magical abilities. Words are strengthened and unlocked using dragon souls you have obtained. Prior to today, I hadn't played it in a while due to playing fighting games or just being too busy with school work but I thought I choose it to do an analysis. Today, in my first session, I picked back up where I left off with my companion npc after a main quest. I then decided to explore a blank area of the game map in hopes of finding a new location to explore. On my travel, I encountered a big fight. My companion and I were attacked by 3 sabre cats, a bear, and a Blood Dragon(stronger than normal dragons). It was crazy. The dragon was not only attacking my companion and I but it would target the wildlife as well. The wildlife would also change targets from time to time. After the battle with the dragon, I absorbed its soul. My companion and I then ventured a little further into the wild and another dragon appears. This was a normal less powerful dragon but I was surprised these dragons appeared so close to each other nonetheless. Defeating this dragon ended my first session.Wed, 07 Mar 2012 19:14:14 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4921&iddiary=9123Soul Calibur 5 (PS3) - Mon, 06 Feb 2012 14:53:02https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=4885Session#2 I've had Soul Calibur 5 for 6 days so far and have put a good amount of time into learning my main character Tira, whom I used in my Soul Calibur 4 days. There are many new characters in the game and new moves have been given to old moves. Also, new powerful moves called Edge Attacks have been introduced in this one. To use Edge Attacks, a bar of a meter is depleted. You get up to 2 bars in the meter and when its depleted, it can be refilled by landing attacks and when you're being attacked. However, it refills faster when landing attacks. The most powerful attack that utilizes the edge meter is a Critical Edge attack which triggers a cinematic display of the attack. Speaking of powerful attacks, there are unblockable moves, which have been in previous Soul Caliburs. They're not easy to land because they require a charge up animation which leaves the character vulnerable. However, if the move lands, its sure to cause massive damage. Today(Feb. 6, 2012), I had a nice session of Soul Calibur 5 with my roommate. He used Yoshimitsu initially for a couple of rounds and I used Tira. For the most part, we were about on similar skill levels but I had a few more wins than he did. What we discussed was the similarity in the difficult of use for each of characters. They are both hard to use characters and both character actually cause damage to themselves. I found it to be interesting how balanced the fight was because of these similarities. After a couple of matches, he switched to other characters and I felt a nice balance in the following matches. I used Tira for all of them. He did switch to a character that had a higher rating in the “ease of use” category and I noticed only a slight shift in the pressure I was receiving. I'm beginning to learn how to deal with the more popular characters since I've been exposed to them so much. Less used character's can cause surprises during matches so one has to be able to adapt quickly and look for patterns in the character's play style.
