jwhite16's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1595Skyrim (360) - Tue, 04 Dec 2012 09:50:29https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5408Skyrim is an amazing adventure role playing game that continues to inspire me to keep playing it. The first time I played the game I chose to be an Argonian, a lizard like creature that is able to breathe underwater and has unique healing abilities. Skyrim lets the player choose what they want to do, what weapons they want to have, whether the person wants to be a male or female, and the abilities can be chosen by them too. I love that Bethesda made a very unique and expansive game because it has so much replay-ability and continues to be exciting throughout the game. The dragons are made very well and I love how they made each dragon unique. There are different dragon types that the player has to deal with: 1) blood dragons, 2) frost dragons, 3) ancient dragons, 4) elder dragons, and more. Skyrim has done an amazing job with quests and missions as well. The player is not told to do the main missions of Skyrim, in fact I have played the game for a while without completing the main quest, just because there were so many other missions that I was doing. There are many side quests that people can join in Skyrim. They can join fighting groups like the companion’s guild, the dark brotherhood, the thieves’ guild, and in the new downloadable content they can join the vampires. Each one of these groups have their own side missions that they have their own rewards that follow when completing their missions. I like how they made the inventory organized in the game and that when the player is holding too much it slows down the character, much like in real life. The way they categorize each item, how the player is able to add items to their favorite list, and how they sort their magic and shout abilities is also done very well. This game is amazing when it comes to combat. Skyrim has added many features in battle such as critical hits, parrying, and slow motion attacks. This includes archery, magic, two handed weapons, heavy weapons, and light weapons. With all of these unique features in the game, Skyrim always has more room to grow. There are constantly new DLCs for this game and it continues to be better as they add more to it.Tue, 04 Dec 2012 09:50:29 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5408&iddiary=9697Halo 4 (360) - Tue, 27 Nov 2012 13:10:01https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5382Halo 4 is a very phenomenal game. The design is done well, the campaign is amazing, there are new weapons introduced, the new enemies, everything about it leaves me awestruck. I really enjoy playing this game, so much so that I bought the collector’s edition of it. Even though Bungie no longer develops the game, I am proud of the fact that 343 has taken over and added their own design elements to this franchise that sets it apart from the previous games. The other features I’ve noticed about the game is the enhanced audio, visual, and physics of the game. The music is completely different from the previous games because 343 didn’t go with Martin O’Donnel’s music soundtrack and instead used a completely new one, which works extremely well considering it’s a whole new series made by a new company. The physics have definitely been changed also because now they added more mechanics to gravity, jumping, running, and shooting. Guns have more recoil, the jungles have more sounds of water falls, animal noises, and things of that sort. The multiplayer is where the developers really did well with the game. They made so many different game types and modes, that they leave the player to never get bored. The player can play big team slayer, team slayer, free for all, capture the flag, flood, griffball, swat, snipers, Spartan ops, and more. Every week, there are new challenges and game types for players to enjoy and this helps keep up the excitement. Even though 343 got rid of firefight, I feel that Spartan ops did a great job replacing that by giving players more of a campaign experience. I also like how players are able to customize their armor in this game, because in previous games it was difficult to tell how to unlock certain armors, but now the menu tells the player exactly what they need to do to unlock it. By making the menu easier to navigate and understand, 343 made sure that players would be able to learn effectively how to upgrade their armor and customize their character. Lastly, I really love the fact that 343 made it so that players don’t have to choose running as an ability for Spartans. I was extremely happy that now my character can run when I need them to and I can also have the ability to cloak, get an auto turret, shield, or whatever other ability I need. That being said, I love the way 343 made this game and I am proud to have bought the collector’s edition because it was worth it.Tue, 27 Nov 2012 13:10:01 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5382&iddiary=9678Halo 2 (XBX) - Sun, 18 Nov 2012 13:34:42https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5352One of the first FPS's (first person shooters) I have ever played and got addicted to was Halo 2 for the Xbox. This game made game of the year for me because it was very interactive, made beautifully, designed well, and introduced more new concepts than the first Halo game. All of the Halo games that were done were good, but I like this one the best because it had the best campaign, multi-player, and levels out of all the games. Halo 2 was the first time that players could either be an elite or a spartan in multiplayer. The campaign was great because the characters learned what happened to the covenant's best elite and it engages the player in a separate story with him, as well as master chief. The game comes with four different level modes: easy, normal, heroic, and legendary. I have played the game on the legendary difficulty and it is very difficult to beat. The player learns quickly how to fire the weapon, aim, and hold dual weapons of plasma rifle, pistol, needler, etc. because this allows the player to spray many enemies at once with double the ammo, or learn to cooperate with two separate weapons that becomes a deadly force. I enjoy the levels in Halo 2 more than the other games because they were unique and intricate. My favorite stages by far are foundation, zanzibar, and blood gulch because they are simple stages with many hiding spots, cover locations, and vehicles. These stages also have a set battleground because they force the players to fight with each other in the middle of the map because its where the best weapons are located. Halo 2 also introduced the design of characters and their armor. Players were able to design it based on what logo they like, put in different colors, and add different shades of that color. The other thing I like about this game is that they got rid of the health packs from the first game and the shield regeneration was quicker. Not having to worry about getting a health pack allowed the player to focus more on combat and surviving by dodging bullets and staying in cover. I would recommend everyone to play this game if they haven't yet and I hope that Microsoft will redo this amazing game like they did for the first anniversary edition of Halo.Sun, 18 Nov 2012 13:34:42 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5352&iddiary=9638Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP) - Sun, 11 Nov 2012 16:32:19https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5339The game I am currently playing on the play station portable go is monster hunter freedom unite. It is the sequel to the Monster Hunter Freedom 1 and 2 franchises and has been enhanced tremendously since the previous games. This game has over 400 missions which the character can play, 500 plus hours of gameplay, new armor, weapons, and monsters to defeat. They enhanced the camera view in this game by making it auto adjust slightly without the player having to click the left trigger and Capcom did well in introducing more environments to the game and keeping the old environments too. They kept the desert, forest, volcano, fortress, and castle levels, but added the Snowy Mountain, new desert, new volcano, arena, and inner castle levels. For the armor and weapons, they added a new feature called armor stones and decorations or gems which power up the equipment and add unique skills that help the player. The character is allowed to upgrade their armor using the armor stones and depending on the armor stones and rarity of the equipment, they can add over 20 levels to each armor piece. For the decorations, players are allowed to add a maximum 3 gem pieces to each weapon or armor, although some will only accept 1, 2, or none. In the tutorial, players learn how to utilize the sword and shield, great sword, katana, hammer, horn, bow gun, bow, lance, and gun lance. These weapons are used in the game and players can choose to handle one of these weapon types, or all depending on which they prefer. The weapons have elemental damage abilities which also help the game by making it easier to defeat the monsters. These are fire, water, ice, thunder, dragon, poison, paralysis, and sleep elemental skills. There are also new traps and bombs that the player can use to help capture the monster or slow it down. These are the lightning rod, pitfall trap, shock trap, bounce bomb, large barrel bomb, small barrel bomb, and tranquilizer bomb. All of these things that Capcom has added to this game has made it even more exciting, playable and fun because it lets the player control even more of the way they can become the greatest hunter in MHFU. Sun, 11 Nov 2012 16:32:19 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5339&iddiary=9625Assassin's Creed Revelations (360) - Sun, 04 Nov 2012 15:19:43https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5313Assassin's Creed Revelations is an amazing third person action adventure role playing game and Ubisoft's fourth entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise. This game has really been updated since its previous two sequels because the graphics have improved, the levels are much more expansive, and the fighting style has improved. Some of the new features which helped the game are the hooked blade, which is a piece of equipment that allows Ezio to travel up walls quicker, the parachute, which was improved significantly since the previous games, the craft bombs, which can be used to avoid detection or run away, and more. The story involves concluding both Altair’s and Ezio’s story as well as helping Desmond get his mind back together. Even though the game doesn’t really focus much on Desmond, Ubisoft did well in concluding the other two assassin’s stories and the narrative was written decently. During the fighting scenes, Assassin’s Creed Revelations did a much better job by improving the slow motion animations and improving the character’s looks as they execute each maneuver. The developers also added a tower defense mini game in the series called Den Defense which occurs whenever the Templar’s awareness of Ezio is too high. This type of gameplay had many issues because there were bad camera angles, it was confusing to work, trying to maneuver people in the right positions was difficult, and it was just an annoying gameplay. Players would generally avoid this gameplay at all cost because it was too difficult and confusing to operate. Uncovering Desmond’s past was another type of gameplay that Ubisoft added. This had the person travel through different puzzles and mazes which were unique but frustrating too. All of these add-ons did expand the game tremendously by building on the narrative and solving dilemmas that were encountered in the previous game. Ubisoft does a great job by having the player interact with the history and architecture of the place Ezio is currently visiting in the game. This game is very unique by having that quality of learning about history while playing a video game. Assassin’s Creed Revelations did a good job enhancing the character, building up the narrative, and concluding the stories of both Ezio and Altair, but adding the tower defense and mazes was a little unnecessary.Sun, 04 Nov 2012 15:19:43 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5313&iddiary=9600Metroid Fusion (GBA) - Sun, 28 Oct 2012 12:33:36https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5294Metroid Fusion is an interesting action adventure game that follows after Super Metroid. The graphics in the game are very detailed and the gameplay is a third person shooter. The backgrounds have evolved tremendously since its previous games and players feel less claustrophobic in this game than the previous. Samus, the main character of the game, has a different look too. Her suit is now an organic blue color and its interesting because it changed due to the fact that an X-parasite has been infected to her and bonded with her. The X-parasites are these little plasma creatures that bond with other organic beings and enhance them by making them stronger, larger, and increasingly violent. Samus is able to bond with any of these parasites and by absorbing them she gains health, weapon ammo, and energy. During the game, Samus is able to pick up new weapons and abilities such as a missile upgrade, energy beam, freeze beam, space jump, and morph ball ability which allows her to travel anywhere in the game. The developers made it so that the player is told step by step where to go in the mission and they are given a map that shows the locations of the next objectives. This way, a player can literally beat the game in three to four hours if they want to, although this would not give them much time to collect the many items in the game. There are many secrets in the game that include extra health energy packs, more missiles and weapon enhancers that the player won’t be able to get if they rush trying to beat the game. The game also has security doors which control the areas where the player is allowed to go and where they are not allowed. When the player begins to level up their character, more security doors open up. Eventually the player won’t be restricted to any area in the game. The mechanics of the game are fairly simple to understand because they have the ability to jump, double jump, grab walls, shoot, and fire diagonally. Understanding these basic mechanics is what the developers do in the beginning so that the player can go through the game without trouble.Sun, 28 Oct 2012 12:33:36 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5294&iddiary=9580BioShock 2 (360) - Sun, 21 Oct 2012 13:00:17https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5277Bioshock 2 is an amazing role playing game that is unlike most single player role playing games. The player is a powerhouse behemoth known as a Big Daddy and the big daddy is capable of holding a machine gun, firing auto turrets, throwing spears, and using plasmids, which are the elemental powers that the player can use through harvesting adam. In this game, the developer 2K Games lets the player choose whether he wants to save the little sisters or harvest them to gain more power. When the player chooses to save the little sisters, they get less adam or power than they would by harvesting them. The adam is used to increase the player’s plasmid abilities by making them stronger, having the duration last longer, and being capable of using it more than once. The controls are a little bit difficult to get used to at first because the player has to get accustomed to being able to swing at things with the Big Daddy’s drill, jump at certain objects, reload, and fire with either the left hand (for plasmids) or right hand (for weapons). The graphics of the game are unique in that the colors are very vivid, the environment is solid, and even the physics are generally good when using the telekinesis (able to pick up objects without touching them) plasmid. The antagonists of the game are an enemy known as splicers, which are mutants that are enhanced with various capabilities, other big daddies, big sisters, and security bots. When the enemy gets low on health, they try to restore them with the medical stations, which is a unique gameplay element. After playing the game once, it becomes predictable to beat though because the developer’s felt that they have to give the players a lot of help with weapons and power ups. Overall this video game is excellent and one of the most fun and has a significant amount of replay ability.Sun, 21 Oct 2012 13:00:17 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5277&iddiary=9560Dissidia: Final Fantasy (PSP) - Sun, 14 Oct 2012 15:00:55https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5249Final Fantasy Dissidia is a unique action, role playing game which uses difficult fighting mechanics. The story is very interesting because the game makes it so that players have to go through five chapters with each of the protagonists from the original Final Fantasy games. They are ten main characters that the game lets the player start out with and these are the protagonists of the game. There are also an additional ten characters that the game lets the player unlock by beating the story mode for the game. The graphics in the game are amazing because they maximize the use of the PSP’s graphic capabilities and prevent it from lagging. The game has an arcade mode, story mode, and a training mode in which the player can build up their character’s stats, attributes, and equipment before the fight even begins. This is advantageous for the player because it allows them to increase their bravery (hit points), armor, have stronger weapons, and give them bonus attributes. The character has two types of attacks in the game which are assist attacks and HP damage attacks. Each battle begins with the player’s character and the enemy AI having a set amount of bravery points (or hit points). As the player damages with the assist attacks, those points add on to the player’s own bravery points until the player’s bravery points are at zero. This will put the enemy in break, which means they cannot affect the player’s own bravery points. The only problem with this mechanic is that it can be exploited by either the AI or the player. The HP damage attacks will deal the actual attacks to the opponent and defeat them. There is a blue item that sometimes floats in the game and the player can acquire it by running into it, unlocking EX mode. In this mode when players use HP damage attacks, it does a series of combination attacks that allows the player to perform a specific sequence and deal a ton of damage. These attack mechanics of the game really work well in Dissidia and players enjoy the game even further because of it.Sun, 14 Oct 2012 15:00:55 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5249&iddiary=9528Super Smash Brothers Brawl (Wii) - Mon, 08 Oct 2012 19:55:04https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5237Super Smash Brothers Brawl is a fighting game that is unlike any other. I like how the developers introduce knocking players off the screen, adding more power ups, special abilities, and movable stages. This game would be classified as an action, adventure game because the story mode has a clear distinction between good and evil. The characters in this game include the same ones as its predecessors, but also adds many new ones such as Snake, Wolf, Ganandorf, and more. Players have the ability to stick with the Nintendo Game Cube controller or use the Wii remote. When using the remote, players have to tilt it horizontally to make it work. I don't prefer using the Wii remote because the controls are much more difficult to control, especially since the Nintendo Game Cube controller came out first. Brawl introduces different types of attacks called "Final Smash" moves which players can get by destroying a glowing orb that hovers in the stage. Characters can use items ranging from projectiles to melee weapons; each has a different effect on the characters around it. Although many items have returned from previous Super Smash Bros. games, new ones have been introduced as well. I like how Nintendo still kept the various game modes in Smash Brawl which are Classic mode, All-Star mode, and Boss Battle. These matches include unique battle conditions such as two vs. two, metal opponent, and large opponent. The other mode that I like is the new adventure mode titled "Subspace Emissary." This mode is unique because it develops the characters much more and allows players to not only play more, but learn how each character develops and what their relationships are to each other. I would recommend that the people who play this game play it to enjoy it with friends at parties and also because it was a really well made fighting game. There aren't too many fighting games that are well known and Nintendo is one of the few companies that made fighting games playable and likable for all ages.Mon, 08 Oct 2012 19:55:04 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5237&iddiary=9510Pokemon: Fire Red (GBA) - Sun, 30 Sep 2012 16:07:11https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=5201Of all the pokemon games out there, Pokemon: Fire Red is the most amazing one in my personal opinion. This game is a remake of the very first game I ever played in my life, Pokemon: Red version, and I like the game very much because it can be replayed again and again, it is exciting, and its a very original concept. The game's genre is action-adventure, puzzle, and strategy. The beginning has a small narration in which the game tells you the basic instructions, what your name is, what your rival's name is, and what the creatures are called. The basic idea of the game is that the player starts off with no pokemon and has to choose their starting pokemon: a water type, grass type, or fire type. There are two main goals in every pokemon game. The first goal is to have the player raise their pokemon up to a high enough level in order to defeat the pokemon league and become the pokemon champion. The second goal is to catch every pokemon in the game in order to fulfill the pokedex. Game Freak, the company which created the pokemon games, makes this goal difficult to achieve because the player has to trade with friends and use different evolution stones to make their pokemon evolve. Evolution occurs when the player's pokemon reaches a certain level, a stone is given to them, or they are traded to another game version. As for the gameplay, there are seventeen different types, each with their own elemental strengths and weaknesses. Each pokemon is allowed to use four attacks. These attacks can either cause damage, lower stats, confuse their target, put them to sleep, paralyze, or poison them. The gameplay itself has not changed very much since the original. The graphics for the attack animations are still simple and the pokemon's images move when they appear. The player still throws a pokeball at the target pokemon and the ball wiggles three times before it says the pokemon has been captured. The sound effects are also still the same for each pokemon, it only changes a little bit when they introduce a new pokemon. The music quality is great and Game Freak keeps adding new tunes that are extremely catchy. Overall, this game is worth playing because it is a remake of a fantastic classic that keeps adding newer games.
