litobritelite's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=171Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 18:08:48https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1439So far, I have defeated only three monsters and looking down the long hall of statues that I need to defeat doesn't make me feel so good. Well, I guess that's what makes this game lengthy. Each boss has a couple of weak points, represented as symbols, in their body, which can only be seen by raising your sword in the sunlight over his body. Then, I have to find a way to get to that specific body part by climbing onto them. It's really hard to grab onto them since they are so large and always moving around. When I finally reach one weak point, I try to stab into it as much and as quickly as possible until the symbol disappears. So each boss battle is kind of repetitive, because you're basically doing the same thing. Only the situation of the battles are different. Like, when there's no sunlight, you won't be able to find the monster's weak point. So you would want the monster to break down the building so sunlight can pour in. Like I said before, there's still not much dialogue other than the creepy voice that I don't understand. I don't even remember if there was much music in the game. Maybe there was some quiet background music, but I think that was it. I don't think I'll finish this game; it's not very appealing to me. The only one talking is the omniscient voice speaking to the hero, and he's not even speaking in English. He creeps me out so much. Anyway, basically, the hero wants to revive a special person and he must follow the voice's instructions to do that. After muting the volume and just reading the subtitles, I'm off to my first adventure. I get on my pretty horse and ride away onto a vast empty land. The scenery looks pretty realistic, which is quite awesome. This game surprised me because I didn't have to fight any enemies during the whole time I was trying to look for what I'm supposed to do. I didn't need to level up or anything, which makes this game so unique. To find my objective, I raise my sword and use the sunlight to guide me. After reaching my destination and seeing what I was going against, I felt a little bit intimidated. I was sure I would be beaten down very quickly, but I did beat the first boss and I feel good. To beat the game, use the mind over strength. The game's outlook is quite bland. Not much vivid colors and everything is just somewhat gloomy. I'm sure that's how the creators of the game wanted since the storyline is quite gloomy. However, I'm not very pleased. The graphics aren't very appealing to me. It's simplistic 3D. There are some cool detailed designs though. Well I'm off to try to figure out how to beat another boss.Fri, 23 Feb 2007 16:24:26 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1439&iddiary=3038Wii Sports (Wii) - Fri, 09 Feb 2007 18:42:20https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1228Tennis and baseball is quite straight forward with their controls. Just swing the remote as if it was a tennis racket or baseball bat. Pitching in Wii baseball is awesome for there are different buttons for different ball movements. There are four types of ball movements: screwball, curve ball, splitter, and fast ball. Baseball in Wii isn't as complicated in real life or any other baseball video games because there are individual computer characters in the game to help catch the balls flying in the field. So, there wouldn't be any stress over trying to make your character run after the ball and throw it to the plates. In Wii bowling, the movement of the ball is based on the movement of the controller. If the remote is curved even just a little while you release the buttons for throwing the ball, the ball will roll down the lane and curve to towards the direction the remote was turned. I think controlling the ball in the game is very realistic because it's difficult to throw a real bowling ball straight down the lane and knock down all the pins. I haven't done much Wii boxing, so I can't really elaborate on that. All I could say is that it's difficult for me to learn how to control my movements. My least favorite Wii sport would be golf because I don't really have much control on my swing. I would be swinging my remote, but I wouldn't be able to hit the ball (I'm pressing 'A' also). It's also hard for me to determine how hard my swing would be. The game might be better if the swing-strength bar is visible the whole time instead of after you have swung club. Overall, Wii Sports is a really fun game to play. However everything is very simple graphics wise. Smooth 3D, but nothing to be 'wow' about. All I really want is to smell the fresh green grass in the field or feel a nice breeze pass by now and then. Maybe video games will become a virtual reality in the future like we all have been anxiously dreaming about. But for now, I could just resort to playing Wii Sports outside.Fri, 09 Feb 2007 18:42:20 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1228&iddiary=2705Wii Sports (Wii) - Fri, 09 Feb 2007 08:22:06https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1228Well, I finally got a Wii with my free game of Wii Sports. Wii Sports is a great game especially played with the unique Wii remote and nunchuck. This game is intended for all audiences. The disk contains a collection of tennis, baseball, bowling, golf, and boxing games. I've played through all of them, but my favorites are tennis, bowling, and baseball. What makes this game so realistic and fun are the remote and nunchuck; without them, I wouldn't be sweating and taking breaks. My arms get sore after a while from my lack of exercise or stretching. Whichever the case, it means that I'm not as fit as I should be. At least, I don't have to run after the ball, or I'd die from exhaustion. The controls are simple to learn since they are supposed to imitate the movements of sports. However, there are some limited aspects of the game. Most of the games consists of swinging movements. In baseball, the game only consists of batting and pitching. These aren't really negative aspects because the overall game is still exciting and fun. Some people might even substitute outdoor sports play for Wii sports. What's super annoying though is the high volume of the remote. There is no way to turn the sound down! It's difficult to play in the middle of the night when someone is sleeping in the same room. Anyway, back to playing the game.Fri, 09 Feb 2007 08:22:06 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1228&iddiary=2613Katamari Damacy (PS2) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 17:47:38https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1024After playing this for a while, I seem to be getting the hang of the rolling. However, it's really annoying when my katamari is huge, I have a hard time rolling in between tight spaces. Other than that, this game is strangely addicting. The simplicity of just rolling up junk is quite fun. The challenge of rolling the katamari to a specific size and beating the clock makes it even more intriguing. Sometimes there are specific constellations that need specific items for it to be a star, like rolling up as much crabs for the constellation Cancer. The cutscenes are based on a family that looks like block-shape toys, but I think all humans in the game are designed in a block-like fashion. The family just talks about how the stars are gone from the sky. I don't think it really matters if there are any cutscenes in the game because they are just as eccentric as the whole game and creeps you out even more. Well if the game is so creepy, how is this game so attractive? I think the colorful scheme, the toy-like design, and especially the gameplay makes this game so addicting. Oh, and there are little presents for the Prince if you roll up a specific item on Earth. Yay for presents!Wed, 31 Jan 2007 17:47:38 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1024&iddiary=2340Katamari Damacy (PS2) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 04:59:48https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1024I wasn't very eager to play this game when I first borrowed this from the library because this game seems a bit too strange for me to be excited about it. So as I watch the introduction, all I can think of was how colorful and random it was. The King of All Cosmos is the weirdest character of all. He kind of reminds me of the King of Burger King (which isn't a compliment). Anyway, the King of All Cosmos weirds me out. He speaks in a distasteful poem-like way. Well, the game isn't all about him anyway. So let's talk about the other parts of the game. The story/plot is a bit dumb to me. The fruity King of All Cosmos happens to just break all the stars in the sky. So, I, the Prince, must roll my ball of katamari so I can create new stars again. Basically, I roll up junk from Earth and send it up to space. The gameplay is kind of awkward, but new, which is kind of a plus. One thing that was really annoying to me was the view as I was rolling the katamari. I don't know how to adjust it so that I can see where I'm going, like when I move right, I'll be facing in that direction instead of just moving right and not looking towards that direction. So as you all can tell, I've been having a bit of trouble controlling my rolling ability, which leads to bumping into things a lot. :[ Well this game is quite challenging having to roll the katamari to a specific size and roll it to that that size before the time runs out. There are also objects that can run into you and break off some of the items you collected; therefore, reducing the size of the katamari. Anyway, I have to get back to the game. So I'll be posting another entry real soon. Wed, 31 Jan 2007 04:59:48 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1024&iddiary=2194Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 02:11:38https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=701... continued from previous post. I don't think the coin system really matters. It's just great to know that you'll gain a life after gathering up a hundred coins. However, if you can beat the game with five lives or less, who really cares about getting every single coin, right? Well, I apparently do though. Anyway, Mario is a addictively classic game because of its awesome puzzles and traps that rely both on brain and reflexes. It has simple, but varied designs and also various enemies with their own special behavior patterns and abilities. People may not play this game as much anymore or even play this game, but we all know that this game was the best and it's still fun to play now.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 02:11:38 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=701&iddiary=1698Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 02:11:15https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=701So after playing this game again for another hour or so, I'm doing a lot better. I haven't lost as much life as I did. It doesn't really matter if I lose all my lives anyway since I can't just select 'continue' from the menu. Selecting 'continue' lets me play from where I left off and the minigames (Toad Houses and Hammer Brothers battles) will be open for me to choose and play. Contradicting what I said from my last post, I think I can beat this game because dying is not really an issue here. I'll be able to beat this game even if I die a lot. I know the enemies/monsters aren't deadly, especially since they are amusingly adorable, but I tend to do stupid things like run straight toward an enemy because I forgot to press the 'jump' button. This game is simple, yet intriguing. Each level is not really the same. Sometimes I'll start out running on normal land, sometimes I'll be swimming my way to get on land, and sometimes I'll be flying through the air with my cute racoon outfit. However, I'd prefer wearing the frog outfit when I'm underwater because I'll be able to have great control in the water just like I have great control on land. Mario may look a bit ridiculous in that outfit, but whatever helps is always a benefit. ... continued onto next post.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 02:11:15 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=701&iddiary=1697Tales of Phantasia (GBA) - Thu, 18 Jan 2007 17:05:28https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=381Well, so far, I'm still stuck in the sidequest even though it has been days since I last posted. I'm mainly focusing on leveling up in the sidequest because the monsters are whooping my butt and if I'm having trouble fighting the monsters, how am I going to defeat Dhaos?! So, not much will be happening in the near future (this month ... and maybe next month). I'm too occupied in my schoolwork right now to really pick up my DS and play this game, even though I want to. Well, hope I won't take forever with this game or not play this game at all. Until next time!~ Thu, 18 Jan 2007 17:05:28 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=381&iddiary=1605Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) - Thu, 18 Jan 2007 17:00:21https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=701... continued from previous post. Playing the game again, I lost a lot of lives and barely passing each level as the smallest Mario. I'm not the kind of player that likes to rush through the game and beat each level without getting all the coins and such. The thing about this game is that I am the one controlling where I want to go and which level I want to choose (when there are split roads on the map). Usually, I just play each level in numerical order. What I love most is the power-ups in this game. I think the power-ups are what makes this game special and unique. The abilities of the cute outfits or transformations are totally awesome and not to mention cute. I like to focus on the cuter aspects of any game I play because, well, I'm a girl. I don't like playing games with ugly creatures or play as an ugly hero. Well, I think this is as much as I want to say about Super Mario Bros. 3 for now. I need to save some stuff for my next post.
