Maria Mancera's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1926Shadow Of Mordor (PC) - Wed, 28 Mar 2018 22:51:10https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6642This time around I have had a better time with the controls and am able to move around and get things done better. So I started where I left off last time and that is to open cages and let out the Catacombs (I think that is what they are called) and make one of the captains weak. I managed to do just that but I kept on dying because I couldn’t get away from the Catacomb in time and it killed me. I ended up getting away from the Catacomb in time, saved some slaves, and caught the captain while he was weakened by the catacomb, but I screwed it up and was killed. After restarting like 10 times I was able to kill one of the captains and a bunch of Orcs/Uruks and it felt good. I was in a big pinch with a lot of my enemies around me, 2 captains, hardly any energy left, and somehow I managed to stay alive and kill one of the captains. It’s kind of funny that I felt really accomplished from just clicking and pushing buttons to slash at my enemies. Something that I noticed is that this game gives the player a sense of time. Every time that I restarted, the game didn’t. The game doesn’t restart, your enemies will get stronger and they will stay that strong until you kill them. The game also changes the time of day when you respawn; it could be raining, sunny, night, you really get a sense that the game is moving forward every time that you are away from it.Wed, 28 Mar 2018 22:51:10 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6642&iddiary=11786Shadow Of Mordor (PC) - Sun, 25 Mar 2018 23:35:19https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6642So I spent most of my time this time around trying to figure out how to actually play the game, and get through missions. So I died about 3 or 4 times before actually figuring out how to fight the Orks/Uruks and the captains. I actually finished the first objective, and killed one of the captains. It was actually harder than I thought it would be, I didn’t know that clicking and pointing would be so hard to do! I haven’t played a game like Shadow of Mordor before, and I find that when I defeat my enemies there is definitely a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment when you kill the captains or their lackeys. It is actually really fun to slash away at your enemies. But going back to the part of the game play, I was able to rescue the hostages and I find out that one of Talion’s betrayed comrades has some information for me on who I need to talk to about the Black Hand of Sauron. That person or, I should say Uruk, is named Ratbag and I need to free him from prison. I was able to set him free and get some info on who is my next target is, as well as his weaknesses. I am then tasked with keeping Ratbag safe from his captures, which I did. I then needed to sneak around without being caught to open some cages, but I couldn’t figure out how to do that, so I left it off there and I will leave it until the next log. I recently took a class on The Lord of the rings, so I am kind of excited to learn more about the lore, and just have fun going through the game! In this game play it was more cut scenes to get the player settled into the situation that Talion (whom you play as) is in. You learn that his entire family gets massacred by Orcs. Talion is alos killed by the Orcs, but he doesn’t get the opportunity to move onto either the land of light or dark, he is stuck in between. Talion learns that in order to move on, he needs to find the Black Hand of Sauron and destroy it. The player moves onto some more gameplay. I got some intel on what my next mission was, and that is to find an Orc named Kimbul, I believe. I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to actually move around. I don’t really play slasher games, and I am definitely not used to it. There is quite a bit moving pieces, so I still need to figure out how to play this game. I died on a mini mission trying to save some humans that were enslaved, and apparently made the orcs stronger. That is where I left off and I hope to be able to advance some more later on. A few thoughts I had on this game while playing it was how the cut scenes showed very raw footage of the violence. I have no problems with violence, but it is definitely something to think about when it comes to the ethics in this game.Fri, 23 Mar 2018 13:41:40 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6642&iddiary=11724Firewatch (PC) - Thu, 15 Feb 2018 00:50:37https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6580On my third time I am having a hard time actually finding my way around. The game is actually really big, and the fact that there aren’t really signs pointing you in the right direction makes it hard to know what I and supposed to do and where I am supposed to go. This is actually kind of frustrating, yet cool at the same time. What makes this part of the game cool is that it makes me feel like I am actually out on the trails. When you are outside you don’t have something that will hint you on where to go next, you have to use a map or remember where you were going. Also the fact that you have a compass makes the game feel that much more real. As I was moving around trying to find these lines I continued to talk to Delilah the supervisor. I found it interesting though the Henry is so easily able to discuss his problems to someone he hasn’t met. I wonder at this point in the game if we will ever meet Delilah, or rather any character in the game. I end up finding the power line after a few times going in circles, and it seems that the teens were the ones that cut the lines. Delilah gets really mad and tells Henry to find the girls and do something to them that would make them not want to come back to the camp grounds. I found it kind of weird though that the supervisor would act like that in front of her employee. One thing that I am also constantly wondering about is that I am finding all of these notes from people that worked there, but I still haven’t seen a single person that works there. Am I alone? Or are there more people? I ended my game play after finding the power line, but I am for sure going to play some more later, just to try and get more pieces to the puzzle.Thu, 15 Feb 2018 00:50:37 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6580&iddiary=11666Firewatch (PC) - Tue, 13 Feb 2018 01:03:44https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6580Second time around I am able to find the people that are lighting off the fireworks. It was a pair of teenagers, and I pretty much scare them off. I then need to get back to my watch tower which is pretty hard for me. I am not good at directions, and have never used a compass in my life. After walking around for about 20 minutes I finally make it back to the tower. Once I make it back I find that someone has broken into the tower and wrecked the place. I find it kind of odd though that the only thing that they actually threw out the window was the type-writer. Of all the things that they could have thrown out the window, it was the one thing that he has kept with him from before he took this job. I feel like this will mean something in the future, maybe that he kind of threw his past out the window when he took this job? I start day 2 and the phone lines seem to have been knocked down by a storm. I am task to check if my lines are down as well. I am supposed to check them north of the canyons, but I really suck at directions, so after 10 minutes of wandering around and getting nowhere, I decided to leave it for the next game log.Tue, 13 Feb 2018 01:03:44 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6580&iddiary=11613Firewatch (PC) - Mon, 12 Feb 2018 00:03:29https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6580When I opened the game it automatically started with some story. I play as a man, he meets a woman named Julia, and it’s obvious he is hitting on her. They get along and he becomes her boyfriend a week later. The text stops and he is in an elevator. I grab the backpack and I drive away. I am then given more of the story, everything is going well with Julia, and I am given the choice to get a Shepard or a beagle. I choose the Shepard and they named him Mayhem. I am curious though on how my choice of a dog will change my story. Julia starts to ask about kids, and I decide to go along with her and say that it would be awesome to have some. I am then taken to a trail, which I walk down, and then I am taken to some more of the story. They fight some, but it was all resolved in the morning and she draws him the next day. This is basically the life of an ordinary married couple. I am taken back to the trail again and I walk down it. The game is actually really gorgeous, and the scenes are very calming. In the story some drama happens with a thief, but he ended up scaring him away. The story starts to get very dark, and I noticed that the backgrounds for the captions start to get dark too. They don’t end up having kids because of work, and she decides to take a job in Connecticut. After a few episodes at work she is sent home and we find out that she has dementia. This game took a very dark turn very fast. Julia gets worse and she is sent home permanently. She gets even worse and I decide to put her in a home, and that is mainly because I know that it is really hard on a person to take care of a person 24/7. This is actually one of the most moral dealing questions. And is definitely a catch 22 type of situation, both decision suck; you either take care of them yourself, and not giving them your full attention, or you can put them in a home and possibly abandon them. I was hoping that my character wouldn’t abandon Julia, but he does. He gets more and more distant from her. Mayhem dies, and Julia doesn’t even remember him when you tell her. It also is harder for her to remember him, he blames it on him not visiting her as often. He takes a job, and the game takes you to a tower. I am guessing that it is the fire watch. I talked to the boss and she asks what he is running from, he doesn’t say, and the next day starts. The day starts off late because he slept in. you are given the task to stop people from lighting fireworks. And that is where I left off. The main character in this game is left with a very hard dilemma, his wife is pretty much withering away very soon in life, and he is left behind. It’s hard to choose the right choice in this situation. But I don’t know if running away would have been the best choice, and that is what he did by taking this job. I think that just like the boss said over the radio was spot on, that no one takes the job unless they are running away from something. And I think that this guy has a lot of self-guilt, but also needed to distant himself from everything in order to keep his sanity. I think that this game will show a lot of self-healing within this individual, and I am excited to play some more!Mon, 12 Feb 2018 00:03:29 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6580&iddiary=11593Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma (PC) - Thu, 18 Jan 2018 01:19:09https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6524For my last game log I decided to follow Q's team more. I decided to follow Q's team more because I found their character development to be more interesting. I also found that the characters in the other teams were kind of bland. They have a few things that are interesting about the, but overall their attitudes and the way that they carry themselves is kind of boring. This time around was somewhat confusing for me, I had so many scenes that were available to me that I didn’t really know how the flow of time worked. I spent a few minutes trying to piece together what was supposed to be played after the votes, but I ended up just playing one of the scenes. I started out in a kind of gas chamber, which I think they called a contamination room. There is a yellow button by the door that Q almost pushes, but was stopped by Mira and Erick. Then Zero gives the rules to the new game, all the teams are given the option to kill each other again. If one of the teams decide to push the yellow button and set themselves free, it will kill the rest of the teams by sending fatal gas to their chambers. You then as a player are given the choice to kill the others or not push the button and chance it. I chose not to kill the other teams because my morals kind of prevent myself from wanting to kill the other teams. Zero comes back after your decision and tells you that the gas doesn’t go off automatically and that you will have to see if you made it or not when you wake up. I moved on to another scene after that and find that my team seemed to have survived and that none of the teams decided to push the button. Q's team seems to have woken up in what looks like a biology lab, you are tasked to find a way out. This is where the actual puzzle game play starts, I have to actually look around the room and look for clues. I really enjoyed this part of the game, I think it took me around 45 minutes actually figure out how all the things in the room work together in getting me a way out. Along the way I found a few notes. Some of the notes talk about a virus that has been going around that is highly contagious and is fatal. While trying to find a way out, all of Q's team is pricked which may or may not have been the virus. When you fully complete the puzzle, you find 3 viles. Then ques Zero, he tells you about another murder and how life is unfair. He talks about the radical 6 virus (that is inside the viles) which is a virus that gives you the urge to commit suicide, when you have contracted the virus the chances of you living is 75%. He also tells you that when the 2 viruses are mixed together they cancel out and there is no effect on the body. You are then given the choice of injecting yourself with the radical 6 or not. I chose to inject because the chances of surviving are higher than if you don’t. You are then taken back to the bar and everything seems to be fine. You are told about Eric's dark past about his mother's passing and how his father abused him, and the it got strange. Mira starts laughing at Eric's story, then she walks over to Eric and kills him. Q is obviously frightened and confused, Mira pretty much was the least violent person in the group and she just killed Eric (whom she seemed to have liked). Then Mira Kills Q. I found it kind of ironic that when I chose the path that would have a higher chance of survival, almost the entire team dies for no reason. It made me pretty sad to see my favorite team die, and I don’t think that this is the end of it either. It's almost like I am still trying to stop the inevitable, and its biting me in the butt. Maybe they all are supposed to die anyway, and there is no way to stop it.Thu, 18 Jan 2018 01:19:09 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6524&iddiary=11529Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma (PC) - Wed, 17 Jan 2018 00:34:28https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6524On my second round through I already know the mechanics of how this game is played, and I could get further. I went through Carlos' team which consists of Akane (a rather normal girl, but I feel like she is hiding something) and Junpei (who is pretty much the bad boy). I found out that Carlos is given the same options as Q on what he can say to the rest of his team. After asking my team a few questions I learn that Junpei and Akane are childhood friends that seem to have some sort of broken relationship. I also found out that they were part of a previous game with Zero. I haven't played the other games in this series, so I am guessing that it has to do with one of the games that came previously. I also learned that the fate of humanity may also be put at risk along with our characters. After a while Gab comes through the vent and Carlos decides to send him to Q-team with the instructions on how they should all vote in order to all survive. He sends Gab down the vent exactly how Q sent him down the vent, which was with cheese. There are so many similarities between Q and C-team, and I found that interesting. After I chose the team according to the note I went on to D-teams point of view. When I entered D-team I found that I could ask Phi (a very level-headed lady) and Sigma (a man with an attitude of an older man) different questions. That is where I learned that Sigma already knew that something like this was going to happen. I am also suspicions of how much Sigma and Phi may know and are just not saying. Gab came and I chose to vote in the way that would save everyone. The more I play the more I feel like I am playing chess by myself. I have all the power, I can choose who to kill, or to try and save everyone. I don't know if trying to save everyone will even work in the long run though. A lot of the characters are hinting to me that it is just like prolonging the inevitable. So, I am guessing that at some point I will be forced to go against my choice of saving everyone. I am enjoying this game a lot and am excited to play some more. (This entry has been edited1 time. It was last edited on Wed, 17 Jan 2018 00:36:49.)Wed, 17 Jan 2018 00:34:28 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6524&iddiary=11479Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma (PC) - Mon, 15 Jan 2018 23:30:03https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6524I really enjoyed the story aspect of this game, I really like that there is a lot of time devoted to the story part of the game. The beginning was a little confusing to me, you are tasked with the duty of choosing a side of a coin. If you get the guess wrong you have to play Zero's game, which is 6 of you must die before the rest can go free, if you get it right you all go right. It seems like there is no way to get the wrong choice the first time that you choose a coin, so it took me like 20 minutes and choosing the right coin five times, to realize that there was more to the game. When you go in further you find that you have the option to follow the 3 team leaders Carlos, Q and Diana. After you choose a person to follow, you can then choose the wring coin. So far in this game play I have started with Q's team which consists of Mira (a very bold woman that hat has Eric wrapped around her finger), and Eric (a panicky guy that likes to follow Mira around). You are thrown into a type of district that is based on the first letter of the team leader, so for example Q's district is Q. When you enter your place Zero tells you that the team leader needs vote for a team to execute. It seems that you will always play as the team leader so I got to choose what Q did and said. A little thing that was interesting was that Q has absolutely no idea who he is, and that the suspicious helmet that he has on was not of his choosing and he can't take it off. I also go to find out where we are. Eric and Mira explain that it was an experiment to see if humans could psychologically live on Mars. The time is almost up to make a choice when you are greeted by the dog Gab that was taking the experiment along with Eric and Mira. Gab had a note from C-team that came up with a plan to make no one die as long as everyone follows it. Q sends the dog to D-district (or whatever they call it). I chose to follow the plan that C-team came up with, and that is where I ended. I found the game to be so story oriented, with very few things for the player to do, which I really enjoyed. I don’t know if later there will be more for me to do, but I am Ok if it just stays the same. I also like the style and graphics. The 3D models are pretty on point, they aren't weird to look at or anything. The only thing is that I could tell that they got a little lazy with the lip-syncing (even with the Japanese audio), which can make it hard to watch at times, but over all its not too bad. I can't wait to keep playing!Mon, 15 Jan 2018 23:30:03 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6524&iddiary=11443
