DayBreak94's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=1944Yakuza 0 (PS4) - Thu, 29 Mar 2018 10:32:50https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6663Yakuza 0 Session #3 During this session, I made a great deal of progress story-wise, and the plot is starting to thicken. During this session, I also tried to explore the city a bit more however, I found that there were some areas that were blocked off during certain story events which sort of bugged me. I get it understand the reason the designers want the player to focus on the task at hand and not get distracted with side activities. Something really amusing that I noticed while exploring the game world is that the lightest tap on the shoulder while walking past someone will tick them off and start a fight with you. It is amusing that some random people you barely tap on the street will through down the gantlet and start a fight in the middle of a public place. I also like that fact that you help people on the street that are being harassed by other people. In one instance I took a slight detour to help a woman that was being accosted by some shady guys in an alley, this feature reminds me of Batman Arkham City where you could save political prisoners being roughed up by the other inmates. Also during this session, I experienced a boss fight, the fight with one of the Dojima lieutenants wasn't too bad however, it was a noticeable step up from the eniemes I had been fighting before so this fight gave me a little trouble. What I find very engaging about this game is learning more about the role of a Yakuza in a crime syndicate and how important the family name is in the organization. The main character Kiryu is stripped of his title as a Yakuza to protect the honor of his family name. In terms of ethical issues in this game, I think possible examine the actions of the player and player character could lead to an interesting to the topic to further explore. I like how this game has consequences for the character's action. Even though this was not an action triggered by the player, as the player I feel responsible for Kiryu's actions in the game and at this moment Kiryu is in serious trouble. One aspect of this game that I haven't praised was the portrayal of the criminal syndicate. Now being a game I'm sure there are some aspects of organized crime that are exaggerated but, I imagine some of the content surrounding Yakuzas and criminal families is pretty accurate. The gameplay in terms of combat has also been diversified for me, being able to switch combat styles during fights is a great way to cater to different styles of play. Exploring the world is also pretty interesting seeing the streets of Tokyo and discovering all of the side content in the game which I plan to experiment more with in the future. It is a title that I pretty much knew nothing about before I started the playthrough. I can say that what I have experienced so far has been very interesting to me, and has kept my interest. One big thing I noticed about this game is that it is very story heavy and right off the bat the beginning of the game was front-loaded with cutscenes. The cutscenes are well directed and the fact that game doesn't have English voice actors makes me really pay attention to the on-screen subtitles. So far the gameplay that I have experienced has been pretty linear however, that is not a bad thing as long as the game keeps me intrigued. I didn't really know what a Yakuza was or what they did until I experienced this game, I look forward to learning more snippets about Japanese culture through this game. The combat albeit simple is pretty good and doesn't feel too clunky which or a chore to do. I did get a kick out of the karaoke rhythm minigame I wasn't expecting the game to have so much variety in the gameplay. This game I think will give me plenty of ethical issues to explore in the game and even possibly issues surrounding the game. Prison Architect is an interesting game but, I take some issue with the tutorials and how to accomplish a certain task. I for some reason had a really difficult time assigning guards to patrol routes around the prison. I was following the directions in the tutorial but, for some odd reason, I just couldn't get them to do what the game wanted. I don't think that I will be able to finish the campaign during these three sessions however, I do plan to finish the game. It is interesting that the class discussion for today was about Kant and his view on consequences. When I play Prison Architect I am always considering the consequences of my actions and how they will affect the prison I am managing. I feel that an ethical issue that I can take away from playing this game is that our actions in life have consequences and the results of those actions matter. Plus overall I feel that Prison Architect is a very interesting representation in the medium of video games. Nick DayThu, 15 Feb 2018 17:27:59 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6586&iddiary=11680Prison Architect (PC) - Wed, 14 Feb 2018 22:29:36https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6586Session number two of Prison Architect was an interesting one. I did make a whole lot of story progress but, I keep noticing new little nuances as I keep playing the game. Since this game has the player waiting for construction to be done in a lot of instances in the game, the player has some down time to explore the prison. One thing that I seemed to miss in my last session is that the inmates themselves have little bios you can read about them. This game has somewhat of a dark sense of humor especially one of the inmate's bio, that says the guy had a video game based insanity and went crazy and tried to eat his neighbors' brains like a zombie hence his nickname "zombie". Even though the art style is very simplistic, every time I play this game I keep thinking about the harsh reality of prison and we have consequences of our actions and depending on the egregious nature of your action prison could be your consequence. Another, aspect of the game I find interesting is the absence of music for the most part. The sound in this game sound like it was posssibly recorded in an actual prison which makes the gameplay experience very diagetic. These are some of the thoughts that I had during my second session with this game. Nick Day (This entry has been edited1 time. I knew literally nothing about this game before going into it so I am doing a completely blind playthrough. The is pretty much in the title you are Prison Architect and it is your job to make sure all the facilities are operational. Just based off of this first play session I can already tell that this game is going to be very engaging and thought-provoking. I only finished the first chapter of the game and it is already making question the ethical dilemma of death row and executing criminals. The overall art for the game is pretty simple however, I don't feel that the art style detracts from the serious themes that are presented in the game. In fact, the photo pictures that the game shows in certain cutscenes are very dark and sometimes disturbing. Overall, this game is going to be a very interesting game to for me to experience and will probably get me to reflect on the harsh realities of prison and crime. Up until this point in the game, I have been taking it slow getting lost in the world exploring the environment and enjoying the conversations between Henry and Delilah. However, during this session, the story started to become a little more tense with the creepy notion that someone out in the wilderness has been spying on Henry and Delilah and recording their conversations. This part of the game really made me think about an invasion of privacy and whether or not in the case of this game if it is an acceptable practice. This might be one of the first instances in the game where I have found an ethical dilemma. Granted the notion only of spying on two people in the middle of the wilderness is a little unsettling. At this point in the game, I have to say that this game has me hooked and eager to find out what happens next. The mini-conversations that Henry has with Delilah while he is exploring the wilderness are great to listen to. Something that I didn't really notice with my gameplay in the last session was how much I loved exploring and getting lost in the game's world. What really got to me during this session was the conversation that Henry had with Delilah about his wife and why he took the job. This game does an excellent job of making the player thinking about what they should say to other characters in the game. I have to say that the character interactions in this game are fantastic, I think I'm starting to understand why this game is so special to so many people. This will be my first time playing the game so I'm excited to see whether or not I will enjoy it or not. Today was my first play session with Firewatch and I have to say that the game is definitely intriguing. I'm going into this playthrough completely blind I have never played this game before but, I have heard good things about the game. One part of the game that surprised me was the beginning of the game and how the story was presented. I really enjoyed the setting for the beginning of Firewatch having the backstory of the main character told through text and gameplay was very interesting. Even though it was just text I had an emotional reaction to the fact that Julia started suffering from dementia and Henry had to move on in his life. The cell shaded art style for this game looks fantastic and the atmosphere in this game is very immersive. For this play session, I tackled the Prologue and Day1 on the job. The map mechanic in this game is so cool because it actually has the player looking at a physical map on the screen and not just so mini map in the menu. One of the aspects of the gameplay that was very immersive was the radio mechanic talking back and forth with your companion in the mountains while performing your missions. I didn't seem to catch many ethical arguments in the game but, I will be looking for more in future play sessions. Overall during this first session I found Firewatch to be very immersive gaming experience. Nick DayTue, 16 Jan 2018 19:21:52 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6531&iddiary=11457
