I was not expecting some of what happened and the game does a good job of making the player feel for the characters in the story. Some of the actions of the characters were definitely unethical but the game does not make the player choose whether or not to make a game altering decision. I think this kind of game could be made a lot better if the player’s choices affected the story more throughout the game.Wed, 28 Mar 2018 22:34:42 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6643&iddiary=11785Firewatch (PC) - Mon, 26 Mar 2018 21:59:25https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6643This time playing firewatch was a lot more interesting and the story seems to be picking up. There doesn’t seem to be any moral issues related to the story that I can tell as of now. Except of course the part where the character leaves his wife to go out in the woods. The art in the game is great but at the beginning it is very repetitive.Mon, 26 Mar 2018 21:59:25 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6643&iddiary=11737Firewatch (PC) - Sat, 24 Mar 2018 01:07:24https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6643This time I decided to play firewatch. At the beginning I thought the game kind of forced the player to choose between being a jerk or being a really mean jerk, the decisions that you do make at the beginning seem to have no short term effect on the outcome of the game. Firewatch seems to be intriguing and also very well written from the little of it that I played so far, I’m looking forward to playing more.Sat, 24 Mar 2018 01:07:24 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6643&iddiary=11725Prison Architect (PC) - Thu, 15 Feb 2018 21:29:38https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6601This time playing Prison Architect I played more of the story mode. I got to a point where I could decide what kind of prison I wanted to run. I could meet the needs of the prisoners such as food, or I could suppress the prisoners by force. This game seems almost too realistic in its depiction of how a prison operates at least from what I know of prisons. I think that the game raises questions about how prisoners are really treated in prison and how prisons could theoretically be run. There seems to be only choices on how you want to run your prison but not who becomes a prisoner. I’m interested in seeing what the modding community has done for this game.Thu, 15 Feb 2018 21:29:38 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6601&iddiary=11686Prison Architect (PC) - Wed, 14 Feb 2018 21:16:17https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6601This time playing Prison Architect I decided to try out the free mode which lets you design your own prison. I really should have completed the tutorial first because right away my prison went down hill. I spent money that I did not have on things that were unnecessary in the beginning of the game. I realized it isn’t a game where you can just jump in and learn everything you need to know in five minutes. My prison ran out of money and never had any prisoners or made any money but I did learn a lot about the game through my failure at it. I learned that with this game I should stick to the tutorial first until I have a grasp at everything. Thinking about the game though, it is interesting that there are so many things to do in game besides just placing objects and people around, you really have to manage it like a prison or else you will fail. Looking at the achievements it is interesting to see that there is one for achieving a fifty percent recidivism rate.Wed, 14 Feb 2018 21:16:17 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6601&iddiary=11654Prison Architect (PC) - Tue, 13 Feb 2018 20:52:40https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6601This is the first time I have played prison architect. I thought that the art style was done really well as were the cutscenes. There seems to be a lot of depth to the gameplay and all the options that you have in building a prison such as you have to make sure there is a power hooked up to every cell and building for the prisoners not to get angry, you must also feed the prisoners. I think the most interesting thing about the game is that the prison is supposed to be run as a business which references our own private prison system in the United States. It seems as though the balancing point in the game is how much money do you spend keeping the prisoners happy and not rioting so that you don’t lose money and no prisoners escape. I’m really looking forward to playing Prison Architect again.Tue, 13 Feb 2018 20:52:40 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6601&iddiary=11621This is the Police (PC) - Sun, 11 Feb 2018 20:58:07https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6562Upon playing more of the game I became more and more frustrated and bored with the core game mechanics. There doesn’t seem to be any impact on the story in terms of the player’s decisions which is quite annoying. I am to the point now where every day in the game just seems like a chore but maybe that’s how the designers wanted the game to be. There are moral choices that the player must make and the whole thing feels like a balancing act of whether or not to do a certain task for a certain party and how much reward you will receive or how much money you will lose. I think that the main problem of the game is that there is no way to track your past decisions and how they impact the narrative, which I’m unsure at this point if they do. I’m mainly just confused by the game and I think I’m to the point where I don’t care about the story if I have to slog through boring, repetitive game play.Sun, 11 Feb 2018 20:58:07 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6562&iddiary=11591This is the Police (PC) - Sat, 10 Feb 2018 16:54:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6562This time I played “This is the Police” I had a more interesting time than the last time I played. At one point in the game the side of the gang war I had sided with lost, this was mostly because I was unable to understand the rules of how the gang war worked. A the end of every day there is a counter that shows who has more points in the gang war, the way that this works is only explained once and it’s been a while since I played so I forgot how the gang war worked. There is a narrative in the game but it is only slightly engaging but I am looking forward to the game introducing more elements such as politics.Sat, 10 Feb 2018 16:54:51 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6562&iddiary=11585This is the Police (PC) - Fri, 19 Jan 2018 21:27:57https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6562Upon my third time playing the game I got really bored with its core mechanics as well as the story. There’s nothing wrong with the story, it’s just that there’s nothing to do for now. While at the beginning there were moral dilemmas and hard choices this section of the game seems to be about getting into the game play, the problem is, the game play is pretty boring this early on in the game as stated earlier. There have been choices such as whether or not to sell evidence from crime scenes to the mob, the problem is, there is no way of telling how these decisions further impact the games difficulty or story. There needs to be some sort of way that the player can keep track of their deeds such as a journal that updates automatically and displays the major decisions and stats that the game is keeping track of but the player has a difficult time keeping track of. I am interested in seeing how the story of the game plays out but not if I have to slog through hours of boring game play.Fri, 19 Jan 2018 21:27:57 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6562&iddiary=11565This is the Police (PC) - Thu, 18 Jan 2018 19:58:14https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6562My second time playing “This is the police” I noticed how the game makes you choose which officers to put in harm’s way when you decide to send an officer to a crime. The game seems to be full of decisions that will affect the ending in some way but the problem is I can’t figure out how the game will end. The game makes you choose between two different options in most major decisions but I think the game could be better if it introduced a third option to do nothing.Thu, 18 Jan 2018 19:58:14 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6562&iddiary=11553
