I had to battle through this kitchen level where we meet these two giant cooks. The frightening sounds that these two made when they spotted me was terrifying. Some of these puzzles were a little challenging but nothing too difficult. After this part we finally figured out where we are. We are on a boat and it looks like this boat is being constantly boarded by fat people. During this section we had to maneuver our way through these fat people as they ate everything in front of them. It is interesting how there is so many people eating too much food when our character is barley getting by. Throughout this game our person has almost starved and we even had to eat a living rat. But the horrors our character committed recently is just too much. We were having our typical hunger wave when we came across a gnome friend. Throughout the game we have come across these guys. They are the only creatures that have not attacked us, and they even show us sometimes how to get through the level. This gnome was holding a piece of meat for us and I was so grateful for this gesture. When we approached the gnome, we viciously started chewing on the gnome instead of the meat! I was horrified by this scene. Our character is no better then the creatures that we have faced so far. After this scene the game started to get creepy. We had to avoid this ghost lady that kept appearing and the game ended up getting so freaky that I just turned off the game. I really needed some time to calm down and not get a heart attack. I am so interested in how this game turns out and I am definitely going to finish this game.Thu, 08 Nov 2018 01:17:00 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6869&iddiary=12292Little Nightmares (PS4) - Wed, 07 Nov 2018 21:22:41https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6869This game by far has been the most enjoyable to play. The game has kept me engaged and wanting to keep playing. The story, enemies, and puzzles that this game offers are so interesting. I was introduced to this creepy and long armed baby looking thing. This creature had these tiny legs but could still run super-fast. No where was safe from this thing because it could reach long distances but still be able to catch up to me if I ran. The thing couldn’t see so if I was quiet; I was safe. The game had a lot of jump scares and intense moments that got my heart rate going. When I was finally able to cut its long arms off it was such a satisfying feeling. This game was able to catch the attention of my roommates and we all cheered when we beat this thing. Hopefully this creature doesn’t come back even more angry. I talked about the sound in my other entry and through this playthrough it is even more incredible. The creature makes this freaky sound and when it chases you the music really gets you going. The sound is great for knowing where the creature is, and I can kind of anticipate when I need to be sneaky. One annoying thing that I came across during my time playing is walking off the edge and dying. This happened to me so much and I had to repeat long sections. It’s a side scrolling game with some depth to it so walking up narrow stairs is a huge challenge. I am very excited to keep playing this game and learn more about where I am and who these monsters are. The long-armed creature was bagging up children and doing something with them. Hopefully I will be able to save them. (This entry has been edited1 time. The way the game starts is very cool because it just throws you into this world without any set up or backstory. I did not know why I was there or where I am. I do not even know who this kid in the yellow rain coat is. I guess I am in a dream state based on the title but that is all I got. We do come across what looks like little kids sleeping but I have no idea why this boy is having a nightmare about other people sleeping. The game does not show you any controls, but I was able to figure out most of them from just pressing every button. But if you do get stuck on something the game will tell you what buttons to press to get past the obstacle. The game has done a good job leading me through the level with well placed signs or lighting. But the sound has really had a big impact on my experience so far. Every enemy has a creepy/scary noise to it and the music will pick up quickly if there is an enemy close by. When the boy is running you can even hear his rain coat rubbing together. All the ambient sounds do a great job of putting me in this world. I have not figured anything else during my time playing the game. I do think we are being watched by someone because of all the eyes scattered around and we found a monitor with different videos on it. Every time the boy dies he wakes up again so maybe he is stuck in this nightmare. The games mechanics are simple but there are a lot of wrinkles that the game does with each one. The mechanics so far are a run, grab, and turn on a lighter. But with these three the game is able to make a lot of cool puzzles and obstacles. I did not except much going into this game but so far I am interested in the story and enjoy the gameplay.Mon, 05 Nov 2018 20:27:45 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6869&iddiary=12217This is the Police (PC) - Thu, 27 Sep 2018 00:26:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6810During my time playing there were so many cut scenes. Jack has a new friend that they both share secrets with and I am getting the feeling that this relationship will affect his already fragile relation with his wife. Jack’s new friend opened up about a serious issue that made me feel so bad for her. She is trapped, and it is hard for her to get help. Luckily, she has Jack to talk to or else the situation could get worse. Also, a new serial killer has come to Freeburg and the civilians are going crazy. One day after word got out about the serial killer so many calls were coming in about how they saw the serial killer. I don’t blame the people because if word got out that a serial killer was near me I would be very freaked out too. The day to day police work has gotten very easy. Less police officers are skipping work and more recruits signed up, so I now almost have a full crew. However, the detective work has been so intense. Now that the serial killer is here more and more detectives must be used to catch him and at one point I had five investigations open. I slimed it down to three, so I don’t feel too overwhelmed, but I have been stuck on this one investigation for about 18 days now and I just want to finish this case. The game’s story has really opened up with a lot of different story lines happening. There is the serial killer investigation, the whole problem with Jack’s wife and hiring a private detective. Then there is Jack trying to keep his job and his relationship with his new friend. Also, the head mafia guy randomly called Jack, so I feel like that will turn into something. All these situations are pretty life change so it must be hard for Jack mentally. Jack must deal with all these problems and still command police officer’s day to day. I do not know if real life police chiefs must deal with all this but if they do that must be so hard on them and their families.Thu, 27 Sep 2018 00:26:51 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6810&iddiary=12126This is the Police (PC) - Wed, 26 Sep 2018 00:17:47https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6810This playthrough was so difficult because there was so much happening with my police officers. Every day their was multiple police officers that were drunk or too tired to work. I couldn’t let them all take the day off or else I would have no one on shift. Then a case went wrong and three officers died so I was even more sort staffed. At on point I had eleven officers out of 20 possible officers. Right now there is not a lot of people that are applying so I do not think I will ever have a full staff again. To make matters worse the mayor ordered me to send police officers to a LGBT rally so I sent some people over there and then pretty soon I’m getting taken to court because of unjust force. So in order to save my skin I forged a blackmail note written by the church. Hopefully the court buys it and I do not get into trouble. I do feel kind of bad for blaming the church but I feel worse about losing money in order to black mail them. After the trail four officers quit because the church was talking bad about me so trying to stop crime with a short staff is tough. I am only playing a video game and police work is stress full. I can not even imagine what it must be like for real police officers trying to stop crime while short staffed. In the story Jack is hiring a private detective to find his wife so hopefully that works out. I also was able to chew through a bunch of investigation cases so now I am not behind on those. And in doing this I shut down a criminal organization to earn me thirty thousand dollars. Jack mentioned that he wanted to finish his police career with I think a half million, but I am not even close to that much. Hopefully down the line I can run into some big amounts of money. I bought this game a while back and never was able to finish it. I did not get too far in my previous playthrough, so I continued with the current game. It took me a little while to remember where I was at in the story and what already happened, but I think I know the situation that Jack Boyd is in. I really love the strategy that this game offers. Whether it is deciding on how many officers you assign or who is allowed time off. Then the game will offer other challenges to spice up the day to day police chief duties. The simplistic art style is something that I really like and the voice acting by each character makes every situation feel more real. Jack Boyd is an interesting character that I enjoy learning more about. He does things that I really respect and then he goes ahead and does something that I do not like which really makes him more interesting. The corruption that goes on in this police department makes me wonder what other police departments in the real world do to survive. There is so much evil that could be going on and people would never know. Another cool aspect about this game is how the game has made me care about certain police officers. I still have officers that have been around from the beginning or they have a perfect case completion, so I really get angry if one of them dies or fails a certain case. The investigation part of the game is so hard. I waste so many days just waiting for more frames to come in when I already have all the necessary pieces to complete the sequence. Maybe this is how real-life investigators feel when they have the answer right in front of them, but they can’t figure it out. The story had a huge turn of events that makes future outcomes very interesting. But also, it has made the day to day police officer work a lot crazier. One day I was working with just four police officers, so I failed so many assignments that day. I really hope that doesn’t affect any outcomes in the future.Mon, 24 Sep 2018 22:13:31 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6810&iddiary=12064Nier Automata (PS4) - Wed, 29 Aug 2018 18:42:59https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6732Nier Automata again has brought up interesting moral situations. Before I decided to delve deeper into the main story I wanted to chip away at more side quests. One side quest stood out to me very strongly. A character that I have meet before contacted me and asked if I could help her out. So, I meet up with her and she gave me a fish to eat. She warned me that it could kill me and not to get mad at her if I did, but characters in games just say this to scare you. When I ate the fish, I did die and I had to start back where I last saved. Luckily, I save often so I didn’t have to redo too much but I still hate this person for giving me that fish. She did warn me, but games usually don’t kill you like that. Sometime later I thought back on that quest and really admired the game for killing me like this. It is very creative and shows that this game is full of surprises. Next, I continued with the main story and things got even more uncomfortable. I had to battle through a great number of enemies all fighting to protect their king. I did not want to harm the king and we were just instructed to talk with him. But every enemy that saw me would charge and fight for this king. Once I got to the throne room to chat with the king I find that the king is a baby that doesn’t speak. Did this group of machines all come together and make a baby machine baby, or did they find it? Either way they probably did not trust any outsider and were very hostile towards everyone so that this baby could be safe. To this point the machines have showed so many emotions that they should not be able to have. Could machines eventually learn all these different emotions? Right after I see this baby machine I was really hoping my character wouldn’t hurt the baby. Then another android like me comes flying in and stabs the baby! Command calls in and says that this android is rogue, and we need to kill it. Surprisingly the rogue android did not start attacking me. I wanted to talk to it but then my stupid side kick 9S starts shooting at it. This was one of the hardest fights so far but of course it got away. My character asks this android why it betrayed the organization and she responds dramatically saying that the organization has betrayed me. Its hard for me to believe it when it just stabbed a baby machine, but I guess anything is possible now. The game then skips over the fact that a baby had an army willing to die for it and that this baby was just murdered. I really wanted to dig deeper into this story and figure out how this happed. Maybe later in the game these questions will be answered.Wed, 29 Aug 2018 18:42:59 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6732&iddiary=11949Nier Automata (PS4) - Tue, 28 Aug 2018 20:06:25https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6732During this playthrough I started off by fighting these massive machines. This battle happed right after I was getting along with the nice machines. This does make me question these nice machines again. The battle against the massive machines was surprisingly easy but once they were defeated they created a massive sinkhole in the map. This creation then reveled alien life in the sinkhole! I wasted no time and jumped right in. Once I reached this large control center deep underground I found all the aliens were dead. Then popped up these human looking machines that declared that they killed them, and they wanted the humans next. This fight was more challenging, but the machines got away. These machines that I just got done fighting are just like me so who is to say that my character’s organization won’t turn on the humans. After this battle I decided to finish the side quests that piled up. But it seemed like every side quest that I finished three more would pop up. The command center would constantly be sending me on more and more missions. The characters even mentioned how they were getting tired too and even feeling over worked; I also was feeling this two. When I play video games I enjoy all the extra activities along with the main story. But at a certain point when I was playing I felt overwhelmed. This had to be an emotion the game designers wanted the player to feel. Just like the androids where feeling overworked, so is the player. I personally like this feature because it is a feeling I have never had before in any video game. Video games should be able to mess with our emotions like this because the experience will be more rewarding in the end. (This entry has been edited1 time. The combat is so smooth and fast that every fight I feel like a boss. The gameplay varies a lot at the start switching between flying and ground combat. From what I have played the map is very big and there is enough activity scattered through out the world so I never felt bored. The map itself is sometimes beautiful but then occasionally the world seems bare. I initially played the game on hard difficulty but I could not get past the first fifteen minutes. Every time that you died you had to restart the entire game. I watched the opening cut scene about 9 times. I finally switched to Normal and I could then continue further. Once I got into the meat of the story I was very intrigued. In the open world there where harmless machines scattered throughout the map. I would always kill them because I had to fight them in the opening level and then learned that these machines have taken over the Earth. So I tried to erase this filth from the world. But then I came across this amusement park filled with harmless machines celebrating life and enjoying themselves. It was very weird to see these machines happy. I didn't want to attack them because there were so many of them that they would probably smarm me. But I also didn't want to attack them because it looked like they were enjoying themselves and I did not want to be a jerk. A little farther down the line I find a whole village of harmless machines that where nice to me. I believed it was a trap but also thought that maybe I do not know the whole story. Maybe this whole time I have been killing the wrong things. In the Ethics Reader it talked about how video games try to test our emotional responses. At the start of the game I am fighting the evil machines and told that they are the enemy. Only to find a group of machines having a good time. I didn't want to attack them and I actually questioned if these guys are all that bad. When I later was running through the same area with the harmless scattered machines I felt a little bit of guilt for attacking them earlier and I did not attack them again. So far this game has set up the player to question their actions and beliefs on who the enemy really is.Mon, 27 Aug 2018 19:52:39 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=6732&iddiary=11901
