Lanre's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=262Mario Party (N64) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 02:34:30https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1385So during this game, I'm playing as Luigi, Chris is playing as Peach, T.J. is playing as Donkey Kong, and Mike is playing as Yoshi. We choose the Yoshi Island stage because it has a nice design of an actual beach. We start to play by all landing on blue spaces, which means the mini-game we play for the round will be a free-for-all game. The game involved all of us running away from Boo (the ghost of the Mario series). We all, instead of working together, thought it would be funny to fight along the way so we all ending up losing the round. We continued to play throughout the game and as the map allowed for various outcomes, each turn seemed to be very different. One of the rounds, I landed on a Bowser space. He ended up taking 20 coins away from me. Although I didn't find it fun, my friends did. Also, there were games that it would split us up so it would be games like two players vs two players or one player vs three players. One of the rounds, the game was T.J. and I vs Mike and Chris in Bombsketball. The objective was for a team to score a basket first. You can also steal the ball by punching or jumping on the other players. This was prolly one of the funniest games we played because we were kicking and screaming throughout the whole game. I like games like Mario Party, not only because I won overall at the end, because it creates a good bonding for friends to just have fun. That's exactly what happened between us.Fri, 23 Feb 2007 02:34:30 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1385&iddiary=2933Mario Party (N64) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 02:19:20https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1385Mario Party was the very first game I purchased with my Nintendo 64. The game was very appealing to me as it was the first actual party game I've ever played. The variety this game allows make it a great game to play. Also having three other players alongside you add to the intensity of the game. Even though there are different characters such as the Nintendo favorites, (Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, etc.), each character is no different than another and allows the game to be completely balanced. Some may hate the fact of similarity but I believe it works well with Mario Party. The objective of each game is to collect more Stars and Coins than the other players by winning Mini-games and going through instances throughout the game. Having my friends T.J., Chris, and Mike allow me to have fun playing the game. Its great screaming in their faces after winning one round. I'll write more in-depth later.Fri, 23 Feb 2007 02:19:20 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1385&iddiary=2931Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Wii) - Fri, 09 Feb 2007 02:22:25https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1190After another hour of Marvel Ultimate Alliance, I decided about the gameplay. The Nintendo Wii allows for combos to be much easier by motioning the Wii controller in certain manners. Although it gives a funny and weird impression on observers, my friends and I had fun doing it. Also, certain bosses require the Wii controller to motion in certain manners. One example is when we had to move the controller up, down, left, and right to dodge attacks from the boss. The use of the controller adds variety and fun to Marvel Ultimate Alliance. The variety of characters also adds to the fun factor. There are different kinds of characters to give all players their choice. When we played, I was the Thing because I like playing as a tank. My friend Mike played as Ironman because he likes characters who also possess some range attacks. My other friend Marlon decided to play as Wolverine because he's more of a melee (close range) fighter who attacks faster than a tank such as the Thing. While playing, Marlon would usually with every round with Wolverine using his rage to attack faster and get competitive points for destroying enemies. Although I attack slower than Mike's character, I would beat him because he would die more often than I did. Although the graphics of Marvel Alliance on the Wii isn't as good as the graphics on the PS3 version, it doesn't take any from the fun factor of the game. Overall, Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a great game to play with friends or just to have full-throttle fun.Fri, 09 Feb 2007 02:22:25 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1190&iddiary=2563Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Wii) - Thu, 08 Feb 2007 23:58:47https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1190Marvel Ultimate Alliance has been on my wishlist after playing through the X-men Legends series. Although similiar in the action-rpg elements of X-men Legends, Marvel Ultimate Alliance on the Wii offers new ways to appeal to videogame players. I decided this time to play with friends in the all-new competitive mode in order to add more suspense in our game. The competitive mode keeps the players interested because it honors the best player of the group with more experience and it fun competing against my friends. It was entertaining to people in the other room to hear our screams from the winner of each round in competitive mode. Another benefit of the competitive mode is the extra experience gained can be used to level your own character faster so you can use more stronger supermoves. If variety in characters is what you looking for, Marvel Ultimate Alliance is the perfect game as there are over 20 playable characters with each having different powers. My friends and I change characters each round due to the variety this game allows. Although my readings from comics about Dr.Doom further appeals to me on the storyline of the game, prior knowledge of the Marvel Universe isn't necessary to enjoy this game. The cut scenes drew one of my friends into the game and influenced him to read the Marvel comics to learn more. I haven't played any game like this since the X-men Legends series over a year ago and now this game encouraged me to create an action-rpg on Gamemaker. Well I will report more on the gameplay in my next entry. Hopefully I'll win more rounds so I can pay attention more to the environment while playing instead of thinking only about winning the round.Thu, 08 Feb 2007 23:58:47 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1190&iddiary=2537Super Mario 64 (N64) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 02:32:11https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1006Going through the castle, I was paying attention to the graphics of the game. Although they weren't good as opposed to the current games such as Gears of War, the graphics were great for its time. The game gives a feel of a basic 3d castle and that's enough to draw me into the game instead of turning it down. I was to create a videogame, this game has inspired me. Setting a standard for other games to follow is something that I want to do and I feel Super Mario 64 did just that for 3d games. Although the game isn't perfect, just giving a basic frame for others to expand on really reaches out to me. The freedom this game allows also draws me towards it. While playing, I had fun being able to go to a world and do whatever you want (although you complete tasks for stars). All in all, I liked Super Mario 64 for it's originality and courage for stepping into a type of game that the franchise never was a part of before.Wed, 31 Jan 2007 02:32:11 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1006&iddiary=2168Super Mario 64 (N64) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 02:15:09https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1006In my opinion, Super Mario 64 is one of the best Nintendo 64 games to be created. In the game, you control Mario through various instances in Peach's castle while trying to save her from Bowser. The story is very typical of any Super Mario game but its the other elements in this game that make it stand out from the rest. Nintendo's decision of having Mario enter the 3-D world has what makes this game shine. In the older version of Mario games such as Super Mario Brothers, Mario was only able to jump, run from left and right, and other basic moves in comparison to Super Mario 64. Being able to double jump, turn metal, and swim are just some of the features that brings audience to love Super Mario 64. The stars also added more depth to the game. Usually, after the story of the game is over, the player will quit playing the game; however, being able to search for 120 stars in the game make the player want to continue until he has reached a hundred percent. I decided to play through the beginning of the game again. I went to the first level where you have to fight the big bom-omb at the top of the stage. Talking from when I first played Super Mario 64 years ago, it was fun playing through the game and defeating bosses such as bom-omb because it gave people something different and unique. My next log will talk about roaming around the castle and the graphics of Super Mario 64.Wed, 31 Jan 2007 02:15:09 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1006&iddiary=2164Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 02:00:01https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=762After another match in Super Smash Brothers, I decided to write a little more about the game play during the match. I played at Hyrule Castle, my favorite stage out of the 8 different stages. The reason I like this level because its basically a normal level to play on with the exception of funny tornadoes to surprise everyone with its presence. Although I rarely died, the times I did was usually because of the computer hitting me with an item such as a Sword or pokeball or because I was hit into a tornado. I got 26 knockouts in the round mainly because of Luigi's Super Jump Punch, which I use alot in my tactics. The basic design of the characters and level was unnoticed as I was focused on the fun I was having playing the game. Usually I play Super Smash Bros with friends but I just wanted this time to play and concentrate on how this game makes me feel, which is happy! However, I did play Super Smash Bros at a videogame tournament we held at our school last weekend. I didn't do so well as my friend dominated the competition but I'm looking to train more.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 02:00:01 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=762&iddiary=1694Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 01:48:37https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=762Probably one of my favorite games of all-time would be the Super Smash Brothers series. Although some of my friends believe that Super Smash Brothers Melee is far superior than the original, I still like some of the qualities of the original Super Smash Brothers game. One aspect of the game that made me instantly attracted to the game would be the controls. The controls weren't complex so many people who haven't played a game like Super Smash Brothers can easily get into the game. Super Smash Bros Melee may tend to have more controls but being the first Smash Bros, it was very easy to get into the game. Another reason I liked playing this game because it incorporates many of the characters from other Nintendo games I play such as Mario, Donkey Kong, Link and Samus. Super Smash Brothers was one of the games that made me want an Nintendo 64 instead of going to my friend's house everyday and bugging him to play with me. It was great to go back and play this game again. I decided to play with all items on to add more different outcomes in the game. I picked Luigi as my character, being my favorite videogame character, while choosing characters Mario, Fox, and Pikachu for the computer. As well as items, characters also adds to the different outcomes of each game. Luigi's single Super Jump punch by pressing Up-B near an opponent as opposed to Mario Coin-Uppercut makes him a tad bit different from Mario. However, thats just one of a few differences between Mario and Luigi, making each player have the choice to play different styles. In my next game log, I'll talk more about the gameplay that occured while playing against the computer.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 01:48:37 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=762&iddiary=1692Warcraft III -- Frozen Throne (PC) - Fri, 12 Jan 2007 15:30:46https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=508After another hour of playing DotA on Warcraft III -- Frozen Throne, I tried to look for the cons of the game. One con of DotA falls of how its not very excellent in terms of the graphics and visuals of the game. However like some games such as Pong, complex 3d models aren't necessary to make a game successful to an audience. The gameplay outshadows the mediocre graphics of the game. One thing I would change about the game would to prevent the backdoor cheat of the game. Although every game has cheats and glitches, people who use the online version of DotA tend to use the backdoor cheat to win the game. Having the game fair for all players make the game more fun for me and I usually play with people I know just to make sure I'm always having fun. Although it's not really techinically considering cheating, I would change the ability of being able to backdoor I had the chance. The game I play with my friend Taylor ended of being five players on my team against two players on the opponents team due to three leavers. The game was pretty much won until one of the players on the opposing team backdoored and was able to turn the tide of the game. All in all, the cons of DotA can be simply disregarded due to the gameplay and possible outcomes of the game. Being my first computer game I've invested time in playing, I can say I'm completely satisfied with this game.Fri, 12 Jan 2007 15:30:46 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=508&iddiary=1426Warcraft III -- Frozen Throne (PC) - Fri, 12 Jan 2007 15:25:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=508Warcraft III -- Frozen Throne is one of Blizzard's biggest hits for the computer hardware. All of my friends like Defense of the Ancients, one of the custom-made games in Warcraft III, or also simply known as DotA. I wasn't quite sure why they liked the game but I decided to give it a shot. What first stuck me was the possible outcomes of each game due to the amount of choices each player has. The game consists of ten players (five players versus five players) while each player can choose between the 80 different heroes in the game. Having 80 different heroes along with 4 different spells each hero, different base stats, and the ability to hold 6 different items out of the 98 created items adds to the different possiblities of each game. Due to the fact its an online game, the creator updates the game weekly to add more items and heroes while balancing others to make the game as balanced as possible. When I was playing during this hour, I was using the hero Ogre Magi, whose spells rely heavily on luck. Given the different possiblities because of luck allow the game I had with Ogre Magi to be hard to predict the outcome. Its interesting when the game has many outcomes because you don't know what to expect. All in all, the gameplay is great because it shows whether ur an unstoppable force that needs attention or someone who just needs practice. Now as I look towards another hour of this game, I'm looking to find the cons of this game and hopefully come to an overall conclusion on my thoughts of DotAFri, 12 Jan 2007 15:25:51 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=508&iddiary=1424
