Ramon's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=272Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 05:22:39https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1395So I finished my game playing just now and thoroughly enjoyed the game. I hadn't played the game in a while and really just enjoyed driving everywhere and seeing the incredible scope of this game. This game is huge, it take forever to drive from one end of the map to the other. This game is a milestone in video games and it can be seen by how many open ended games are coming out now. There are so many things that someone can do in this game its incredible. From driving, biking, motorcycling, helicopter flying, plane flying, jetpack flying and those are only the transportations in the game. The development for this game is amazing and it must have taken years to really be able to perfect all of it, which is incredible because us students taking this class can come up with a game in only a matter of a few weeks. Video games are truly amazing in every aspect of them and I for one really enjoy them all.Fri, 23 Feb 2007 05:22:39 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1395&iddiary=2953Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Fri, 23 Feb 2007 05:16:04https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1395So I begin playing the one of the most controversial games ever made and I enjoy the hell out of it. There is no better way of letting out stress than just playing this game for a good hour. But as I keep playing this game it makes me think of how far games have come since they were first created. Pong which is widely considered to be the very first video game made was such a simple game and when someone plays a game like GTA San Andreas its astounding how far video games have come. Pretty much anything the player wants to do in this game is possible. Its no wonder why video games now are being talked about in congress and other high ranking government establishments. The realism that these games bring now makes it no wonder why they are raising alarms in the nations capital. Especially in a game where you can kill pretty much every person you ever see. It comes down though not to congress or the children that play the game but to their parents. It is the parents fault for being irresponsible and not checking to see what types of games their children are playing. Games like GTA San Andreas are supposed to be played only by older people. So I finish this part of the game log by exclaiming that even though if you think about it the ethics and morals of this game are horrible it is extremely fun.Fri, 23 Feb 2007 05:16:04 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1395&iddiary=2950Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 14:09:38https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1051So as I continue to play Super Smash Brothers i realize just how much strategy there is to this game. A lot more than the normal Fighting game. Each character has their own special traits and abilities and depending on how the players play specific characters are better suited for them. For example Donkey Kong is just a huge guy and really strong but pretty slow so quicker characters could hit him many more times than he could hit them, but if he connects with one of his super punches than it's basically lights out for the other characters. Pikachu on the other hand is extremely quick but his attacks don't do that much damage, he is better suited for more experienced players that understand many of the different aspects of the game. Then there are characters that are basically in the middle like Mario and Link. As I continue to play this game I realize that it must have been a pretty big risk for Nintendo to have their flagship characters that have always been more child oriented than anything in a fighting game. This really could have backfired for them, but it turned out to be really good for them and now this game has spawned into a series that will continue to be on future systems.Wed, 31 Jan 2007 14:09:38 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1051&iddiary=2250Super Smash Brothers (N64) - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 14:03:18https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1051Okay so for this gamelog I busted out the old nintendo 64 to play some Super Smash Brothers. This game is a lot different from most other fighting game for a varitey of reasons. First instead of the norm of 1 on 1 fighting this game gives you the option of up to four fighters going at it at once. Also instead of having a normal health bar this game has a percentage for each characters that goes up everytime that the character is hit and instead of dying or passing out you have to throw your opponent off of the level in which everyone is fighting. I remember the first time I played this game and how much different it was for me than any other fighting game I had ever played. I couldn't stop playing it I enjoyed it so much. This game caught on with many people and is one of the most fondly remembered games on the N64. It's still played today by many people. I believe that the replay value for this game is so big because of the originality of it, and also you can beat up all the famous Nintendo characters which is always great.Wed, 31 Jan 2007 14:03:18 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1051&iddiary=2245Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 06:43:48https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=788As I finish my second session for this game I was thinking I remember playing the original Super Mario Bros. on the NES and then playing the third one. It wasn't until years later that I played the second one. I wonder if that was just with me or with a lot of other people also. Was it because the second is just so different from the first that Nintendo was wary of bringing over here or was it that not that many people liked it. I don't think the latter is the case here though as almost everyone I know that has played the second has loved it. The level designs for the second one were equally as great as the ones on the third one in my opinion. Back to the third one though and I remember how much I hate those sand levels. I don't know why I always have, and not just for Mario games. I think I can honestly say that for all games that I play. I hate sand levels.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 06:43:48 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=788&iddiary=1753Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 06:37:42https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=788Super Mario Bros. 3 was one of the first games I ever beat. I remember playing it and just enjoying it so much I didn't want it to end. So now that I'm going back to it for this game log I was really excited to play. After I played for the first 45 minutes I really noticed that the level designs for this game are outstanding, especially the flying pirate ship levels. The way the entire game was designed definitely paved the way for countless of other games after that. In the time I played I only got past the first boss since I had been pretty rusty on my Mario skills. It's been a while since I've played a 2-D side scroller. The graphics ,though I remember them as better when I was young, still aren't too bad. I mean, of course you can't compare them to anything on the playstation 3 or xbox 360 but they definitely get it out done and leave me etremely satisfied. I'm much happier with much better gameplay than flashy graphics with no suvstance.Fri, 19 Jan 2007 06:37:42 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=788&iddiary=1752NBA 2K7 (XBX) - Fri, 12 Jan 2007 04:33:42https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=523 Okay so for my second go round at this game I try my hand with a different team and once again the same trashtalking arises but this time most of it is coming from me, because now I am winning. It's interesting how the roles are reversed this time as I am playing my friend again, clearly neither one of us is really that much better than the other but when your in the lead in this game the person you are beaten really really sucks. So now that I won I feel like I can come to the conclusion that even though at times this competiteveness that comes out in all of us is not very good, it feels damn good when we win and we wouldn't want it any other way.Fri, 12 Jan 2007 04:33:42 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=523&iddiary=1352NBA 2K7 (XBX) - Thu, 11 Jan 2007 22:57:43https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=523Okay so today I was playing NBA 2K7 and I started thinking about something as I was getting my ass handed to me. Why is it that in video games just as in real life when your playing a sport or any sort of multiplayer game people's demeanors change completely. For example with my friends and I, we play NBA 2K7 and Madden and when we play there's nothing but trashtalking coming from both sides, even the losing side. It's amazing to witness, but I have noticed this with almost everyone I know that plays video games or sports recreationally. Is it that nobody can stand losing or that we just want to show our friends that we are better than them at something, even if it is at something as dumb as a fake basketball game. We have to win and we have to win by a lot. Could it be our animalistic instincts coming out in us that one of us has to be the alpha male or female? And as we are winning do we have to rub it in our oppositions face? Well it could be the fact that I lost by 23 points, but I find that this competitiveness that comes out in us during games maybe not alarming but definitely something we should look at and see if it's really healthy to have. Especially if the competitiveness we experience in games starts to follow us into our daily lives when we are not playing. But this tangent is probably me just venting out my frustrations because I'm pissed I lost by 23 points.Thu, 11 Jan 2007 22:57:43 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=523&iddiary=1246
