As the player, you must keep an eye on the shape falling and where it could actually fit in to erase a row. You also have to keep track of the gaps in the rows below you to clear the stacks more efficiently. Adapting to the speed at which the shapes fall from the top increases as the levels get harder. It is challenging and rewarding to achieve this transition between speed levels and keeps the game fresh. Where it could have been better would have been if they designed different backgrounds for the different levels of the game. The multiplayer aspect makes the player improve faster because of the more personal competition between player and player. Playing just to improve the time or the top score is fun. On the other hand playing head to head with an opponent and keeping track of each other's score is more entertaining. It makes you feel cool.Thu, 06 Mar 2008 02:54:26 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3172&iddiary=5961Tetris / Dr. Mario (SNES) - Thu, 06 Mar 2008 02:40:13https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3172"Summary" - Tetris is a puzzle game in which figures fall from the top of the screen and the goal is to stack them correctly. This game is single-player only. "gameplay - Playing this game can become addicting because it is a great and fun game. Even though the game is very easy to play, it is hard to master. The game is interesting because even if you have played the game for more than a couple of times, it is still very fun and doesnt become repetitive. Something that would have added more fun to the game would have been having different backgrounds or phisical levels. The game is fun because even though it is easy to understand and manipulate, it is hard to master. You have to be aware of the distance between the falling pieces and the row of pieces at the bottom. As well as the distance awareness, the player has to adapt to the increasing difficulties of the levels as the game progresses. And keeping track of what pieces that will come next. I didn't play the Dr. Mario, this gamelog is only for the tetris portion. Tetris is a classic game and it is the fact that it is very simple and competing against other by keeping score is something that makes it much more entertaining. The multiplayer value is great in this game and adds for repetitive playing very enjoyable.Thu, 06 Mar 2008 02:40:13 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3172&iddiary=5941Wii Sports (Wii) - Wed, 20 Feb 2008 17:25:26https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2717"Gameplay 2" Wii Sports uses in a great way the functions of the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk. The controllers are very sensitive and allow for very rich gameplay. I liked the precision with which you need the golf ball in terms of strength and angle. This is very innovative and I believe it is the funnest aspect of Wii sports. The crowd cheering for the player is also something that creates a better gameplay. A design elements that make this game good are the cameras. The cameras are placed in good places. The camera allows a broad view, without having tiny characters. The angles are also good because they don't become blocked by objects in the levels during the game. The graphics are very simple but add a fun and a bright mood to the game. The characters and the environments are sketched out in a sloppy way but the levels are very bright and colorful, which attracts players of younger ages. The game creates conflict by making the player control the characters by imitating real movements in sports. And conflict is created in the game by the challenge of defeating the AI or the other player. The game is fun because the rules are simple, yet mastering the movements of the controllers is something not so easy to accomplish.Wed, 20 Feb 2008 17:25:26 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2717&iddiary=5114Wii Sports (Wii) - Wed, 20 Feb 2008 17:10:49https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2717"Summary" Wii Sports is a game with five different playable sports: tennis, baseball, bowling, golf, and boxing. The actions of each playable sport are executed by imitating movements from the real life sport. "Gameplay" Wii sports is a very fun game, mainly because of the multiplayer aspect and the imitation of movements involved in the sports. The multiplayer mode creates a very rich experience because of the competitions. The fact that batting, pitching, boxing, and swinging the racket or the golf stick, involves making the actual movement absorbs the player into the game. The graphics of Wii Sports are very plain, I believe that the creators could have done a bit better job on this part. Nevertheless, to some extent, the game allows customization of the characters this made me feel attached to the character because I wanted him to win and this also absorbed me when I was playing. The game doesn't really have a story, and I would have liked it, or I would have found it more interesting if it did. I believe this could have added more excitement and realism to the gameplay. This game is great because its is directed to a broad audience due to its easy play. (This entry has been edited1 time. This allow the gameplay to stay fresh and fun. The game is also interesting because not only do you have to get through levels to pass the game, but there are specific missions and assignments per level. This creates a more personal relationship with the main character because of the sense of danger that the soldier avatar is placed in. "DESIGN" - Call of Duty, in my opinion, has the best multiplayer action. It has a great variety of maps, each with unique layout. The maps are very well developed and planned out to provide hiding and sniping spots. In the maps, there are heavy machine-guns placed in strategical places, most of the time, where players walk through a lot. The multiplayer for CoD, is also great because of its flexibility. There are a lot of mods for the game which allow for a more realistic and entertaining gameplay. While the mods for the game make it more realistic, they also keep the game fresh because of the different types of goals which can be set for the game. Beside the types of games that CoD has, such as death match, and team death match; there are jumping mods, where one jumps through a series of obstacles to clear the level. As well as the jumping mods, there are mods that allow you to spawn from a parachute, and mods that allow you to place trip mines.Fri, 08 Feb 2008 21:55:19 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2433&iddiary=4671Call of Duty (PC) - Fri, 08 Feb 2008 18:32:55https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2433Gamelog entry #1 "Summary" Call of duty is a first person shooter that takes place during World War II. You fight your way, using allied forces, through widely-known relevant towns during the war. You play as a Russian and an American soldier and use weapons pertaining to each nationality. "Gameplay" Call of duty is one of my favorite games. The game is very fun to play and the story is very well told. The story is put together through loading screens, as the form of soldier diaries; cut scenes, and the through the levels played in the game. The story is rich because it involves playing as an American soldier and as a Russian soldier fighting the Germans during WWII. The story makes the game very interesting because the locations where it develops are easy to recognize, and have big historical impact. The game is very fun and has great flow to it, not to mention the graphics and the realism. The weapons are very realistic and the sounds for each weapon are unique. I like the fact that the settings can be personalized to a great extent, according to the capabilities of the users' computer. The graphics, as well as the audio can vary from very high capacity to the minimum required for the game. The game's difficulties are another factor that make it fun to play. You can play 4 different difficulty levels, from rookie to veteran. Every level of difficulty variates in the amount of enemies that you face and the A.I. of the game. The A.I. is excellent, the enemies react to your presence in a very intelligent way, and the game's challenge is awesome. (This entry has been edited3 times. The factor of the game design that enjoyed the most is the fact that it is the most random game I've ever played. By random I am referring to the fact that you play a plumber fighting his way through levels, confronting turtles and mushrooms, in order to rescue a princess from an evil turtle. The levels and the gameplay are random as well, like the fact that you can swim without running out of air and you die if a fish touches you. The game creates conflict and difficulty by combining enemies and level obstacles. The way that these two are combined to create difficulty is very unique, and allows the levels to get harder as the game progresses. The obstacles of the game, such as jumping gaps and timing a jump to avoid getting burnt by a fireball, get harder and combined with different enemies allow the player to develop a certain skill. This skill includes timing and deducing the best way to beat a certain level. I really liked that the game allows the player to beat the level with both rewards. The rewards of the game are great. They include power ups to make the game easier and more interesting, coins which become extra-lives when accumulated, and the fact that you get to rescue a princess is a pretty big incentive. Each level has a time limit which can be classified both as an obstacle but it also gives you extra points which are considered rewards and stimulation to beat the game.Fri, 25 Jan 2008 22:49:43 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2172&iddiary=4165Super Mario World (SNES) - Fri, 25 Jan 2008 22:20:21https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2172"SUMMARY" - In Super Mario World you play Mario, a plumber who is in a magical world trying to rescue Princess peach who has been kidnapped by evil Bowser. You jump your way through many levels fighting against many creatures such as winged turtles and mushrooms. The object of the game is to pass every level and defeat the bosses of every section of the game, which ultimately leads you to fighting Bowser and rescuing Princess Peach. "Gameplay" - The gameplay of Super Mario World is great and kept me very entertained throughout the whole game. The villains in the game are very fun and make the game challenging. The game is directed to a very broad audience because of its simplicity and nonviolent way of defeating the enemies. Their is a wide range of enemies such as turtles, mushrooms, characterized bullets, even football players. This diversity of enemies keeps the game fresh and fun throughout the whole game. The abilities Mario has to defeat the enemies and get through levels are fun and unique. My personal favorite is the feather which lets you speed up and fly through a part of a level. Getting power-ups is a great way to keep the player interested, specially when they are so different. The game is pretty linear but the dynamics of the game allow you to decide whether you want to jump and avoid an enemy, jump and smash him, kill him by throwing a fireball at him, or do a spin-jump on him. The level design is unique. Every level in the game is different in several ways. The backgrounds and sceneries of the levels are all different, as well as the enemies you encounter in a specific level. As the game progresses you gain certain skill from playing because the levels become more and more difficult. The enemies get harder as well as the obstacles of the level itself. This is achieved by creating bigger gaps, trickier traps, and more spikes and fire.Fri, 25 Jan 2008 22:20:21 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2172&iddiary=4142Super Mario 2 - Yoshi's Island (SNES) - Sat, 12 Jan 2008 19:45:07https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1626Gamelog #1 "SUMMARY" - Mario and his twin, Luigi are being delivered by the stork to their parents when one of Magikoopa's creatures tries to kidnap them. Mario lands in an island full of dinosaurs (yoshis) and Luigi is held captive by Magikoopa. You play as different Yoshis carrying Mario through different levels of the game, fighting Magikoopa's creatures and getting through obstacles. The goal of the game is to beat all levels which will lead to rescuing Luigi and bringing him and his twin, Mario, to their parents. "Gameplay" - Playing Super Mario 2 is a great experience. The levels of the game are very colorful and the graphics are great (considering the low graphics capability of the Super Nintendo console). The levels of the game are full of obstacles and enemies, which creates difficulty and excitement when trying to beat each area. Enemies keep getting bigger and badder throughout the game and the levels become more complex. Another factor that keeps the game fresh and interesting are boss battles which are all different and get more difficult as the game progresses. The game and the level layout are simple, but the character (Yoshi) has many functions and abilities. This kept me entertained. Using Yoshi's many abilities, such as eating enemies and creating eggs out of them which can be used as projectiles, gives the player a lot of control of the game. The fact that Yoshi has many functions in the game is excellent because it makes getting through a level unique every time. The levels are full of life and every level is different. Traveling through caves, jungles, forests, and the sea makes every level unique and fun. The music in the game is very cheerful. And gathering coins, flowers and stars to get lives is very fun. As well as the bonus challenges and puzzles found throughout the levels. Gamelog #2 "Gameplay" After playing the game for the second 45 min. interval I noticed the diversity of the levels and obstacles. The levels of the game vary a lot in the types of adversaries and the difficulty of physical obstacles presented. Another factor that keeps the levels fresh is the increasing difficulty to find hidden puzzles. As well as the difficulty of the challenges. After playing for the first 45 I came to know other abilities that Yoshi has. As the game progresses the story of the game begins to unfold and lets the player understand what is going on. Besides the very repetitive music, I believe that the game is great and is fun throughout all levels. "Design" The design of the game was very interesting. Compared to other Mario Bro's games, Yoshi's Island is very colorful and the mood of the game is gleeful rather than feeling like in a timed race to rescue the princess. The levels are pictured in color-pencil painted sceneries. Most of the enemies even appear friendly (enemy flowers). As well as new design to the levels, compared to previous Mario games, Super Mario 2 kept many aspects of the others such as the green tunnels, and the carnivorous plants. The level design keeps the players interested because of the variations of levels. There are many different levels, each one structured differently. This allows for a sense of freshness in the game after every level; Yoshi travels through the caves, the underground, in the jungle and in the desert. The enemies presented in every level and the increasing difficulty for defeating them are great in making every level unique. Many times the enemies aren't tough but the structure of the level works with the interaction of the creatures in the game which creates inconvenient pathways for the player. The actual length of each level is really short but the levels are arranged in a great way. This makes the levels increase in difficulty because of the more enemies and traps placed in the level.
