vincent89simi's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=585Gears of War (360) - Thu, 06 Mar 2008 01:51:42https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3145--Second Entry-- -GamePlay For my second session, I kept playing on co-op mode with my friend. There were several bosses until the end. Many of those bosses required the Hammer of Dawn to kill them. For example, Bersekers, the female drones who can’t see, but uses smell and sound to kill humans, are much larger and stronger than average drones. We had to force her to go outside and use the Hammer of Dawn. There were several new types of the Locust Horde as we played more. One of them, that were very interesting, was kryll. They look like birds. At night, they could out from the ground and kill anything including their own locust units and humans that are in darkness. Also you can’t be revived by other soldiers after getting attacked by kryll. There were also Boomers which are bigger drones that shoots rocket launchers, Dark Wretchers which explodes after getting killed, and Theron guards which are sort of the elite drones that are stronger, smarter, and faster than average drones and use the torque bow which can kill you with one hit. The last mission of the game was to send the “Lightmass Bomb” to the heart of the Locust Horde. We started in the train with bombs. We had to kill many Dark Wetchers, drones, a Berseker and Reavers which are sort of flying machines for the Locust Horde. At the end, we faced the General RAAM. He was surrounded by kryll. He could be only killed when kryll were sent to attack us. It was much harder than other bosses, because he had a lot of health. And we move around to dodge him, but we were killed by kryll, because we had to move into darkness. At the end, we managed to kill him and show the cut scene of a Locust, perhaps the Locust Queen, saying that war will continue. -GameDesign There were a lot of good parts and some bad parts in this game. I like many new features in this game that other shooting games don’t have. Features like covering and the Crimson Omen life system made this game much easier but also exciting. Because of those two features, it was much easier to survive. I also liked kyrll, because they gave more difficulty to game and also more excitement. The part that I don’t like about this game was that everything was too dark. It was almost impossible to see the Locust Horde units without getting shot at first. Also I hope there were more kinds of enemy units. Most of battles were very similar and easy. Yet, I think this was one of the best games that I have ever played in my life. And I think there will be more new features in the second one.Thu, 06 Mar 2008 01:51:42 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3145&iddiary=5850Gears of War (360) - Thu, 06 Mar 2008 01:50:58https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3145--First Entry-- -Summary Gears of War is tactical third-person shooting game. The game takes place on planet Sera, where humans inhabited. After war between several human countries ended, the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) was formed. The war ended on “Emergence Day”, when Locust Horde came out from underneath of major human cities by using tunnels. Soon, Locust Horde took control of most of human urban, military, and manufacturing centers. The player plays as Marcus Fenix, a former prisoner, to get the “resonator” which maps the Locust tunnels and to deploy the “Lightmass Bomb” which will destroy the heart of the Locust Horde. -GamePlay For my first session, I played it on co-op mode with my friend. I liked the fact that there were many types of weapons in this game. You first start with a pistol, a rifle, a shotgun, and two smoke grenades, but throughout the gameplay you can obtain a sniper, a rocket launcher, frag grenades, Torque Bow, and the “Hammer of Dawn”, an orbital satellite laser gun which can be only used outside. I haven’t played a shooting game with console before, so it was so hard for me to move and aim in the beginning. But soon I got used to it, it became really easy. One other feature that I wasn’t used to was the hiding and standing behind the wall. Also because it uses same button as running, sometimes it slowed me down. But I found out that it was really important in this game and can’t beat the game without it, so I started using it a lot Beginning of the game was fairly easy for me. There were only two kinds of the Locust units; Drones which shoot and Wretchers that come from ground or ceiling to attack from close range. It was easy to kill the Drones because they didn’t have very good accuracy and they easily died. Wretchers were hard to kill because they move fast, but they can be easily killed by hitting them with shotgun or sniper or using the chainsaw from the rifle. Another feature that I liked was the life system. Unlike other shooting games, which have the health bar, Gears of War uses the Crimson Omen, a circle shaped icon that become brighter when you get hit. Because I could move and hide until it becomes normal, I died less that I probably would have if it had the health bar system. Also even I die, my friend could revive me the most of time.Thu, 06 Mar 2008 01:50:58 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3145&iddiary=5848Soul Calibur III (PS2) - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 02:27:09https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2886Second Entry GamePlay: For the second 45 minutes, I played in the World Competition in a single player mode. In this, I could enter various tournaments and aim to become the best fighter in the world. I joined the tournament and my goal was to win 12 consecutive tournaments. I played as Taki, a fictional Japanese figher. Unlike the battles in the storyline one, in the battles in the tournament, I had to beat one character three times in order to advance to next round. But most of the battles were similar and I got easily bored. I also played in the league. In the league, there were 8 characters. You played each 7 other players. But it also got boring because all the games were very similar. Design: I think there are some good parts and bad parts. It was very exciting in the beginning. I liked the part where I could choose my own weapons. And everyone had different style of fighting skills. The part that I didn't like about this game was that every battle is very similiar. After over few dozens of battles, I got easily bored. And it was really hard to attack in the beginning. It would have been much better, if it had some sort of tutorial that teaches combonations of attack. It was really hard to block too, because in the most of games, you just block by pressing back buttom, but in this game there was another button. My general opinion about this game was that it should have made many other features, because most of battles were very similar and it became really boring easily.Thu, 21 Feb 2008 02:27:09 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2886&iddiary=5409Soul Calibur III (PS2) - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 02:16:06https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2886First Entry Summary: Soul Calibur III is a fighting game. It is one of the Soul series of fighting games made by Namco. Players must kill other character or push him/her out of the ring in order to win the battle. The storyline revolves around the evil sword Soul Edge. GamePlay: This was the first time I've every played the Soul series, but it was a lot like Tekken series, which I am a big fan of, because both were made by Namco. In my first 45 minutes, I played the Tales of Souls in a single mode. In the Tales of Soul, players could play through each character's unique story. I played as Yun-Seong. When I selected him, then I could select a weapon. He was a fictional Korean character. He was searching for the Sword of Salvation which was also rumored to be a cursed sword. Then he met a boy who told him about the cursed sword which is the Soul Edge and decided to look for it. Then you get to fight with other characters. The battle is 1vs1. I had to either beat down your opponent or push him/her out of the ring. First few characters that I fought were easy. That it became harder and harder. Everytime I beat an opponent, It tells you another story. I could punch, kick, attack with a weapon of your choice, or grab you opponent.Thu, 21 Feb 2008 02:16:06 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2886&iddiary=5391New Super Mario Brothers (DS) - Fri, 08 Feb 2008 22:38:02https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2492Entry #2 GamePlay In my second session, I played the rest of worlds to the eighth world. For some reason, I could just skip the fourth and seventh world. I was not sure how I could play those worlds. I was really dissapointed that I couldn't play those worlds, because every world have different themes and i was wondering what themes that other two worlds have. The more I advanced, the harder the levels became. I had to replay several levels multiple times before I was able to beat them. The hard part of the game wasn't the monsters that I had to kill, but the platforms and obsticles that i had to dodge and jump around. I kept falling down into the magma and off the cliff. When I got to the eighth world, I was dissapointed that there were only five levels. But later i found out that the last castle was actually small boss and there were another seven or eight more levels. GameDesign I think there are some good parts and bad parts in this game. I like the fact that it was so similar to the Super Mario Brothers 3, because it was one of my favortie games. It also had more new features and better graphics than the Super Mario Brothers 3. The part that I didn't like about this game was that It didn't have many kinds of new monsters. In Super Mario Brothers 3, they had five or six new monsters each time you get to a new world. But in this game, they had different kinds of background, but most of monsters were same. This game could have been better if they had more different themes for each worlds. Also I was dissapointed that I couldn't go to the fourth and seventh worlds.Fri, 08 Feb 2008 22:38:02 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2492&iddiary=4689New Super Mario Brothers (DS) - Fri, 08 Feb 2008 22:36:35https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2492Entry #1 Summary New Super Mario Brothers is a side-scrolling platforming video game for the Nintendo DS. You play as Mario who is on a mission to save Princess Peach from evil arch enemies, in this case Koopa. To advance in this game you must complete a series of levels (about 10) to complete each world. There are 8 worlds in total, your goal is to reach the 8th world to save Princess Peach. GamePlay In my first session, I played in first and second world. It was similar to Super Mario Brothers 3 except for several different things. This Mario included a super mushroom, blue mushroom, and blue turtle shell which all serve as "power-ups." First two worlds were fairly easy. A super mushroom makes you huge so that you can become almost invincible, there is no way you could die except by falling. Blue mushrooms made you very tiny so that could access secret pipes. Blue turtle shells make you become a turtle shell so you can kill anyone, but it was really hard to control because you can only jump. It was very easy to get alot of lives, so after finishing two worlds I had about 30 lives. There were also alot of secrect paths that served as shortcuts where I can skip alot of levels without having to play them. In every world, there were one or two mini-bosses and a final boss. The way i could kill them was similar to the one from super mario brothers 1 and super mario brothers 3. I could kill them by either pressing a button to cut the bridge or kill them by hitting them from top three times.Fri, 08 Feb 2008 22:36:35 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2492&iddiary=4688StarCraft: Brood War (PC) - Tue, 15 Jan 2008 02:45:38https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1776--Second Session-- -GamePlay For my second session, I played on BattleNet where people from all over the world play together. It is a really easy to meet other players on Battle.Net. When people play as a team, they must talk to each other and cooperate in order to fight their opponent efficiently. Because teamwork is so important, people practice and talk about the game a lot in the general chatting box. After playing an hour more, I realized that this game is very fast paced when playing against other people. Most of people know how to play the game but they win by making their buildings and units fast and controlling their units well. I had to concentrate on the game in order to beat the other person. Once I stopped paying attention to the game for a few minutes, my opponent easily built more buildings and units. It was also hard to control a lot of units at the same time. So when I wasn’t paying attention it was easy to lose my units. It was still very fun. Every time I played, I could build in different ways. In fact, I had to, because my opponent also played differently every game. -Design I think there are some good parts and bad parts. I think this game is the most simple and basic real-time strategy computer game. But it’s very interesting and easy to learn. It’s been 10 years but there are still thousands of players who are playing on Battle.Net, so you can easily enjoy playing against other players. And it also forces players to interact each other, because it is very important to cooperate with other teammates. It also gives full control to players so that they can play in different ways every game. The best part of this game is that the outcome of every game is different, because players have full control of the game and make decisions. There are several bad parts in the game. There are several bugs in the game, which people sometimes use to cheat against other players. Although playing against other players is the fun part, there are less and less players each day, so it’s hard to get the game you want. Also some people including myself argue that Terran is much better than other races, so the game is not balanced.Tue, 15 Jan 2008 02:45:38 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1776&iddiary=3774StarCraft: Brood War (PC) - Mon, 14 Jan 2008 02:40:52https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1776GamePlay After playing an hour more, I realized that this game is very fast pace. In StarCraft: Brood War, you control one of three galactic species, which are Terran, Protoss, and Zerg. You collect minerals and gases to build various kinds of buildings and units to destroy your opponents before they kill you. You can play against computers or play against other people on Battle.Net. -GamePlay For my first session, I tried the Protoss campaign. I’ve been playing StarCraft for more than 7 years, but it was really the first time I tried the campaign. In the Protoss campaign, I played as an executer of the remaining Protoss forces which were destroyed in the original starcraft who try to reunite people and save them from Zerg. In the beginning it’s very simple and easy, but as I played more and more campaigns it got much harder. The campaign is very simple and easy and helps players to understand races very easily. Each race has one unit that makes buildings. They also collect minerals and gases. As you build more buildings, you can get new stronger units. You can also upgrade in some buildings to increase your unit’s attack, defense, or speed. Some units also can do magic such as cloaking, mind-controlling, or using storms. I thought that playing the computer was very easy. I didn’t really have to pay attention to the game in order to beat the campaign. But sometimes, they have a few surprise attacks which killed a lot of my units, so I had to pay attention to finish the game fast. (This entry has been edited1 time.
