Design: The style of the game would suggest a San Andreas “image” or should I say a stereotype embedded in the video game. The storyline of the game was not necessarily coherent. Carls Johnson comes home to San Andreas finding his family and friends ruined and he even gets convicted of homicide. He sets on this long “courageous journey” to save his family ands friends. The storyline is an embedded narrative, but after much interaction with the game, I found that the emergent narrative was nothing more than just thugs with flashy cars with a back round of pimps and street races. Although I find this entertaining, I also find it very autotelic. The idea of integrating the world of the game into reality would be very scary. It is possible it might make younger players presume fabricated identities of race and culture. What seduced me into the game were definitely the shiny cars. The visuals are definitely pleasing and the more the game levels progress, the more the complex visuals emerge. The creativity involved with this game is undeniable. The planetoids still intrigue me and the intricate contrast of colors are always fun. The Wii controller is really advanced. Design: The levels of the games are all very different from one another, which creates a diverse range of visuals for the player. The storyline is not that interesting, but the quality and creativity make up for it. The storyline and the design both integrate very well and stay consistent as the game progresses toward the goal. The short term goals are reaching the certain levels and the long term goal is saving the princess from Bowser. I am hoping the end will be satisfying considering that the story is so overdone. I understand that a criminal record and economic deprivation probably does exist in San Andreas, but recognizing those social, cultural and political issues and exploiting it into the mainstream of video games is just another illusion of representation in which it limits us from political awareness. Design: Besides the internal issues of this particular game, the visuals were pretty good. The 3-D effect made it more interesting; there were ramps and other things you could drive off of. There was an interesting back round in regards to the people presented, stores and other compartments. The atmosphere (with the San Andreas community functioning) made me more involved and engulfed with the game. The community and the setting incorporated the criminal identity, which made me fit into my character comfortably. I liked that I could make my own choices of what mission I would take and how my relationships with other criminals would change due to those choices. The back round music was horrible. The typical mainstream music made me want to stop finishing the games. The colorful galaxies make the game a delightful fantasy. Mario is the main player who tries to rescue the princess from the evil Bowser. The storyline of Mario has not obviously changed. It was interesting to explore the galaxies and planets. In order to move from galaxy to galaxy, the power stars were the sources of energy that needed to be caught regularly. Gameplay: I was not expecting this when I began to play the game. The game starts at a festival where Bowser invades and takes the princess's castle with her in it. Mario starts off in the middle of space ready to begin the journey. The Wii remote took awhile to get used to, but overtime it became really fun. The variety of color and the overwhelming planetoids made the game so much more than what it was. The traveling through planetoids was basically reaching the objective for each level. The gravity on some of the planetoids was a little confusing sometimes. Collecting stars were my favorite thing because they were so sparkly and so addicting. The amount of stars from old levels began to open up new levels that definitely got more complex. In one of the levels, I had to surf which was a little difficult, but once I got the hang of it, it was fun. It was difficult not to enjoy the game.
