liddell0wnZ's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=604Pokemon Pearl (DS) - Thu, 06 Mar 2008 12:07:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3198Gamelog #2 Gameplay The second half of gameplay actually was more exciting than the first half. The first half of the game was pretty much adjusting to the new controls and capabilities, but the second half was using all of my prior and current knowledge of the game and using it to defeat gym leaders, collect new Pokemon, and defeat several new and challenging foes. The game was very fun to play because it offered surprise and new challenges each time I picked up my DS. The game was very interesting to play because I got to see how the Pokemon game series has changed and developed within a decade's time. This game was not only fun to play independently but it was also fun playing with others who also own the game. Trading and battling with others has been a a quality of the Pokemon series that has existed since he Red and Blue Versions and has been enjoyed by fans ever since. My friend and I would frequently trade with each other and eventually duke it out to see which trainer is the superior. The Pokemon game series encourages players to interact with each other to further enhance the interactive experience of gameplay. Design One of the innovative elements that stood out to me the most was during gameplay the background would change from day to night based on what time the in-game clock (the Poketech)is programmed at. For example if the in-game clock said it was 8am then in the Pokemon world it would be sunny, and if it read 11pm the Pokemon world would be dark. The Poketech device also included a calculator, a map, a counter, a wireless link up search, and drawing pad. Another thing I noticed was the attention to detail each Pokemon seemingly had. In the battle sequences it the Pokemon are crisp, clear, and are abundant with colors. In the Red and Blue Version not only was there no color but the quality of the Pokemon sprites was pretty crappy. The Pokemon Diamond and Pearl installations pretty much cleared up all of the shaky graphic elements the Red and Blue versions created, and introduced new crisper graphics that are more aesthetically pleasing. From purely a designer's outlook the game layout was very similar to the older games, but made significant improvements in the graphics that made the game the success it is todayThu, 06 Mar 2008 12:07:51 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3198&iddiary=6020Pokemon Pearl (DS) - Thu, 06 Mar 2008 11:36:33https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3198Gamelog #1 Summary Pokemon Pearl is the latest installation in the Pokemon hand held game series. The goals in the game is the same as those before it, collect all eight badges by defeating all eight gym leaders, collect as many Pokemon as you can, and become the greatest Pokemon trainer in the world. This game retains several of its old qualities such as: interactive characters, fun battle sequences, and of course legendary Pokemon to capture. It also has many new graphically enhanced options such as: mobile Pokemon sprites, fun new mini-games, and many other things the player has at his or her disposal. Pokemon Pearl is a very enjoyable game and is perhaps (along with Pokemon Diamond) the best game out of the entire Pokemon series. Gameplay When I was younger I was a very avid fan of the Pokemon franchise. I played the games, bought the merchandise, and lived the lifestyle of a Pokemon fan. However now I guess you could say I'm not as huge a fan as I used to be. However when the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl came out I was curious as to how much better the new 2007 version of the Pokemon hand held game was compared to a version that came out nearly 10 years ago. I found out after 2 hours of straight gameplay that this game was significantly better than the older Red and Blue Versions. The graphics were crisper, the colors were very abundant and vibrant, and battle sequences were a lot more intense. I felt really happy when I played this game. It brought back old memories from the glory days of the Pokemon Franchise when I spent countless hours in front of my old Game Boy color. I felt felt pretty much the same way I did when I first started getting in to the Pokemon hype, but since it implemented new graphic and in-game features I was able to consistently have fun, from the beginning of the game to the very end.Thu, 06 Mar 2008 11:36:33 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3198&iddiary=6015Super Mario 64 (N64) - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 23:47:19https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2923Gamelog entry #2 Gameplay The second half of playing this game was actually more fun then the first half. The missions are pretty similar but they get a whole lot harder. Even though it got somewhat frustrating at times, the game was still really fun. In fact I enjoyed this game so much I saw myself playing 2-3 hours straight rather than the preferred 45 minute period. The harder the levels got the more you needed to invest your mind into several problem solving skills such conquering larger foes, jumping over each platform as an obstacle course, and timing your jump just right so you could very last star. Even though the storyline wasn't very complex, as it follows the typical Mario saves Peach storyline, there were many in-game options that made the game hard to turn off. People who watched me play the game pretty much played the game with me. Every fault or success the people watching me were pretty much 100% around me. Most people were shouting commands such as "jump on this" or "step on that", but the energy was very much there. There was a lot of social interactions between myself and the friends watching, but it was fun because it brought back the old Nintendo days. It's somewhat easier to play when you don't have a bunch of people watching you play, but it's pretty interesting to see how so many people can be fixated on the success or failure of a digital character. Design The biggest innovative element this game uses is of course the use of a digital Mario functioning in a digital world for the first time. Instead of simply jumping and shooting fireballs, now Mario can flip, hurdle, punch, and kick his way through his enemies. Being able to control a 3-D Mario is extremely fun because he can interact with more options in his world and you have more room to pull off difficult maneuvers. This game was definitely the best Mario game and most of its success should be attributed to the use of 3-D graphics. One of the things I would add to the game itself to make it more enjoyable would be to implement more Mario characters from previous games. Even though Yoshi did make a brief appearance in the game, it could've been very interesting to see how it would be to control Yoshi as an alternate character. When the Nintendo DS came out, a new version Super Mario 64 was made for the new portable system. What the new game did was implement the ability to control other characters such as Yoshi and Luigi. I was really excited about this game and found that it was just as fun maybe even a little more fun than the original. The only problem I had with the original game was that it didn't have enough characters to control, however the release of the DS version fixed that problem. I can say with confidence that it is definitely one of the best games ever made for the Nintendo or any other system for that matter.Thu, 21 Feb 2008 23:47:19 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2923&iddiary=5517Super Mario 64 (N64) - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 20:26:52https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2923Gamelog entry #1 Summary Super Mario 64 follows Mario yet again as he seeks to rescue his precious Princess Peach from the evil lizard King Bowser. This game captures the essence of all of the Mario games, and with more developed graphics this game is a must have for all Mario fans out there. Gameplay I didn't know what to expect from this game when I first started to play it. I knew that several themes from previous Mario games would be reprized but I didn't know how well that would work out. When I popped in the game about 45 minutes into game play I got the hang of Mario's acrobatic maneuvers and captures star after star after star. The game was really exciting as each star had a difficult task behind it. The quality I liked best about the first half of game play was seeing how Mario had many new abilities, and how those abilities showcase how much Mario has evolved in the past several years. In the first Mario games Mario's abilities were pretty standard and weren't too exciting to watch. However in Super Mario 64 Mario can jump, dive, flip, hop, and do all sorts of cool new moves. Even though he has a new set of moves he still rocks the same classic red plumber uniform and has to faces similar enemies he has in past games. I was consistently happy playing this game because of all the classic Mario elements it had and all the new unique qualities it created for itself. The game was very interesting and fun to play because it is the first Mario-based game where you get to control a 3-D Mario in a 3-D world which leaves seemingly limitless options to pursue.Thu, 21 Feb 2008 20:26:52 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2923&iddiary=5512Tekken Tag Tournament (PS2) - Fri, 08 Feb 2008 22:32:20https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2469Gamelog #2 Gameplay The game was very engaging and exciting to play, and was even more fun to play with a bunch of friends. I don't have much more to say about the entertainment value of the game because it was very much there. Through and through I enjoyed this game, even though it got a bit harder as the levels progressed. Tekken Tag Tournament continued Tekken's legacy as being one of the best fighting series out there today. Me as a martial artist found this game most fun because of the diversity of fighters at your disposal. From kung fu to wrestling, Tekken Tag Tournament has a whole lot to offer. It's fun playing 1 player or with another person, either way this game guarantees a good time. Design A very fine quality that appealed most to me in this game was the characters and background designs. The different levels made the fights more exciting and unpredictable. The attire worn by the fighters were very innovative and meshed well with each fighter's respective martial art style. Each character made the game what it is, a tough, challenging game that keeps you engaged throughout. The challenging aspect of the game is another key aspect to the game's success and popularity. Switching between fighters makes the game challenging because each time a fighter switched out you were forced to take on a fresh fighter. Another challenging aspect the game offered was the ability to master the combos of each fighter. Each fighter had his or her own powerful striking combo that could decide the fate of a match.Fri, 08 Feb 2008 22:32:20 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2469&iddiary=4686Tekken Tag Tournament (PS2) - Fri, 08 Feb 2008 22:15:36https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2469Gamelog #1 Summary Tekken Tag Tournament is a 1-2 player fighting game that involves two fighters tagging each other in and out and engaging in an all out brawl. Different styles of martial arts such as capoiera, kung fu, and karate are implemented giving the player various styles to pick from. This high-flying, action-packed game is provides hours of fun and excitement and is a must play for those who enjoy fighting games. Gameplay I've been a Tekken fan since the second game, and since then each sequel has been very enjoyable to play. However Tekken Tag Tournament put a bit of a spin on a classic game by adding the partner component. Fortunately that aspect of the game is what makes it so fun to play. Being able to use two fighters with two different styles made me excited as each character has his own tricks and strikes to do serious damage on the opposing player. The game was very interesting to play because each fighter practiced a different martial art. There were so many different fighters to choose from and each one of them made the game more exciting with their flashy and unique moves. I found myself after several hours of playing the game happy and content as I was when I began playing the game. This is definitely one of the best fighting games for the Ps2 and a must have for fans of the Tekken series.Fri, 08 Feb 2008 22:15:36 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2469&iddiary=4678Wii Play (Wii) - Fri, 25 Jan 2008 23:30:55https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2119GAMELOG #2 Gameplay The first half was pretty much the same and the second half. The games got more repetitive, boring, and more frustrating. Wii Play could be acknowledged as a Wii Sports sequel because of their similar graphics, but the games are not nearly as fun. I found myself playing billiards and ping pong over and over again because the other games that involve Mii characters were too lackluster and similar. Wii Play was worth it because of the extra controller, but the game itself was nothing more than a demo game. I can't really say much more without repeating myself because the gameplay was that drawn out and tiresome. The game initially had that warm Wii Sports feeling but lost it soon after I tried each game multiple times. This game should be played with another person, otherwise you'll grow weary of it quickly. Design The graphics were pretty much the same as Wii Sports, but once again the games not nearly as fun. The games that graphically stood out the most to me were the billiards and the air hockey. The billiard balls the cue were pretty crisp in detail and the air hockey had very vibrant colors and trippy sounds. There wasn't a whole lot of attention to detail, but it didn't belittle the gameplay value whatsoever. After playing the game for awhile the graphics made me grow weary and made me want to play something that's physically more appeasing to the human eye such as Resident Evil or Call of Duty 4. Of course Wii Play is always fun for people who don't own a Wii, but for hardcore gamers graphically and in terms of gampe play it would not be the right game for them. For graphics I give Wii Play 4/10 just because there wasn't a whole lot of detail utilized. Fri, 25 Jan 2008 23:30:55 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2119&iddiary=4190Wii Play (Wii) - Fri, 25 Jan 2008 17:19:47https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2119GAMELOG #1 Summary Wii Play is a 1-2 player game that offers a variety of games to play, similar to that of Wii Sports. Games included in Wii Play are: Billiards, Duck Hunt, Air Hockey, Ping Pong, and many others. This game, like Wii Sports, was intended to get the player more used to the unique controls of the Wii Mote. The bonus that comes with the game is an extra Wii Mote, which comes in handy if you're trying to play with a friend. Gameplay I purchased this game a few days ago, mostly because it came with an extra controller, the game itself was just a nice little accessory. I do research when I purchase games, and many of the reviews I read for Wii Play gave the game a pretty sub par rating, but still I was optimistic. When I first started playing the game I noticed a feature similar to that of Wii Sports in that the Mii characters are utilized once again, which I thought was a really nice touch. However when it comes to video games, it takes more than just cute little characters to win me over. I started out playing the billiards game, which started out pretty much with me missing every single shot, but once I got used to the controls the game was much easier. Satisfied with the first game I decided to try Air Hockey. The cool luminescent graphics were physically appeasing, but the game itself was so so, and didn't capture the the feeling of real air hockey. So after trying out two games, one being fun and the other being...not so fun, I thought I should give Ping Pong a try. Once again the game was so so, and couldn't capture the true feel of the real-life game. Wii Play is a game more suited for two people for friendly competition, but when it came to single play it got tiring really fast.Fri, 25 Jan 2008 17:19:47 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2119&iddiary=4065Resident Evil 4 (Wii) - Mon, 14 Jan 2008 01:16:35https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1745Summary The game Resident Evil 4 for the Nintendo Wii follows the story of U.S. Agent Leon Kennedy as he enters a strange village full of murderous individuals who appear to be a part of a cult-like organization. The objective of the game is to travel through this corrupt little village and rescue the President's daughter. Unfortunately in order to do that Leon must fend off the village full of bloodthirsty psychopaths using various types of firearms explosives. Resident Evil 4 chronicles Leon's dangerous journey as he meets enemies, allies, and an uncertain future. Gameplay I purchased this game a couple days ago after hearing all of the praise it has received by several video game websites. I, not being a particular fan of horror games, was a bit hesitant when making the decision to buy it just because I was worried that it might not be my type of game. Little did I know this game was right up my alley. Sure the grotesque people and the fountains of blood was a bit unsettling at first, however there was something satisfying about blasting the heads off of sick, twisted weirdos trying to kill me. The rush of excitement you get from this game is unlike any other. Most of the time I found myself running away from the scary people, but when it came to action and the sick array of guns I had at my disposal, I was invincible. Because I've never played a Resident Evil game prior to this one it was somewhat difficult to master the controls, but after getting chainsawed a couple times I was beginning to hone my skill. What sets this version of Resident Evil 4 for the Wii apart from other versions of the game (i.e.: PS2 and GameCube) is the feel of interaction with the Wii mote. In the other versions of Resident Evil 4 one would just moving a joy stick around, but with the Wii version I found myself bobbing, weaving, and using my skilled aiming to succeed in the game. The Wii's usage of game engagement made this game more enjoyable and incredible to play. Gameplay The second half of gameplay just continued to get more and more difficult. But as the difficulty accelerated, the game became more and more enjoyable. Because I mastered the basic skills in the first hour of gameplay, every mission became less nerve-racking to play. With each passing level the hoards of dangerous people became more difficult to neutralize, however that very quality is what makes this game so great. Even though the enemies grew rapidly and became generally more difficult to destroy, my new myriad of guns took care of that problem quite nicely. After fending off an entire village full of people with a simple handgun, a friendly merchant man kindly sold me more powerful guns ranging from rifles to semi-automatic shotguns. The growing array of enemies got scarier and scarier but my growing array of guns and hand grenades took care of them quite nicely. Though I'm still at an early stage of the game I think it is safe to say this is one of the most action-packed and best all-around games out for the Nintendo Wii. Design One of the key elements that made this game the masterpiece it is was the graphic detail within this digital land. The horror-movie feeling is captured by the tall leafless trees, the old and eerie-looking buildings, and of course the hideous looking enemies. One particular aspect of the village people I liked was that heartless, cold, dead look that is present in their eyes. Those horrific eyes made them look less human and more like a community of corrupt and merciless monsters. The physical beauty of this game lies in the gloominess and depressed state the village seemingly emanates. The challenge of a game is one of the most appealing aspects of a good video game. Resident Evil 4 offers a variety of missions that consistently challenge the player to surpass new heights. For example one of the missions includes a sequence when you must press certain buttons to evade an oncoming boulder. Other levels require the player to use his or her skilled marksmanship to ascend to other locations. The challenges continue to get more and more fun because of the unpredictability and levels of engagement Resident Evil 4 has to offer.Mon, 14 Jan 2008 01:16:35 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1745&iddiary=3483
