Getting high scores and lots of points is a big deal in this game, so you want to land all the attempted tricks, especially if the event is timed and allows less time to get high scores. DESIGN I think this game does a good job of creating worlds where skateboarders are free to skate and not be ticketed or punished by law for vandalizing rails or ledges. Our culture and society views skateboarding as sort of a rebellious act and isn’t permitted in many places, so it is fun to play in this game where skateboarding is taken to the extreme and allows players to do big tricks anywhere. Each time the skater messes up on a trick blood splatters as he hits the ground. This makes it seem more realistic and reminds people of the danger of skating. A distant background adds depth to the level and makes the level seem larger. Rails and ledges require the player to jump up a level and to push the grind button. This means players have to be fast and time their tricks. This makes it challenging to complete tricks. The skater also turns wide and kind of slow which makes it easier to hit objects than to avoid them. This game provides many challenges to keep players involved and trying to improve their skating skills. Challenges include helping people in worlds get objects which you skate to by completing series of jumps and rails and getting off the ground level; then there are the letters to spell “skate” scattered through the level; and other random challenges like smashing pumpkins. The thing I would change about this game I are the handling skills and make the skater better at landing tricks so he doesn’t have to waste so much time falling and getting up constantly.Thu, 06 Mar 2008 02:16:07 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3168&iddiary=5892Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (PS2) - Thu, 06 Mar 2008 02:15:30https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3168Game Entry #1 SUMMARY Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 is a classic skateboarding game that became popular along with the pro skater Tony Hawk who became famous for doing the 900 (a trick that had never been done). This showed people how extreme of a sport skateboarding is. Then in this game, Tony Hawk and friends are professional skaters which you can control and are capable of doing extreme tricks and stunts. You skate around various cities in the world creating challenges and being professional skaters capable of doing big tricks for points. GAMEPLAY IN a free game world with various jumps, rails, stairs, and ledges to perform various grinds or board slides, flip tricks, or up to 900 degree turns (a special move for Tony Hawk). The most fundamental trick is the ollie, and timing to release the ollie button is a key part to successfully pulling off tricks. It is frustrating to mess this up because the character usually ends up falling on his face or stacking by hitting something. It’s possible to get hit by cars. Completing challenges unlocks new levels and decks for the skaters, which make me, try to get further and better at the game. This game allows players to design worlds to skate or to create your own skateboarder. This makes it easier for me to get involved and customize a skater that appeals to me. For someone who has grown up skateboarding and watching skate videos this game allows a lot of freedom for me to choose tricks and rails to attempt without having to endure the physical pain that comes when skating in the real world. I enjoy playing and doing big tricks that I would never attempt in real life. The music features songs picked personally by the pro skaters in the game so it definitely gets me pumped up and makes me want to time and land tricks.Thu, 06 Mar 2008 02:15:30 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3168&iddiary=5891Goldeneye 007 (N64) - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 17:35:40https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2920GAMELOG ENTRY #2 GAMEPLAY After getting to know some of the levels, it was easier for me to take out my enemies because I would get better weapons and armor so I wouldn't die as fast. However, it is frustrating to play against three other people without the radar because I never know when or where someone will pop up. It gets chaotic sometimes and I end up taking on damage from different sides which ends my life fast. So using the different objects such as trash cans or boxes to take cover is a good idea. It sucks to get shot while I am reloading because I am defenseless for a second in which the other takes the lead.It is fun to see the awards each player earned after the rounds. DESIGN After playing XBOX 360 in high definition it is hard to be impressed by the graphics. However, I think about playing the game as a kid and thinking that the graphics are incredible and that each level has a good amount of detail. Still I am able to appreciate the different environments from the snow through the buildings and jungle. Each level has a certain depth to it whether looking into the distance, up or down. I like the variety of weapons and I want to get further just to see what other guns exist. There are sounds for the gunshots, explosions, and getting hurt which are all great. Overall the game has good sounds and the music from the movie makes it even more classic and thrilling.Thu, 21 Feb 2008 17:35:40 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2920&iddiary=5507Goldeneye 007 (N64) - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 15:56:00https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2920SUMMARY This first person shooter game is based off of the James Bond Goldeneye movie and the player goes on similar missions. The main menu consists of secret files which the player can go through and choose levels or change the difficulty of the game. A special feature of this game is that it is multi-player and can be played with up to four people. There is a wide selection of weapons to obtain and Bond also has gadgets such as a watch which can be used to trigger explosives. Play as a secret agent and complete the 20 missions. GAMEPLAY This game is fun to play in multi-player mode because it allows everyone you're hanging out with to have a turn. The levels usually consist of two platforms, there is a ground level and a higher level which is reached by walking up stairs or going through doors. It's fun to alter the settings of the weapons and to try the different modes from "Normal" to "License to Kill". Since this is an older game the controls are not to advanced. When firing a weapon it'll lock onto the target automatically if you are shooting within the targets range. Otherwise, players can try aiming using the cursor but it is hard to keep still. This adds a challenge to shooting a moving target, and makes for a greater sense of achievement when killing the opponent. The wide range of weapons are fun to gather and learn how to use. There are big loud guns such as the rocket launcher or machine guns, but then there are the weapons such as the silenced pistol and rifle with zoom lens which can be used to act stealth and take out victims quietly. I like that the makers used some of the suspenseful music from the movie. Also when a player is hit their outfit gets blood stains and when someone dies, blood drips down the screen which makes it more brutal to kill someone.Thu, 21 Feb 2008 15:56:00 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2920&iddiary=5503NHL 08 (PS2) - Thu, 14 Feb 2008 19:46:30https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2621Game Entry #2 Gameplay This game is great for hockey fans and to play two player, against or on the same team, with another person. It’s easy to reenact your favorite hockey teams and players. All the trash talking that is done in the NHL can be talked or brought up while playing this game. The most frustrating part of this game is being faked out or pressing block to soon because your player dives on the ground and the opponent gets a break away. The best part is scoring because it takes some skill to quickly pass and get a shot off. Design This game is played inside a hockey arena and there are different camera angles to choose from. My favorite one is facing up; where the camera is behind the player and moving up the screen to score and down to defend the goal. Just like sports on TV whenever a team scores a goal or a player does an outstanding play, there is a replay of the highlight. These are fun to watch after scoring or at the end of each period. Controlling the puck is something the player can really do by moving the sticks of the hockey players, this way they can fake or avoid having the puck stolen. There are wrist shots which are good for up close shooting, but for farther shots you can do a slap shot which is a hard shot for the goalie to block.Thu, 14 Feb 2008 19:46:30 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2621&iddiary=4971NHL 08 (PS2) - Thu, 14 Feb 2008 19:45:52https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2621Game Entry #1 Summary The goal of this game is to use your team of players including a goal tender to score a hockey puck in the goal of the opponent’s team. The person with the most goals at the end of the three periods wins. If the score is tied at the end of three rounds, meaning both teams have the same amount of goals, then the teams play in a short over time period. Whoever scores first in the overtime period wins the game. Otherwise, the game continues in a shootout, where teams’ players take turns shooting at the goal tender until one team eventually outscores the other. Gameplay This game is fun because it requires players to think quickly about how to make it passed the defenders and score goals. The players can do fakes before shooting the puck in order to trick the goalie. On defense it is fun to check people and push them into walls. However, if you do something the referee might give a penalty which means a player has to sit out for a little while. During this time the other team has an advantage by having more people. It’s frustrating like in any sport when the referees slow down the game by making penalty, offside, or icing calls.Thu, 14 Feb 2008 19:45:52 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2621&iddiary=4970Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES) - Tue, 15 Jan 2008 04:09:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1884Gamelog Entry #2 GAMEPLAY Just as soon as I think I'm getting good at this game, the game becomes more difficult. I got better at rolling and then jumping which makes the monkey leap further and is necessary to get further in the game. It is interesting to see the different backgrounds for the levels. While going through each stage, it's fun to try and earn extra lives by collecting 100 bananas, bundles are worth 10 bananas. Some of the levels were really hard and took me numerous tries to complete. DESIGN The graphics are good for a 2D Super Nintendo game and each level has different backgrounds. The villains I fight along the way change each stage and move and shoot, which makes it hard to get passed them. It is frustrating when there are so many obstacles and such little room for mistakes. The bonus rounds are fun and change from destroying all the bad guys to collecting all the stars. The controls involve a lot of jumping, climbing, walking, and running. It is easy to bump into something or make a mistake, even for my friend who has more experience with the game. If I could change the game I would add more bananas and those special boxes which make the player invincible for awhile. Rool. The game starts out on a pirate ship before travelling to K. Rool's island called Crocodile Isle. The objectives of the game are to make it to the end of the levels with at least one of the monkeys, defeat the bosses at the end of each world, and to rescue Donkey Kong. GAMEPLAY I enjoyed taking time out to play this game that I wanted, but never owned, as a child. The game is fun because I can destroy bad guys by jumping on them or throwing barrels at them. There are animal friends such as a rhino and snake, which are fun to control because they have different strengths which help with the obstacles in the levels. Other times the game was less fun, like some parts were troublesome and took playing over and over in order to pass. However, the game was interesting because it's filled with surprises like bonus boxes which have little games in them that if completed earn gold coins which can be used to save the game or to buy transportation. This gave me something to look out for while going through levels. Also, as you get further in the game different animal buddies come around like a swordfish, a snake, a spider, and even a parrot helps out. This game is two player which makes it fun to play with a friend. One person controls Diddy and the other controls the girl, who does a spin move when she jumps which makes her stay in the air longer. It's possible to switch roles standing, so players can switch off at many points or the other takes over when one dies.Tue, 15 Jan 2008 01:04:41 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1884&iddiary=3683
