dj bleezy's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=691NBA courtside (N64) - Wed, 05 Mar 2008 19:06:36https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3029Game play The second time was clearer because I had already played. I picked a better team and could use the controls. This time was more competitive between the people playing knew how to play. With more practice I can see that I am already getting better. At one point I didn’t realize which player I was controlling and I ran him into the post of the basket. The character fell over just like he would have if he had hit the pole in real life. It was really funny but interesting that they could make him react like that. Game design This is a good game design because you can have many different matches with different players and different teams. The controls are complicated at first but allow you to have control of a whole team of characters. This game causes competition and lots of back and fourth leads. The open competition of different teams leave room for lots of playtime. The were not very clear at the beginning which controls you would need but you ca figure them out once your playing. I think the idea of NBA courtside is cool because you can pick your favorite well-known players but on other basketball games you don’t have to use a designated team you can select your own players to make a team. This leaves room for more choice.Wed, 05 Mar 2008 19:06:36 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3029&iddiary=5678NBA courtside (N64) - Wed, 05 Mar 2008 19:06:07https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3029Summary You play as an NBA team against another team in basketball. You have to pass and shoot on offense and you must swat and block on defense. Scoring the most baskets just like normal basketball is your goal. Game play At first neither of us knew how to play or the controls. It was very hectic. Once we got the controls down the game got competitive right away. Before we started we didn’t realize how important picking your team is important in which players you have. Each player is better at different things so your team selection is crucial. Sometimes I would accidentally shoot from the opposite side of the court without meaning to. The control that took me the longest to realize was when I was on defense I didn’t know how to change which player was defending. Once I understood this it made it easier to stop them from scoring every single time. In the end I figured out which payer of mine was good at three pointers and used him to win.Wed, 05 Mar 2008 19:06:07 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3029&iddiary=5677Unknown (N64) - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 00:39:58https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2797Summary You race on the 3-D multi-level platform game to find the star at the end of each level. Free motion in this world creates gravity as one of your largest obstacles. This game is one of the first of its kind. Gameplay I played the haunted castle level. You have to beat boo and other ghosts to obtain the star at the end. i couldn't finish the level because there seems to be a lot of skilled parts of the level. I played it for a while but i got bored because i couldn't have the feeling of successfulness. I was continuously falling and running into things because i wasn't used to the controls and the 3-D look. It took me a while of looking around and finding out new things about this game. Sometimes there were little signs or things with hints that helped you find out what you were trying to do. Mostly i think i need to play this game more before i will have a good idea about the gameThu, 21 Feb 2008 00:39:58 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2797&iddiary=5283Unknown (N64) - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 00:35:40https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2797Game play This time i got a better chance to play and found out more of the rules. I realized that you can collect coins or beat a character to win the level as well as get the star. This was cool because looking at the rest of the game there were new elements that were added like underwater or on ice. I think that this is good because each level has its own unique style to it. Being underwater takes away the element of gravity. On the ice you slip and slide so it makes it harder to stop on que. This time was a little more fun because i actually got the idea of the game and how to play. I still have to say this isn't my favorite game, i get frustrated with it too easily. Design i think what really keeps people playing the game is the successful feeling of getting the star after spending a lot of time on ay level. It took me a while to get a hang of the game but once you finish a level and get a star you just want to keep playing. you want to play the next level and get the next star, which shows good design. You Can keep your audience waiting to play. This game is cool because it uses the old concepts of platform games but adds 3-D. This is one of the first of its kind. This makes people want to play it and try and to figure out the new style fore video games. This was really a good step for video games. There is a new feel to this game because you can play and there are many ways to win. You can take what path you want to get to the star or get enough gold coins. This is good because you feel like you have a choice or if you cant finish one task you can still try and beat the level in a different way.Thu, 21 Feb 2008 00:35:40 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2797&iddiary=5274Mario Party (N64) - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 00:04:47https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2358 (This entry has been edited1 time. You must climb to the top of the mountain to get stars and the price of the stars changes when each one is bought. The strategy is to get up the mountain the most times but also to hae enough money for the star when you get to the top. This was a very competative game because a lot of the times that you reach the top you dont even have enough coins to buy a star. In this case they send you all the way to the bottom and you must climb to the top again before you can try to buy one. The mini-games are a way bigger deal on this level than most of the others. The amount of coins going around is significantly less. TO get 40 coins for when the stars are most expensive can take a while winning mini-games. If you do not win mini-games you have to try and strategize how to steal other peoples coins. You can do his by buying orbs or fighting in duel games. If you are in a duel game, you are matched up against one person and you can fight them, and whoever wins gets to steal coins or stars form the other player. This really is what ends up deciding the game. People get only one or two stars on this level so everything can change if they spin the wheel and gain a star. Everyone likes mulitplayer mini-games because it gives you an extra chance to gain more coins than all of your opponents. It is hard when it is a duel mini-game because some people we play with are way better than others making it hard to win the game and avoid being stolen from. Design MY favorite thing about this game is that each level you need to have a new strategy. This level is all about saving your coins so that when you get to the top you don't have to get sent down to the bottom empty handed. The design of this game is good because there are matters of skill and luck so there is always a chance for anyone to win. They sometime will give advantages to the person in last place just to shake things up. the whole concept of the orbs is one of the best things about this game. You can have chances to move peoples spot or steal coins form them. This can make the game really interesting, especially if one person if buying a lot of orbs and taking up a lot of the spaces. You can even buy orb that will steal other peoples spaces and make them your space. This can really change the game around and ads fun to the rolling part of the game. Sometimes it seems like people would rather just play the mini-games. To me this is not as fun because the board has so much strategy and twists that it keeps me in the game even though im not very good at the mini-games. There is an option if you don't want a board that is pretty cool for those people who just want to play the games. You try and win games to open clam shells. You are looking for the faces in the shell that match your own. Once you get three you win. this goes by quicker and has way more games. This game was made well for anyone and everyone to play. It has a pretty level playing field for beginners and is still fun for people who have played many times. Overall i think this is a good group game or family game. Thu, 07 Feb 2008 14:21:32 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2358&iddiary=4500Mario Party (N64) - Thu, 07 Feb 2008 13:21:30https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2358Summary A Video board game where you must try and win the most stars and coins through a series of mini-games and rolling. Each board has its own theme and rules. Game Play We played the windmill level of Mario Party. This level was fun because your coins were very important to purchase the windmills. This made each mini-game crucial because whoever won could hopefully buy or put money into and windmill. There is lots of strategy to this level because you want the most windmills but some windmills are worth more stars than others. If you have the most money in the windmill thats worth three stars you get three stars instead of just one like other windmills. Not only is it hard too strategize what windmills to buy you also must look at where you are going on the board. Each time a character passes a bridge or obstacle it changes so the next person goes a different way than the other. This means you must try to plan ahead where you want to go and how you are going to get there. This makes the game tricky because if you are racing someone to a windmill it is most likely that only one of you will even be able to go the directions of it, if that. This is a cool game because you are competitive with the people you are playing with in the mini games but there are also lots of places for good luck such as rolling. This makes it so the person who wins all the games might not win the game. This is good for people who are beginning because the game board is what matters most. They also have directions before each mini game so you don't have to go into the game not knowing how to play. The orbs that you can pick up around the board can change the game significantly. They can take away peoples coins or their coins from a windmill. This can change the game quickly. It is easy to get a lot of your spaces on the board and setting traps for the other players. This is crucial for the people who don't win the games because they must steal coins from the people who are winning and have their own coins.Thu, 07 Feb 2008 13:21:30 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2358&iddiary=4499Wii Play (Wii) - Fri, 25 Jan 2008 13:50:19https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2046Game play This time i played i chose to only play a few of the mini games. i chose to play laser hockey and the shooting game. In laser hockey you seem to get competitive right away because the rules are simple and everyone can play. This is a good take off of the simple game of pong or the basics of air hockey. The shooting game is fun because you actually use the wii remote like a remote. you point it at things and press a button to shoot. This is a new way to play games, but a slight take off of the classic nintendo duck hunting game. Design The design of laser hockey was good because even though they used the idea of old games they put their own new spin on it. The lights and the puck and the paddles were all original. It was very easy for yourself to make the puck in your own goal which is important because in real air hockey this affect can change the game. A two player game like this could be played over and over but has no change in story. You are always trying to make it into the other sides goal. As well you are always trying to stop people from making it into your goal. Perhaps a new twist could make this game better but it is fun anyways. The shooting game was by far my favorite game. Using the wii remote brought me back to the days of duck hunting. I think that i could play this game over and over again. It is a hard game to start, so it makes you want to keep playing and getting better. The directions weren't very clear when i first played but as soon as i knew the situation i played much better. I think that this game has potential to be a very good game but a few things could be changed. I think that this game could have been better if every time it wasn't just a free for all shoot off. I like the last part where you kill spaceships that are attacking your player and not the others. This was a good new twist but it is only the last part of the competition. I think they should put more element like this in their game and it could be better. Maybe like colored targets or something so you have to watch what you shoot. they attempted this by putting your wii face on targets but they don't explain what your intentions should be before the game starts. One second you are shooting for the other persons pieces and next your trying to save your own. Overall this game design was good but there is room for improvement.Fri, 25 Jan 2008 13:50:19 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2046&iddiary=4038Wii Play (Wii) - Thu, 24 Jan 2008 23:12:16https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2046Summary Wii play was many different mini games to explore the uses of the Wii remote. You create your own character and can battle other people in these short games. Many of the games were spins of ones we already know and some original games. Game Play We started out with the cow race game. This was an interesting use of the remote. You would tilt the remote in the direction you would want to move. This game was interesting but not very fun. It got boring in the first couple of minutes and i wanted to change the game. The wasn't enough actions you could do other than steer. The next game we played was Billiards. This was an OK version of billiards but not as much freedom as better versions. You had to hit a certain ball at first so if you had a bad placement you wouldn't have a chance. This game was fun because each ball was worth different amounts of points but in the end it seemed like it didn't make a difference. The fishing game was boring. The only thing it showed was how you would have to respond after the remote vibrates. It can be interesting but the directions weren't clear enough. Find mii was the first turn around for the game. I liked this game because you all had an equal chance of seeing the matching mii's first. This was competative and kept me wanting to play more. I think it was because each round was a new chance, with no reference to the last round. If you do bad one round you can do good the next. Laser hockey was my favorite game, even though it is a take off of air hockey and pong. It was creative with the lights and kept me entertained. Table tennis was fun but you didn't hold the remote the same way you would a ping pong paddle so it was a bit awkward. I felt like the view of the screen and the way the paddles moved were confusing and hard to get used to. The last game was the shooting game. This reminded me of the old classic duck hunting. It was fun but confusing at the end when you were trying t save your players from the aliens. I hadn't realized that you were trying to save your players and was just trying to save all the players. By this time most of my players had died and i lost. Maybe more clear directions in the beginning could have stopped this dilema.Thu, 24 Jan 2008 23:12:16 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=2046&iddiary=3956Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (GC) - Tue, 15 Jan 2008 00:41:29https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1875Game Play The more I play this game the easier it is to catch on and beat other people who have played for a long time. I have learned how to shoot weapons backwards and switch players on the cart so you can collect more weapons. Drifting around corners and boosting helps you stay with the players in the front. The game gets more competitive now that every one who is playing knows how to play. There seems to be a lot of last minute wins. People who are in 3rd and get a good weapon right before the end have a good chance of winning. I like playing this game but too many people play it too much. It is good in quantities but there is no puzzle or moving ahead in the game so each little race you start with a clean slate. In the end it gets a little tedious and being a person who cant play a lot of video games I get tired. Design The ability to change your characters, weapons, carts, and courses makes this game well designed. You can spend hours playing because there are so many different combinations of play. When you are in last place the weapons that you get when picking up boxes are much better. This makes it fun because it is not impossible to catch up to people if you are behind on the last lap. The people in the from of the pack get weapons that don’t do as much damage like a banana that people could slip on. Finding out about the short cuts made the game more tricky. You can use boosts to go through them or find some short cuts that have a hidden double box. Each level has its own short cuts but finding them is the hard part. I had people who knew where they were so after watching a couple games I caught on. The design of the game was good for many people to play together and variety of options makes the game fun for long periods of time.Tue, 15 Jan 2008 00:41:29 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=1875&iddiary=3676
