Ok so once I played on through and planted the bombs, killed just about everyone the two key players kill themselves in the library. I understand that this game wanted to be exactly like the real events that occurred but my only problem is was it really necessary to include those graphic photos of the real victims and the bloody bodies on the floor? Again, this game continues to amaze me on how disrespectful it has played out to be. The total kicker would be when once my player dies I go on and play against the hell creatures. This game lacks respect for the dead, respect for traumatic events and turns them into a “fun filled game that everyone should play.” No, I would not recommend this game to anyone and I think that somehow this game should be deleted and/or blocked from the internet. I do understand that everyone has their right to speech but I really do believe that there is a fine line between expressing your beliefs and taking something serious and devastating and totally putting a cartoon, comical twist to it. Violence is practical thrown in your face and the images and situations you are faced with are those that real life people did meet. No matter who plays this game you take on the role of a killer which stands against any form of the definition of morality. How is this game moral? The answer would be that it isn’t. This game basically tells the game player that to be a mass murder you have to listen to this music, wear this certain type of clothing, and blame someone for your mistakes and personal problems. All throughout the beginning of the game when I, the player, shot someone it was called a victory for the trench coat mafia. How is killing an innocent bystander a victory? This game is highly not recommended to anyone because it lacks respect, morality, and includes violence beyond belief.Wed, 05 Nov 2008 14:41:19 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3462&iddiary=6534Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Wed, 05 Nov 2008 12:55:17https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3462During my second session of playing this obscene game that has completely turned one of the worst mass murders America has ever seen into a playful game my opinion still has not changed. Even though this game is created with RPG images it still strikes me as a slap in the face. All I could think about is what the parents of these students who have lost their lives are thinking about this game. While playing the game I did as I was told to do, plant the bombs, kill anyone who got into my path, etc. and all it did was make me feel guilty for even sitting here playing. I have never seen a game let alone played a game that has given me such feelings. All I feel is anger and guilt. As I think about it I think the number one aspect of Super Columbine Massacre that rubs me the wrong way would be that the creators took a real life traumatic event and decided to give players the capability of doing what these two men did without facing the consequences. Yes there are many games out there that relate to war and things that are happening in our society but this particular event that is being depicted in this game again hits to close to home. The violence and relation to reality this game is portraying is far beyond belief.Wed, 05 Nov 2008 12:55:17 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3462&iddiary=6515Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Wed, 05 Nov 2008 00:19:39https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3462I have never heard or played this game before this assignment. With great hesitation I did sit down one evening and play. My predictions of the game stood true once I played the full thirty minutes. After reading the book, “She said ‘Yes’,” which a mother wrote about her daughter who was a victim of the Columbine shootings, this game put me in an outraged mood. I am completely appalled that such an event was made into a mockery. I use the word ‘mockery’ for the fact that this game desensitizes the acts of these two horrible men. It desensitizes the player and viewers of the game to murder and violence. I know that I may be sounding like an outraged mother but including graphic and personal photos of the victims and shooters dead on the ground while flashing them through an animated RPG game makes me angry. To me this game screams, “Let's play murders and shoot anyone who comes into my path of destruction.” Violence without a doubt is the main focus of this game and it still shocks me that such an event could be taken so lightly that a GAME was made in relation to it. When I took on the character of one of the key players in the Columbine shooting I was literally disgusted. I couldn’t believe that when I walked into the high school with my duffle bag of guns and bombs that I was given a menu of items and actions of my choosing to kill a person. If you really think about it that menu of options is exactly what the real killers were given. Once they approached a bystander they could shoot them, chock them, throw a bomb at them, whatever I wanted to do to that person I could potentially do. It’s almost like this game hits to close to the real persona of the killers. I absolutely dislike this game.Wed, 05 Nov 2008 00:19:39 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3462&iddiary=6473Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC) - Mon, 06 Oct 2008 13:40:25https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3395I have shockingly played this game a lot more than I had thought. I even got one of my friends that are not into games such as this to even go out and buy GTA 4!! It really is unbelievable how a game that allows you to kill, destroy, and batter characters becomes so engaging. I'm sure there is some psychological explanation to why people enjoy playing these types of games. I can personally say that I do like Grand Theft Auto but some of the messages are supporting strong stereotypes which I do not agree with. Questions that I continue to ask are why does the key character have to be black and why do the cops have to be white? What statement is this color choice trying to make? Is thinking that every black male will eventually commit these same crimes moral? I know personally that the stereotypes that the game is portraying are not true but how do other people know? The acts of violence are so strong that I’m glad that the gamer rating is mature. As the player in the game just by walking around the city and observing things I notice gang bangers who want to kill me and hookers that want to get a piece of action. Life in this game to a certain degree is not the real thing. This game applies to the imagination of worst case scenario how everyday life would be and that is not necessarily true. To a certain degree people respect authority, not in this game. It is like the entire city is living by the saying, “do or die.” Again, I have not mastered this game and controlling my character with the proper key commands is still difficult but it is very clear on the type of audience the game is appealing to and what type of message it is conveying. The racial issues, non the least are again very strong when you stand back to look at the whole picture there is not one thing you can do at this point to get away from the stereotypes in Grand Theft Auto.Mon, 06 Oct 2008 13:40:25 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3395&iddiary=6404Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC) - Mon, 06 Oct 2008 13:14:07https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3395While playing this game I have noticed that I get more involved with the game. I find myself getting worried that the cops are after me and I am actually starting to look for people to beat up so I can make some quick money. I realize and understand that this is just a game but what worries me is what kind of message is this game sending to kids and minors who get completely wrapped up in the game. Upon writing my first log and noticing that racial issues are found every where in the game I can't help but constantly think about them now since even the way the characters in the game speak is without a doubt judgmental. I say judgmental for the fact why do the hookers on the street have to speak with a Hispanic Brooklyn accent? Or why must the people in the cars and on the streets need to be apart of a gang and carry guns? It's amazing how much influence a "fun game" like this has on people and how it portrays people in today's society. While comparing this game to morality and trying to bring in the definition and the key concepts of moral I find it difficult to steer away from the thought of how this game does not posses one moral value. How is killing people to benefit you moral? How are stealing cars and shooting innocent people moral? The only thing I find entertaining in this game would be living the life of someone else without having to face the penalties of actually performing these actions. But now does that make what I’m doing moral, or is my way of thought moral? Mon, 06 Oct 2008 13:14:07 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3395&iddiary=6401Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC) - Sat, 04 Oct 2008 22:07:57https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3395This is the first time I have ever played a game like this on my computer and I think the hardest thing was trying to figure out the key commands. In addition this is the first time I have played this game and all I can say is that the first thing I noticed were racial issues. For example, the main character, whose object is to steal cars and rob people, was a black man. That right there creates the assumption that the only type of people who steal cars are people of color. Another racial issue I noticed was that many of the drivers of the cars were either of Hispanic descent and/or black. I think what this game is portraying is in order to be “hood,” who have to be black, steal cars, and beat up people to gain respect. Intentionally, while playing the game I had fun crashing into things and beating up cops that were chasing me. After a few minutes of destroying my environment I began fulfilling missions and raising my wanted status. Along the way I again started to notice what the object of the game was and what type of person the game wanted me to be. Some of the things I took note of were, in order to gain money I had to fulfill missions that did help the community but I also beat up hookers, gang bangers, and cops. From what I do know about the urban environment, the color purple just as the gang bangers were wearing is actually a gang color. Morality plays no part in this game thus far. You only look out for yourself and nobody else. A question that does come into mind is, “Is it moral to kill a criminal who has killed one of you gang members in a previous drug exchange?” This game introduces many questions regarding morality and questioning what technically is moral and what isn’t.
