ntwillie's GameLogBlogging the experience of gameplayhttps://www.gamelog.cl/gamers/GamerPage.php?idgamer=993Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Tue, 10 Mar 2009 16:28:03https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3699Day 3 I played SCM RPG some more today. I final got to the cafeteria planted the bombs and made a run for the car in the parking lot. It was interesting to see how detailed the game was with the cut scenes about what the two boys were thinking about before they decided to commit the actions that would change the lives of the students at Columbine HS and the way Americans view safety at our schools. This is troublesome to me to because this is just what the developers thought these boys where thinking. They don't know, I don't know, No one really knows. I think that for the families, the guesses of what they were thinking should have been left out of the game. I finally get to the part where its time to start killing the students. It was interesting that the students did not have names but stereotypical categories given to them, like a jock, or nerd girl. although this had no major thought of its morality, it was interesting how the developers did this. I started shooting everyone i could, but it got boring, it became pointless to me. I got sad and emotional and just stooped playing.Tue, 10 Mar 2009 16:28:03 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3699&iddiary=6987Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Mon, 09 Mar 2009 00:02:31https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3699Day 2 I continued to play the game Super Columbine Massacre RPG! I feel like its follows the vents to the wire and although not visually realistic, it still give a realistic view into the worlds of the boys and the decisions they were making. I find this to be very insensitive to their families as though it give a idea of their planning for their actions, we still have no idea what they were thinking when they decided to do what they did. I can’t get past the hallway to set the bombs and its kind of unrealistic as they were able to do it in real life with no issues.Mon, 09 Mar 2009 00:02:31 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3699&iddiary=6930Super Columbine Massacre RPG (PC) - Mon, 09 Mar 2009 00:02:11https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3699Day 1 I had no clue what to think about this game. The title its self is a bit scary in my head and very unethical as well. There have been films made about the Columbine school shootings but a video game seems a bit insensitive. There have been films made about the September 11th terror attacks as well but nothing like a video game. I find that there is something that makes video games comical in a entertainment way. I don’t find the topic to be funny or fun at all. So far the game play is interesting as there are a lot of items to pick up, read, or interact with.Mon, 09 Mar 2009 00:02:11 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3699&iddiary=6929Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (360) - Sun, 15 Feb 2009 22:16:04https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3623DAY 3: I played my final 30 min session of GTA San Andreas today. I have concluded that this is indeed a game that allows people to take action and engage in violent acts and immoral acts. It also gives the sense of “false right doings,” In the beginning we are telling our selves we want to find out more about the death of Cal’s mother, and we want to clean up the streets, but some of the acts that we must do to accomplish this are violent and wrong. Yes we do kill the dealers of crack and the gang members who run them, But is it right? The simulation demoed in our class in which killing to get after a terrorist, are we making our own terrorists? This game is incredibly fun, but what I like about it is that you can like with many other mediums of media, pull something from it and examine it in ways that make you think more critically about social issues facing the world. I have played GTA games for way more than an Hour and Thirty minutes and can tell you they are entertaining, not made for kids under the age of 14, (not 17!). But at the end of the day it’s a game, its objective based like any other game. Can we learn from it. Yes we can. Just because I play this game, or others play this games exhibiting the same themes does not mean that I’m a violent person or that I’m going to reenact the themes within the game. The only thrill is completing the missions in order to advance forward in the game. It’s an Objective, it may have social issues but overall, its an fun objective, That is it.Sun, 15 Feb 2009 22:16:04 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3623&iddiary=6794Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (360) - Sun, 15 Feb 2009 22:02:51https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3623Day 2: I continued to play the game from where i left off escaping the "Ballers" my characters arch enemy. It left me for dead because the gang gave me no reason to why they were my enemy, they just were. I started the next mission in which we I was to hangout with a ex gang member of Cal's. We went to go get money/ rob a pizza joint not to far from the Hood. We went but we were chased out as the clerk pulled out a shotgun and chased us out shooting. Although this seemed like a silly plot point it made me think, is this really the only choice people in this economic standing have. As usual after completing the mission I received "respect," Once agian questioning what it takes to earn respect. I decided instead of starting another mission I would cruse the area looking around the environment more. I have never driven around west Compton but I imagined it would look like this. But with that imagination i thought wow. I just made a stereotype about a area of L.A. country and what this enviorment might be like. I never have been in any neighborhood in Compton CA, I just assumed.Sun, 15 Feb 2009 22:02:51 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3623&iddiary=6791Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (360) - Sun, 15 Feb 2009 21:47:33https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3623DAY 1: I have played many games of the GTA series before and have had a taste of the game lay environment and what they have to offer. Normally I prefer first person shooters and sports games but I have always purchased many if the GTA titles yet was never able to get into them. The exception for that was GTA 4 I liked the story line, and game play so much it sucked me in. I knew this assignment would be a good way for me to take a look at the previous GTA game San Andreas. From the start I was much more analytical about the game. I was analytical beginning with the story of the game. I think the story about any game is very important, unless its a simulation where the objective is implied. The story about Cal and how he has come back to face the death and murder of his mother is interesting and captivating. Although not quite cinematic, the installing conflict gives some purpose to the game which many games I feel lack. Cal almost seemed like he was coming back to do the right thing, almost Kantian in a way. As soon as the game play began you could feel like the environment you have landed in is hostile right from the get go. The streets just had a run down feel, making the socio-economic issues even more blatant in the game. Yet as you start to get a good feeling about the game, you learn things are bad as one of Cal's boy/friend points out that "Ni**as blast on fools first then ask questions second," while examining the resting place of his mother. It was almost ironic as right after Cal's friend said this their rival gang started a drive by in which I had to run away from. But what was even more sad, is that after escaping the rival gangs violence. I earned a point of "Respect" which made me question. Is gang-banging the only way to earn respect in an urban environment. Right here is were i learned that the game would portray many stereotypes that reflect badly on urban life styles.Sun, 15 Feb 2009 21:47:33 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3623&iddiary=6787Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (360) - Sun, 15 Feb 2009 20:53:13https://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3623TestSun, 15 Feb 2009 20:53:13 CDThttps://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3623&iddiary=6784
