    Abucaro1's Super Columbine Massaacre (Web)

    [May 12, 2010 03:20:50 PM]
What really surprised me while walking through the school was that a still image of Bill Clinton appeared on a TV screen and there was a voiceover of his voice speaking about the massacre. When Dylan and Eric went into a girls bathroom there was a group of girls standing around in a circle and Dylan says “All you girls do is talk, now it’s really time to die.” After the boys kill them Eric makes a joke that now the girls are speechless. The boys start laughing and say how much fun they are having. This scene disgusts me because they are clearly really enjoying killing people for no reason. When I got inside the library the cops started shooting through the window and Dylan turns to Eric and says “The time has come, are you ready to end this shit forever.” Eric then can make a choice to say either “Yes, the time has come” or “Lets blow away more shitheads.” I obviously chose the first one because I could not take this game anymore. It was getting pretty boring just going around and doing the same thing over and over again for no reason. The boys then say that maybe they could go somewhere that America would never be able to touch them. There is then an image of the boys on an island like they are dreaming, and they say “No one would bother us, pick on us or tell us what to do.” Clearly the boys are outcasts in society and they feel unaccepted by everyone. They then say that “Maybe we could hijack a plan and crash it in New York.” So the boys shoot themselves because they just want to get off of the planet. There is then a slideshow of pictures from the actual event that are really depressing. I thought that it was strange that the game also showed photos of the two boys growing up. The game almost makes the player feel bad for Eric and Dylan. I was then playing Dylan while he was in Hell. I have no idea where Eric was because the game never says. I ran into too many demons and died. After you die the screen says that The Trench Coat Mafia has failed and that Suburban Monotony lives on. I did not want to play again because the game is too repetitive and boring for me personally. Also, the game kind of makes me feel like an absolutely terrible person.

When I got to the point in the game when the boys arrive at school I was confused at first about what to do. I really liked that “Sweet Dreams” by Marilyn Manson was playing the in background. It gave the game a little bit of suspense and the player knows that something is about to happen. It took me about five tries to figure out that I could not walk past the security cameras. I also did not know that I could not run into anyone. I eventually figured it out and then went to the park, where I think the most influential conversation of the game happens. The boys talk about how their lives have added up to today and that this is their “Apocalypse Now.” Dylan says that it is “kinda depressing if you think about it but it’s the way it’s gotta be. This is the end, my only friend, the end.” However, the game never says why this is the way it has to be. As they look over the city of Denver, Eric says that “I would love to kill all the residents of Denver.” I wonder what made these boys so angry that would make them feel this way. Eric talks about how people always say to push yourself to be better, treat everyone equal, be happy and kind, help the poor, and stop violence. His response to that is “Fuck you, shut up and die.” I was appalled when I read that. My jaw literally dropped. I was shocked to see this in the game. I could not believe how much disrespect that these boys had. I just kept asking myself, what happened to you? When the boys finally get their guns Dylan tells Eric “If it moves, kill it. If it doesn’t, burn it.” Basically as Eric then I am supposed to kill everyone in the game. The boys clearly have no game plan; they are just going into the school and shooting everything. I died once because I ran out of health because I did not go back to the car. So I had to play everything over again. I did find the names of the people I was killing a little amusing. My favorites would have to be the “Openly Gay Man,” “Catholic School Teacher,” “Goody Goody Girl,” “Prom Queen,” and “Black Boy.” I found it extremely interesting how many shots it would take to kill a certain person as well. The “Pretty Girl,” “Popular Girl,” “Preppy Girl,” and “Nerdy Girl” all died with one quick and simple shot. However, the “Jock Type” and “Janitor” usually took a few shots to kill. It was a bit humorous when trying to kill the “Church Girl” she would kneel down and pray and gain some health. However, no other characters gained any health back.

When I first started playing Super Columbine Massacre RPG! I did not know what at all to expect. I was surprised to see how extremely easy the game was; all I had to do was move the arrows around and press enter. Basically I was controlling Eric the whole time, one of the two boys who were responsible for the Columbine Massacre. When Eric wakes up and calls Dylan I could not believe the conversation that was going on between them. The line that really shocked me was when Dylan says “It will be fun. What is life without a little death?” I then explored Eric’s basement a little bit where I found the video game Doom and a Marilyn Manson CD which was said to inspire impulsive aggression and rage. It is almost like the game was giving an excuse for the boys’ behavior and blaming it on these things. I then had Eric go over to the pizza box and then a flashback to Flapjack Pizza showed. I liked that Nirvana was playing in the background of the game because that was the time period that they were extremely popular. The flashback showed the boys lighting things on fire and talking about how much damage they could do with the dry ice and aerosol that they could get from the storage room of Baskin Robbins. It was interesting to hear actually where the boys were getting the things they needed in order to make the bombs. However, the game never said where they got all of the guns from. What really stood out to me about the flashback scene was that the boys were talking about the future. Dylan got into Arizona State and was going to major in Computer Science. Eric wants to go to the Marines because his Dad was in the Air Force and he does not want to let him down. The fact that the game shows this side of the boys is strange because it makes the player seem to know them a little better and made me think that they are just normal kids planning for college.
