    Sol's Maple Story (PC)

    [January 12, 2007 04:23:16 AM]
I've gone through the game enough to reach the Magician city on the island. It's a long walk from the dock, passing another city on the way. Passing on the road was very difficult. There were many monsters that were more appropriate for some one at level 20 maybe, I was on 8. I was training to become a magician, which is a very hard thing to do when you start off with no magic and a low attack power. When I was granted permission to train as a magician, I received some magic power but clearly not enough to beat the enemies on the road, even the easiest ones. A warrior would have a better chance because the weapon can do a lot of damage, but a magician is restricted to his magic attack. It depletes magic too fast to be effective with a crowd of foes. So I always run into the situation where I have no more magic to work with, leaving me completely defenseless. There are items to recover a lot of magic, but it's rare and very expensive in the store. There's still the annoyance that you have to spend nearly half the day just to increase half a level defeating the same monster over and over again. Well, that's it for now. I might put on a bit more tomorrow.

Hi. This is Edwin logging for Maple Story. I was recently hooked back into this game after news that close friends have been frequenting it. As in most MMORPGs, there is no main character to play, there is only the character you create. You get to select what the character looks like; however, there are not many style choices to make, so you run into the fact that most everyone looks the same. The only thing that sets each other apart is the clothing the characters wear. From undershirts to fancy robes there are many options of clothing to make your character somewhat unique. I started off at the beginner's island, Maple Island. There are only five types of monsters on this island which players can choose to fight depending on their level. After leveling up enough you can go into the main island where most of the players are located. There is a lot of player interaction , which adds to it's overall appeal. Other than the prospect of joining your friends and the occasional game events, the game has no easy way of keeping player interested, so after about a half hour I find myself bored and call it quits for a day. Gameplay is simplified due to the fact that it's platformer based, which I find good for any beginning player. In-game music does a good job of creating the appropriate atmosphere for each map the player is currently in. I have a few personal favorite songs from specific maps. I'll end my current log here and on the next one I'll see how jobs work in game.
