    ¨Ð®.•Þ's Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (PS2)

    [January 16, 2007 11:51:16 PM]
Street Fighter 3 Third Strike was a really good game to play in a tournment. I played it at the video game tournament and it was pretty fun. It was even more difficult to play another person than it was to play the computer. However, there is not much of an audience for 2dimensional fighting games. A game like street fighter is meant to be played in Arcades mostly, so it is sometimes not rare to have someone play the game with a arcade joystick style controller. I believe it make sthe gameplay easier and makes someone slightly better, ever since the Street Fighter 2 Arcade game came out, games of that two dimensional style are played better with arcade joysticks.
Another aspect which becomes aparent when playing this game more seriously against other players is that everyone plays differently and strategy becomes very important. As I was playing at home I thought this might be the case. The hardest part to do in this game is parry. This parry/counter technique is probably the most game-altering move in the game, with mastering this, you can pretty much own the competition. For this game the hardest part for me to to is countering supermoves.

Today I played Street Fighter II 3rd Strike for the playstation 2. It is part of a really good two game package of the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. Its a very simple game and is of my favorite genre of video gaming which is the classic 2d fighter. There are a lot of charachters each with their own moves and special fighting abilities. The beauty about 2d fighters is that they can do a lot things that look cool because the gameplay loooks very cartoonish, yet you dont need everything to be 3d generated or bombastic. Aside from graphics though the game is very addicting for me. I played as Ken, a classic charachter in the Street Fighter Series. Ken is a very versatile player, one of the strongest, and his moves are all very cool looking. I set the difficulty for the computer to the highest because there is a video game tournament featuring this game this coming Saturday. Any other setting would prove a little too easy I think because I play these games all the time. I took me about an hour to beat the game with Ken.
One of the new and spectacular things about this game which sets it apart from all other 2dimensional fighting games is a parry/counter system. The theory is basically instead of holding back to block an attack coming at you, you very carefully try and time the attack about to hit you and tap forward quikcly, this initiats a quick counter strike and a chance for you to hit back the opponent. If acrefully executed, one could counter an entire super combo, these are super damaging moves you could do when you have sufficient energy stored up from fighting in your energy bar. Ken is a very fast and damaging charachter, sometimes his moves have slow recovery time, but his super moves are very useful and easy to link up.
