    dkirschner's Octodad (PC)

    [March 24, 2013 02:55:31 AM]
Also finally got around to trying this after reading about Dadliest Catch reminded me that I wanted to check this out. The game is hilarious, the premise being that you're a loving dad, husband, but are secretly an octopus. How no one knows you're an octopus, I've no clue. Well, one person suspects it, the bad guy, the sushi chef, who wants to expose you and turn you into sushi.

You spend most of the game doing mundane tasks around the house, which are made really difficult and funny because you are an octopus. Walking is difficult, picking things up is difficult...everything is difficult. But funny. At one point I had to clean off a countertop for my wife and I laughed at just swiping everything onto the floor that I'd just mopped. Another time I had to find a toy for my daughter in the toy chest, and it was wonderful just grabbing and tossing everything out of it.

I love Octodad's noises. He sounds a bit like a Murloc from WoW. Brlrlrllrlr! His walking is also great. Every time he steps, you hear his suction cups. He sticks to surfaces and peels away from them. Because he doesn't have proper legs, he's a bit of a contortionist, sometimes winding up in bizarre positions. I'm sure it's in large part because he's an octopus and he's supposed to have trouble moving, but I did get tired of the controls by the end. The camera will swoop around and it's hard to see right and move him sometimes. Picking up objects could also be annoyingly difficult, trying to select what you want, move your tentacle to the correct height to get it, etc.

I wonder a lot of things about Octodad. Like, how are his children human? What does he do for a living? What does his wife think he sounds like? Why is the chef the only one who recognizes him as an octopus? Doesn't matter of course. Such a creative game. If the next one controls a little better, I'll be excited to check it out.

This is hilarious! And fun to try and move him and make him do simple tasks. I love his sounds too. --------- Controls get irritating by the end. Partly they are on purpose since he's an octopus, but partly they are just irritating.
