    brialinza's Life is Strange (PC)

    [January 22, 2017 05:54:36 AM]
I have not posted an entry in the past 2 days because I couldn't put the game down until it was finished. So much happens in each episode, it is crazy...

To sum it up, as I continued to play as Max, I found myself faced with choices revolved around trying to save Chloe. I gained powers in the game to look at photos and go back to the time of the photo selfie and have the chance to make choices there. This created parallel realities that ultimately I jumped back and forth in different ways to try and stop everything from getting worse.

Arcadia Bay (the town) was doomed for a storm, as seen in the final episode and in flash-backs since the beginning of the game. This entire game is a journey like no other game I've played... it gets down to the darkest subjects of life, and puts you through horrid choices which it seems as though nobody should face.

In the end -- spoiler alert here -- you choose between saving Chloe or the town. The moral concepts I faced, when this choice came up, I didn't know what to think. The storm as it turned out was caused by Max/the player for traveling through time. This game brings in rather obscure ideas of how time can be altered in more ways than thought, which brings up very interesting ideas about consciousness and our ability to choose.

Something I know in life, it's that we sometimes are just passengers of life, brought by fate for one reason or another, but ultimately it is us who decides our destiny. I feel like this game portrays that idea in a very elaborate and profound way. So, although this game legitimately had me shaking, crying in numerous ways, and even screaming in distress at literally 5 AM, this game is one of the best I know of. No, I am not a masochist, but I understand that life as a whole is not perfect. However, not everything is set in stone, and we have the choice to be good individuals. However we wish to do that, it is up to us, but this game portrays how it is doing something that is more than ourselves that ultimately really brings better meaning into life. It is a sense of love that is more than just romance; it is something truly amazing. This game has the good, and the bad, but isn't that life?

I'm fucking shaking. I'm sorry for being a little unprofessional with this entry, but, this game is bringing up some really bad things for me, especially with some really horrid shit going on recently. So much for doing college assignments without swearing, but I guess this is technically called a diary so I may as well let my emotions out somehow as I explain my experiences.

So basically what happened for me in the game, I thought things were going relatively well. The game at the end of episode one had shown me a glimpse of Chloe getting stuck on the train tracks, and I thought that was going to be the most intense portion connected with choices and whatnot. Oh, and about that, choices from the past episode sure seems to have caught up with this one.

Speaking of choices I can't change, this leads me into what happened with a certain person in the game who went by Kate. I had a choice to stand up for her in front of the police officer, but I didn't and just took a picture instead. I could have told her to go to the police for help, but I didn't do that either and said we needed more proof. As it turns out, she was in severe depression for having a viral video of her put up that she was wrongfully dosed on drugs by a *certain* character (damn Nathan) for during the time. When I was going up to the dorm building to see where the game was going next, she was standing on the roof and jumped. I thought I could save her with the power to turn back time, but even when I got on the roof, the irreversible choices I've made in the past caused her to jump anyway.

This seems eerily similar to my own experiences in life.

Enough about me, this game sure does put you in the experience, and before Kate jumped and I was saying how I've been bullied too, she told me along the lines "it's all about you, isn't it?"

So to finish this entry off, the character development is good. It's realistic. I've really found a closer bond with Chloe. I've found really profound feelings of hatred towards Nathan. This game sure puts one into the story, too. I can't stress that enough. It was so much more than I expected. It really leaves one thinking about the choices one makes in life.

This is a game that right as the first episode was ending, it left me crying (and I know, it barely has just started). The storytelling, music, and characters made it so immersive. But a huge factor is the way that you make decisions that literally puts you in the story more. How after you make a big decision, you reflect back on what could have been the right choice. I personally face terrible anxiety, and so I guess this game really makes me think about everything more. I suppose when Max let everything out at the end of episode 1, I personally felt a huge relief in myself.

Something I guess I dread a bit is what I could have done wrong in the game... sure, I understand the moral philosophy about how we can't turn back time, so we shouldn't worry about it. However, in this game, that rule is broken, so what am I supposed to do? I've been thinking about how you can't take some things back, and all I can do is just hope for the best. The only problem there... everything is kinda tied in a knot in the game and it brings you along for the ride.

I already have enough to worry about in this life already. I'll feel those emotions when I am meant to while playing, but I shouldn't let it bring me down. But I do have to say, this game really resonates with me so far in my experiences on many levels... including life being strange.

Well, let's see if I cry for the second play-through when that comes. T-T
