    Jan 28th, 2011 at 00:59:53     -    Pentago (Other)

Pentago is a 2 player strategy board game. The game is similar in style to classic board games like Penta and Connect 5 but with a literal twist.

    =The Board=

The board is a 6 x 6 grid that is broken into four 3 x 3 quadrents. Each of the quadrents can freely rotate from the rest of the board with simple but clever mechanism.

    =The Rules=

The rules are simple, each player has marbles of one color and must place them into and empty space on the grid , then to end their turn they must rotate a quadrant 90 degrees either clockwise or counter clockwise. A player wins when they line up a row of marbles five long. This row can be aligned horizontaly, vertically, or diagonally.

    =Game Play=

The games are short and take no more than a couple minutes to play, or at least they should. The first couple games were short as we were beginning to grasp the mechanics of the roation. These games lead to surprise victories and losses as the rotation had unforseen effects. Then as we were getting used to the game we started playing slower as we took more and more time to plan out our moves. This was a result of both of us being highly competative and not wanting to lose. This slower rate of play led to less games being played and less overall fun. However we realized the problem and both agreed to play quickly, which is a skill of its own, but this did in fact work. The game is increadibly fun, tring to subtlety lay out a winning pattern while twarting your oppent from doing the same all while watching for a deadly rotation that will defeat you or finding that rotation that will lead to your victory.

    =Overall=

Pentago is a quick to learn and play stategic game that seems simple but is deceptively deep and plenty of fun.
