When playing the game this time, I tried to pay as much attention to the actual game as possible, putting away what my thoughts about the inappropriateness of the game. The game is not really that fun to play and I really questioned why people would want to play it. You are very limited in what you can do in the game. The developer of the game only wanted you to do what they wanted. You are very restricted on what you can do in the game or even where you can go. In other games you can roam around and see what else there is. However, in this game, the screen is extremely small and what you see is pretty much all you have, which made me kind of bored. The creator really wanted to be in charge of what you can do, which really frustrated me. I do not really like being limited in what I can do when it comes to games and it makes me extremely bored. I thought the game would be a little more interesting than what it actually was, considering the topic that it is based on. Like I have said before, I do not really much experience playing other PC games so I cannot really compare, but this is definitely not what I was expecting. The game may be a few years old, but I thought it would be better done. The game does not seem very realistic either in my opinion. I am not sure if this is exactly what happened on that day, however, it does not really seem like it. The boys seemed much too calm and acted as if it was another day which I thought was a little odd. It seemed like the author toned down the behavior of the characters in a way to make them seem more cool and collected.

While playing Super Columbine Massacre RPG this time I decided to focus on the theme of violence. This game is pretty violent for such an animated game. As we have discussed in class and read, there are many different beliefs about violent video games. Some studies show that they do not make young kids violent, while others show that games such as these trigger young kids to be violent. The game is rated for mature; however, since it is an internet downloadable game, anyone can just go online and download it. No one can actually be stopped from doing so since we know most young kids have access to the internet and are not being monitored on what they do with it. This game, in my opinion, promotes violence to young kids and gives them the wrong idea. In this game while role playing the roles of the gunmen, you get this feeling of power. Like you can do anything and you are unstoppable. Many kids today suffer from being bullied in many ways, the most common today being cyber bullying. This game gives them the wrong idea of how to handle their problem of being bullied. When kids play such games, they really do not know what to think for the most part. My guess is that even though the Columbine shooting was such a major event in history, many young children may not know about it since it was before their time or maybe they were just too little to understand. Those who do not know about this, do not realize what a tragic and life-changing even this was for our country; they just think “oh I get to shoot a lot of people because they were mean to me.” This game promotes the wrong idea of how to solve problems. Now that I think about it, it really does surprise me that after this many years this game is still up and available for download. I would have thought that something like this would have been taken down long ago for it inappropriate content and giving out the wrong idea.

Playing Super Columbine Massacre RPG was an interesting experience. I had never really played any PC games, except for games like Need for Speed, but that is something completely different than this. The representation of the game seemed very amateur, (unless this is how PC games are and I just don’t know). The whole layout of the game was a little boring and could have looked way better if you ask me. While playing the game, I thought that you were a little limited on your options. Usually in games, you have a little more freedom in the game to do what you choose, however in this game that was not the case. Once the game started, you could not leave the room until you made a phone call, which I thought was a little silly, especially since I had a hard time locating the phone. I thought the game was a little inappropriate, on a few levels. I thought it was ethically questionable to make a game about something as horrible and tragic as the Columbine shooting and it surprised me that someone would do that. I do not know about other people, but other than the fact that I had to, I would not want to relive that day through the eyes of the shooters. In my opinion it is messed up and makes me question the creator. I know that people make games about pretty much anything, but I think that there is a line that should not be crossed and this game kind of crosses it.

    Apr 19th, 2012 at 09:57:03     -    Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS3)

As I was playing the game, I noticed many other stereotypes than just the one I discussed previously. Another stereotype in this game is gender. The role of women in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is negative just like in many other video games. Many if not most of the women portrayed in the game are prostitutes which you can pick up. I do not think you can sleep with them without using any cheats, however I can be wrong. It really interests me in games why it is not the other way around. Why can’t you have a woman main character and male prostitutes throughout the game? Many video games are made by men for men, who of course think this kind of behavior is okay. This made me curious to think what would happen if women were the ones making these games, if they would take it to this level and have their lead female characters sleep around with male prostitutes. But that is a question that we will now never know since it is always possible.

I think is game is fun to play. It lets you escape the real world and do things you wouldn’t otherwise. It made me think about playing it when I was a lot younger. I was playing the game and doing all these bad things without really thinking about them. I know I was not the only one, which made me curious about that attracts young children to want to play such graphic and violent games like this. I know it may seem fun and cool, but at young ages you really do not know what you are doing. It is a little crazy to think about what children can get their hands on these days. But it is even scarier to think about the people making these games. What would posses people to make games where you can kill other people, sleep with prostitutes, and run people over, etc.?

I decided this time, when playing the game, to try and be good. However, it kind of made the game less fun. What is the point of doing the right thing when you could do the wrong thing and still get something out of that? I went along my mission trying not to hurt people nor do anything that would be looked at as morally wrong, but when I thought about it, there was not much left that I could actually do. In video games like this, you are kind of forced to act unethically and immorally if you want to play the game and have fun. You could not kill people, but that in turn would get you killed. In the end I decided to just go along and act immorally and actually stay alive and have fun playing the game.
