    Mar 2nd, 2007 at 14:10:43     -    Super Mario 64 (N64)

For the second session of my gaming experience I decided to play in the Lethal Lava Land level. This level is great because the lava restricts you from being able to cross to other areas easily. Another thing I like is that instead of simply dying when you hit the lava Mario jumps into the air grapping his butt. This allows a player to try to navigate himself back onto safe land before all of his life runs out. I decided to get a star by bullying the bullies which I remember was like king of the ring, you simply need to knock them off into the lava. I remember this seemed much harder when I originally played it but I still enjoyed getting this star. The best part about this level is the numerous booby traps and pattern recognition that is necessary to navigate through the level in one piece. This level is a great example of how level designers still created a challenging path to follow even though the level is actually a huge 3d world.

    Mar 2nd, 2007 at 14:10:20     -    Super Mario 64 (N64)

Mario 64 was one of the most revolutionary games of its time and for this very reason I decided to analyze some aspects of its gameplay. The greatest part about this game is even though it may not have the most advanced graphics in comparison to recently released titles it still has many of the components that are essential to creating an exiting game. Apparently Jumping Flash was the first 3d plat former which I happened to receive in a demo CD for my original PS1. Jumping Flash is nothing compared to Super Mario 64 which allows complete freedom of movement and camera angles. I decided to try the Bob-omb Battlefield because I have so many memories attached to the first time that I tried out a level in a 3D world. The greatest part about this game is being able to super jump (trigger and Jump) throughout the levels and get places faster. I did a couple missions to get the easier stars like releasing that huge guy from his chained post. I forgot how fun it was to ride the turtle shell like a skateboard which was by far my favorite experience about this level.

For my second video game playing session I decided to warp to the lava levels because I remember those were the ones that I had the most trouble with. I played one of the first of the boat levels and I got to battle against the cannons once again. I was watching a video from you tube once and it showed some guy bounce off all of the cannonballs to chain together a link of points. I tried doing this but I could never get myself to link more than four cannonball jumps in a row but it still gave me a significant amount of points. This level was great I felt like I was playing cannonball dodge ball. I also really liked playing against those guys who pop out of the deck and throw hammers into the air. I am glad that I played this level in its entirety and didn’t resort to using a P Wing to cheat my way through.

    Feb 23rd, 2007 at 13:57:24     -    Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)

I decided to play Super Mario Bros 3 for NES because it is one of the all time greatest games. I wanted to start the game from the beginning so that I could once again get the feel for this great plat former. I made sure to get the first whistle as quickly as I could so I could warp to some cool levels. It was great playing against classic enemies like Goombas and the Piranha Plants but they really didn’t pose much of a threat to a player that is accustomed to the difficulty of newly released games. I made sure to fight through the first castle so I could once again use the fire flower and beat down Larry Koopa. I always remember how I would love to run as fast as I could with Mario through every Castle level and try to avoid getting hit once. At the end Princess awarded me handsomely with a P-Wing which I know will come in handy when I play some of the harder levels. I always save the P Wing for the extremely hard lava levels where the cannons keep shooting off, it is always much easier to fly over the top of the whole level.
