I've kept going with the same game and made some good progress. Both my sims have rather nice relationships. I got the chick pregnant and the guy engaged. I haven't moved the other sims into the house, though, mostly because I just don't feel like dealing with them. The business is going great. I have two hot tubes, a really nice pool with statues in it, two bowling alleys, a public restroom with music and a disco floor, And some other random cool objects. I make quite a lot of money with it. There's a constant flow in, plus bonuses for the business growing, and in addition to that my sims are making money at work. It's really fun to have the business. There are always people around to make things interesting.

    Things of interest:
    1) I really want an alien baby and it's ridiculously hard to get one without cheating :(
    2) Families are so much more interesting when they're complicated and unusual
    3) Banging people you work with is a great way to get promotions, and having great dates is a really great way to get free cool stuff (I got a free hot tub and fancy statue)

I think I'm ready to start a new game now. I want to start from the beginning, no cheating. This game is so addicting..

Okay, so I've devoted another solid hour, probably more, of my life to the Sims and I think there are a couple things worth noting. This game takes time. What makes it pleasant to play is accomplishing milestones in the sim's lives, but these things don't happen quickly.

The first thing I did was build my siblings a really rockin house. It was built completely up on columns. One story tall, but two stories up in the air. After I finished this and and started off their minor business consisting of a single bowling alley and a machine to make sims pay to use it I was out of money (which I shouldn't have had in the first place). I may have gone over the top with the house, but building nice places is half the fun. They didn't make much from the bowling alley (not surprisingly), so I had to get them jobs as well. Basically all I've been doing for this whole time is working up their careers and building up their business. It's hard to say that it's a ton of fun, rather just addicting as hell. I've always got such grad notions of where I want to get them. There's never a place where I'm fully satisfied. I'm always working towards something or bored and starting over (in a way that I consider to be somehow better than how things went for my last family.

I know the next thing I should do is start over again with no cheating what-so-ever, but I'm just not satisfied with this family yet. The two have got crushed I'd like to do more with and there is just so much more I can do with their property.

    Things worth noting:
    1) They can definitely both be at work and still have their place open, which rocks because I'm constantly making money.
    2) The business is definitely growing. Happy people are getting stars, but how long can I keep this up for?
    3) I really loath loading in this game, and I have a pretty sweet computer, so it's not that. It makes it hard for me to ever go outside my own lot. I also don't like that all my stats will go down while I'm off the lot and then when I come back it's still the same exact time. This makes for a very tired sim. However, I very much like buying funky clothes, so alas, I must venture out into the scary world.

    Oct 13th, 2006 at 16:22:37     -    The Sims (PC)

For the last few days I've been playing The Sims 2 with three expansion packs (University, Nightlife, and Open for Business). I've actually played this game a lot before. As soon as it came out for macs I got quite addicted. Once things got busy again I had to push it aside, but being assigned to play it for school has been a great opportunity to start playing it again. (This time it's no waist of my time at all, right ^_^ )

What I have really been messing around with in these last couple days has been the open for business expansion pack. I started off with one girl I made myself and popped her onto a lot with a cute little house, gave myself a cheat of a large some of money and got going. (I know, cheating is lame, but I just wanted to see what running a business was like and needed a little boost to get it going) Unfortunately, I apparently know nothing about running a business. I was too quick to hire employees, and lost money rapidly. I then decided to just run it myself, but the one character wasn't enough. I got her a roommate/girlfriend (giggles) and they started running it. Thing were going better, but it was tedious work. I decided to start a new family. I chose a pre-made brother and sister to run a much more hands-off business. Now this is the coolest thing ever. Basically what I'm going to do is buy neat stuff and make other sims pay just to come onto my lot. Sweet! (I'm still planing to start off with a little extra money, this way I can figure things out. It's rough when they're uber poor and you don't even know what you're trying to do.)

Some things I'm curious to find out:
    1) Will I be able to make enough money for them to survive? (naturally)
    2) Can the business still grow when I'm not actually trying to sell things?
    3) Can the business stay open when they're both at work?

    Some things I've noticed:
    1) I can lock doors now! What a handy feature, I don't want random people eating my food and sleeping in my bed.
    2) Cheating too much quickly makes this game amazingly boring. I guess it's not so awesome to be able to control anything you want.
