    eriph's Star Fox 64 (N64)

    [January 31, 2007 08:48:16 PM]
Star Fox! And I say, "Ow, my thumb hurts."

I ended up getting through the game once in this gaming session. Or one of the paths, at least. Androssssss, the big floating brain.~

Firstly, I haven't played this game in well over six years. (Looking at the title screen, it was made in 1997. Which makes it 10 years old now! GOD I FEEL OLD. I was in like 6th grade when this came out.) But I was able to go straight through it on the red paths right away--not even on purpose. (Er, except I messed up on Zoness so I had to go to Macbeth instead of Sector Z--but Macbeth is way more fun anyway.)

Aquas wasn't a whole lot of fun. I think I had the most trouble there. Mostly because I don't really dig the Blue Marine sub all that much. But that's pretty much the only level you use that vehicle, so I can't complain.

The Landmaster tank, on the other hand, I love that thing. You only get to use it on two planets, but it's so damn fun. I would rather be in that the whole game instead of the Arwing.

Star Fox is one of those games, if you played it enough times when it first came out, you know every single sound clip each character is going to say in response to certain events. I found myself saying dialogues between characters ("Who are you guys?" "We're Star Fox!") and yelling out stupid stuff like "Do a barrel roll!" (... :D)

This first time through, I actually did better in some respects than I had in the game way back when. I got 4th place in my previous rankings, and managed to keep everyone alive for the whole game--except for Slippy, who died at the very last second while we were fighting Star Wolf on Venom. (In most of the other rankings, a least one or two of my guys went MIA before then.)

I like being able to charge up and lock onto things. The original Star Fox didn't have that, and not a whole lot of shmuppy games do, to the best of my knowledge. That way you can take out a bunch of enemies at a time.

So...yes. Star Fox. Space shooting love. Next session, I'll play through it again on a different path. I didn't get to go to Meteo or any of the fun levels on the easier paths, so I'll aim for those next time.

One of the few shooty-type games I continually enjoy and am actually pretty darn good at.
