    mackenzi's Starcraft (PC)

    GAMEPLAY

After playing more of this game, I start to get more and more involved in the story. The game is paralleling historical events namely the Civil War, there is even a level called New Gettysburg. Plot twists and turns inspire you to fight for what is right, be it Zerg, Protoss, or even your own race Terran. I haven't finished the Terran campaign as of yet but I think i will soon and I am getting very excited to play as both Zerg and Protoss.

I have tried various strategies to complete the levels each have their strengths and weaknesses. One of my favorite ways to advance through the ranks of the enemy is: have a building unit, SCV for Terran, build turrets along and have your tanks set up for long range and high damage. I also like building a lot of Wraiths and cloaking them to sneak up and kill stray units.

Another neat aspect to the game is the heroes. Almost each level has a hero in it that has to survive to complete the level. Just before I wrote this GameLog I failed my first mission. I wasn't paying attention and one of my hero died. It said mission failed and this music came on that was not at all inspiring, it was like I had lost a friend almost, a make believe friend at least. I sure know I'm not gonna let that happen again.

    DESIGN

Starcraft is pretty basic amount RTS's is earlier counterpart of Warcraft II was one of my favorite games of all time and Starcraft is very similar in design and control. One of my favorite features that most RTS have is the right click interface, and with a simple right click your units will know to collect minerals, mine gas, move, or attack.

The graphics are pretty good for its time and an RTS, anyhow I didn't really like the little bit I played of Warcraft III because of the graphics, they looked too busy. I like keeping it simple when it comes to my RTSs. But I did very much like the varied worlds that I was able to play on. I went from a plush world to a hazardous space ship, to space platforms themselves.

The story design that I've seen so far has been great but every game that I have played from Blizzard has had great story and lore behind it. The story was very much helped along by the cinematics that were tastefully dispersed throughout my game play, and the mission briefings before each level where very helpful at getting you to understand your reason for fighting, cause who likes fighting for not reason, no one thats who.

    SUMMARY

An RTS where you can be one of 3 races each with their strengths and weaknesses. Has both campaign, where you fight you're way through various levels to save your respective race, and multi-player options.

    GAMEPLAY

As of now I have played through about half of the Terran campaign and am enjoying it thoroughly. It has been several years since I have played through this game so it's just like new. When I first started playing I wanted to start with the Protoss' campaign but I soon learned you can't start with whichever race you would like it was a bit annoying, but I soon got over it and started my Terran campaign.

The Terran campaign has turned out to be quite enthralling. Before each level you are given a briefing and occasionally a cinematic. The briefing gives you your objectives for the level. When you're getting your briefing the CI is talking to you as if you were right there in the space shit you are getting briefed in. It was pretty cool because you got to feel like you were really there and the mission you were about to set forth on was yours in real life.
