Game Log #1 Summary: The newest edition to the Turok franchise for the 360 follows similarly in suite of the two previous. We play as the character Turok, a new addition to a rag n' tag group of marines. From the start we learn of Turok's troubled past, leading many characters to doubt his loyalty early on. From the action packed intro, this first person shooter takes you to a savage planet where dinosaurs roam wild and mysterious soldiers attempt to steal your lifeblood. Upon escaping the burning wreckage, you must make your way to the other pieces of the ship. Game play: Having not played Turok since its original release on the Nintento 64, i was excited to test the game on a next generation console. The game follows basic first person shooter guidelines but adds many new dimensions to the typical archetype of the genre. On top of this, the character Turok has been fleshed out and given an intricate back story. The first noticeable difference between this FPS and others is the elaborate use of mini-games. Similar to God of War, in certain situations you are pulled out the body of Turok to the third person perspective in where you must execute a button sequence or be killed. However, the sequence is usually simple and the cinematic value of the mini-game is truly epic. Also, "Turok" employed a duel wielding system very similar to the halo sequels, allowing for dynamic gameplay, either middle range with zoom or a double machine gun assault. Another notable part of the game is the amount of back story created for the character Turok. Shown to us through a series of flashbacks, Turok is seen early in his life, shackled and dressed in an orange jumpsuit. He was one of many inmates selected for military training and indoctrination into a black ops program. We also learn more of his native american past, his tribe considered some of the greatest warriors in history. Also, through character interaction, we learn of Turok's apparent betrayal of his squad on an earlier mission of infamous proportions. All together, Turok has been given an air of mystery and power that should propel him through the savage jungles of this ominous planet.
