Furious Jorge's Resonance of Fate (360)

    [December 23, 2010 12:42:13 AM]
Today shall be the first day I create a game log (outside of class assignments). On the menu today shall be a Japanese RPG by tri-Ace. My expectations from playing previous tri-Ace games leads me to expect a story about a bunch of people who band together to save the planet from pollution or a greater evil, a decent combat system, and awkward dialogue between the characters, which written out sounds like many RPGs. Also if there is any sexual innuendo like in Star Ocean: The Last Hope, which came out a month after by tri-Ace, I believe, I will not be very happy. Now to begin the game and many sentence fragments.

The game opens with a cinematic, where a blonde boy saves a girl who tried to kill herself by jumping off a bridge. Interesting… I have started playing Eternal Sonata a few days ago and that game begins with a female character jumping to her death also. Eternal Sonata was created by tri-Crescendo, which is a different game company made by tri-Ace’s old sound programmer, I believe. Interesting coincidence.

This is one grungy-looking game! I’m having difficulty differentiating planes between the foreground and the background. At least these conveniently placed NPCs have no problem informing me of the entire history of this city. Never mind, they only implied that they knew. Hmmm I have just paused the game to look for a subtitle option, and the only option I see are the resume button and a manual, and the manual has worried me a little with the barrage of information about the battle system. I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.

“That wasn’t a battle that was an assisted suicide,” states Zephyr, who I have no idea who he is, as my first battle concluded. My first assisted suicide was very confusing and hectic. When I went to the world map, for the first time, I entered into battle. This is the first time I entered battle in a world map screen in a RPG. The ensuing battle initiated with my characters nimbly and acrobatically shooting their enemies to death, while I jammed the A button in an attempt to make myself feel in control of the situation. In all honesty I enjoyed the weird acrobatic gun fighting I saw, but I realized something important after the battle. This is that I do not know who or what I just killed and why I was attack, how use the combat system, where I am, who I am, and where I am supposed to go. All I know at the moment is that there is a suicidal lady who enjoys having her death prolonged by a handsome blonde chap (he doesn’t actually save her, he just continues to plummet with her), while plummeting to their death with no follow up on those strange events. Oh I also know that there is a small NPC child who is curious about cardinals, no not the birds but I got you thinking about them didn't I? Anywaaay, aside from me not being funny, I have decided to partake in some side missions, since I am hopelessly lost. Ah it seems I had to press X in the world map to unlock some hexagonal tiles that make up the world map to travel to other areas.

When you enter dialogue with NPCs in this game they usually say several words, such as “hey listen,” and then their dialogue continues in text. Well what I am trying to say here is that every time I hear someone say, “hey listen,” I experience some serious nostalgia of that little fairy in Zelda Ocarina of Time yelling at me. Looks like I have logged an hour and 44 minutes into this game today probably leaving me with many many days to finish this game, yet I still remain ignorant of what is going on in the game. This concludes my first official game log and my first day on Resonance of Fate. Goodnight to those who have read my entire log!
