This weekend, it was time to replay Skyrim. From the starting moments where you wake up, dazed and confused, on the back of a carriage, to the first time a dragon appears, a sense of wonder never leaves you. When wondering around the unimaginably large world in Skyrim, it can be a daunting task. When first played, the missions are so largely spread out; just arriving at the destination can take hours in the game. The journey to a mission destination is also filled with many distractions such as random enemies, awesome looking caves and buildings, and the occasional wild animal. Making journeys to the same area several times could be a dreadful and boring undertaking. But Skyrim has a fantastic feature called fast travel that allows the players easy access to discovered locations. This allows players the freedom to move around the large map in a matter of seconds, if, of course, the player has already discovered the destination. The sense of accomplishment and success of finding a new cave, ruin, or city is not lost.
Skyrim has no end. It is an RPG with hundreds of hours of gameplay. The main story, while fascinating and exciting, is not entirely essential to playing the game. The amount of side quests and missions alone can fill hours worth of cool, well thought-out, adventures.
An interesting component of the game play is the ability to be in first-person and in third with the click of a button. The first-person aspect allows the player to feel more immersed in the character they created. But the third person ability is wonderful when battling multiple opponents. The player has a better view and can see behind the on screen character without turning (as in first-person).
Skyrim allows the player to choose her own path. The dialogue options allow a multitude of choices while going through a mission. The player can play the game several times and have different reactions from the AIs and even different outcomes in the missions.
Even though this game is approaching a year old, it never fails to impress with its jaw-dropping sceneries, epic score, rich story, and easy game-play mechanics.
