bri's Tokimeki Memorial: Forever with you (PS)

    [October 23, 2003 05:30:13 PM]
It's been a couple weeks since I played Tokimeki. Time's got real short, and my thesis work is to where my time's better spent creating rather than playing games to see what's out there.

I've enjoyed TokiMeki, though the language barrier still proves nearly impossible to break. Available FAQs in English have a bad habit of leaving out details of questions the girls ask you while you're out on a date together and my command of the language isn't such that I can make out what they're saying in less than ten minutes/line of text (if I understand it at all). Add to that how TokiMeki appears to present the responses in random order, and progress gets really slow.

I plan to come back to it when there's time again, but who knows when that will be. I'll mark this as stopped due to frustration, but it's less a question of frustration with the game and more a question of getting tired of wading through language difficulties. In order to properly progress through the game you have to say the right things during dates, and I'm not linguistically equipped to handle it well enough to play through to the end with a reliable chance of winning over any of the characters.

It's soooo hard to increase my stats. I'm considering just using the Konamiman code so I can get all my stats buffed into the 500s. Of course, it doesn't help that so far the only girl I've found interesting is Shiori, the girl next door with impossible to meet standards. (Art mirrors life?)

I still need to investigate the effects of club membership on how much the girls like you. I'm guessing the greatest effect comes when you join a club one of the girls is in, but at the moment I'm stalled trying to see if there's anyone whose heart I'd like to win with this save. I figure I'll do a separate save to try and win over Shiori, though I just might have good enough stats that I can just branch into multiple saves from where I'm at. And my guy insists on talking with Shiori every time he sees her walking to or from school. (Unfortunately, I still haven't managed to decipher what they're saying.)

Actually released in 1995 rather than 96, but we don't yet have a '95 option.

Win the heart of the girl of your choice and declare your love for each other under the fabled tree of eternal love as you finish high school together. It sounds so simple, but can you develop yourself sufficiently that the girl of your dreams gives you a second look? Can you make sure not to stick your foot in it when you get that long anticipated date?
