    dkirschner's Universe Sandbox (PC)

    [September 17, 2013 10:42:56 AM]
This isn't a game so much as a universe simulation. I've been toying with it off and on for maybe two years. You create plants, moons, other astral bodies, set orbits, sizes, mass and so on. It's neat to play with all these variables that affect massive planets and suns and solar systems. For me though, I pretty quickly get bored of it without some objective to work toward. I remember playing it during some Steam sale over winter to get some special achievements like 'freeze the solar system' or 'crash earth into the sun' or whatever. I think that kind of stuff is really fun and I will play god to make those kinds of things happen if I get something for it. In and of themselves, those goals aren't terribly exciting. I have made up goals for myself and have gone online to find scenarios, but I've just got no real motivation to do much else.

If Universe Sandbox had more achievements, a story perhaps, more game-driven things to do, I would enjoy it more and more often. I think something open-ended like this is where achievements can really enhance experience.

dkirschner's opinion and rating for this game

Fun to experiment with, not for much else. Needs more challenges/achievements/guidance.
