jp's Marvel Super Hero Squad: The Infinity Gauntlet (DS)

Again, I'm not the target audience - but it's a cute and simple game that was...not that enjoyable to be honest. Not because it was too easy or too hard - but for what I think are game design issues.

It's a a neat little game in which you get to play with two Marvel super heroes as you run around and collect all the infinity gems. It's very much played for cutes and laughs - you only learn about the first gem because there's a package delivery mixup and you get the gauntlet (while Thanos gets some boots Thor ordered).

Anyways, you control one character - easily swapping over to the other as needed (like all the Lego games...), and each hero has a special ability you often need to clear puzzles, gain access to areas, etc. It works quite well on the DS - though the areas are a bit small and there's some clear reload/re-set (pretty seamless, there's no real loading). Oh, and there are stations from which you can access/swap into other characters. Say, you need Thor to power up a floorplate marked with a lightning bolt...

There's some light combat which is really annoying as some characters have no way to dodge/block and you can get stuck into corners really easy with two opponents wailing on you. It's annoying - but the game is pretty forgiving when it comes to death (and healing, you heal up between small-screen areas which was nice). It's definitely not meant to be a super challenging game...

...except that the boss battles are much harder! Each level/chapter ends on a boss fight with a pre-determined hero and you have to work at them a lot more. I died plenty of times - and this is where the loosey-goosey combat system really shows its cracks and it also represents a huge jump in difficulty from the regular game.

So, I'm bowing out...it's just not fun enough for me.
