Marcellano's GameLog for 1979 Revolution: Black Friday (PC)

    Thursday 8 November, 2018

I have now beaten the game. It was a lot shorter than I expected it to be, it took me just under 2 hours to complete. The game's story was very good and the style/game play was also done very well. Being able to feel like you are actually participating in the revolution and making impactful decisions made the game quite entertaining. The only down sides I have for the game, is that most of the decisions you have to make you do not know the entire context of the situation. Which makes it hard to chose the "right" thing to do. I could have missed some things though, but I really tried to inspect and do everything I could possibly find, so when it came to those important decisions I had a good idea of everything going on and knew what to do.
Another thing that was a bit of a problem was some small bugs here and there. There will be times where you go to inspect something and pick it up and you get stuck on that screen and no matter what you do or press you cannot exit out of it. It made me have to start over on a couple of chapters but it was not too big of a deal.
The game really made you chose between two or three very different options most of the time. Mostly there was at least one that was obviously considered morally wrong to most people, such as wrongfully killing someone. And another that could be considered morally right, such as helping a wounded person. I really used my own morals to make decisions, because the in game timer forced you to make a decision quick, and I could not really apply too much from class to help make my choices.

Great job! You put a lot of emphasis on the way that the game made you make fast decisions, which I think is an interesting facet of decision driven games. How does putting a timer on a choice change your decision making process? Were there times that you realized you would have chosen something else if you’d had more time, or did you typically stop thinking about a decision once it had been made? You also talked about how you didn’t always have all the information. Were there times when you felt like your character would have more information, or were those all situations where you knew as much as the character did? Would having more information change those decisions as well?
