Left 4 Dead (PC)

Status: Played occasionally
I started playing this game on Saturday 2 May, 2009
Current opinion of this game
Yes, it's as crazy and hectic as you may imagine.

Hmmm... a few more things I'm not sure about:

(a) Do headshots against the tank have any impact? (do they do more damage?)

(b) Can you reload while meleeing?

I can't believe I've already unlocked nearly half the achievements. They're fun!

I'm really enjoying the ambiance and the overall vibe. I'm still pretty confused about a few things so I thought I'd list them out as a sort of "things I need to explore":

(a) Does anybody use the hunting rifle? Why? I haven't actually tried it, but the idea of sniping seems counterproductive (the zombies are too fast and too many). Perhaps it packs a significant punch up close?

(b) What's the use of the shotgun? Similar question. I think I have to try this one out though. I'm assuming the shotgun works really well short range and could take out multiple zombies in one shot.

(c) When I first started playing I was very cautious (I guess like I would be if placed in a similar situation in real life). That's not the way it works...in fact, it is detrimental to the experience because you can see through the cracks. I've seen zombies warp in and out...but is a bit of a disappointment. So, is it best to simply run through as fast as possible?

(d) The vs mode SEEMS like it should be fun (this is the one where you alternate playing zombies and survivors). Whenever I've played, I'm on a team that is getting creamed. Seriously. We all die 2 feet out of the safe house...and then get destroyed when playing as the zeds. I need to figure out what's going on there as well as how to best play the zeds.

(e) When you take pills your vision changes....does this have any other gameplay effect? Not sure...or, said differently, I haven't noticed.

(f) Survival mode seems to be the most fun so far. Short, yet really intense. The regular campaign mode gets a little old a little fast. (though I have to try it on the harder difficulty levels).

After playing the 360 version co-op with some friends I've finally caved and bought the PC version. Of course it helped that its on sale on Steam. Not as good as the half-price it was on a while ago but still, 40% ain't that bad.

I'm a bit of a softie when it comes to zombies so I've been a bit surprised that it's taken this long for a decent zombie survival game to come out. Yes, there are plenty of zombie games, but I don't think many have captured the "Dawn of the Dead" or "28 Days Later" feeling.

So far I've had a blast. I played a bit solo and did the Mercy campaign on co-op. I like how the game fosters co-op by warning you when your teammates are in trouble and that sort of thing. However, I'm surprised by how tricky it can be at times to navigate the environments and avoid shooting your teammates! It's not that I do that sort of thing a lot, but still...when in a narrow corridor it gets a bit tricky I must confess.

I'm looking forward to playing all the other campaigns as well as trying out the different game modes.
