Hmmm, here's another example of a game that has seen a remarkable second wind due to my son picking it up and going wild with it. To the degree that I've been roped back in to playing it as well, and my daughter too! I'll confess that I had seen it simply as a mostly unsophisticated kart racer that was trying to coast along on Little Big Planet's aesthetic. The karting however is much more solid than I thought and, more importantly, the online creation/sharing/modding/downloading and so on IS REALLY, REALLY, solid too. There's tons of fun content to look at and download. The one area I haven't yet explored is the race track creator. However my sense, from watching my son use it, is that it's also great!

Now I just need to convince some friends of mine to play it...

My son actually picked up the game and gave it a whirl. I have newfound respect for it. The "Little Big Planet" aesthetic is more than just skin-deep since the game actually has a lot of customization options, community downloads, and more. Some of this I think I knew about, but must have conveniently forgotten or simply ignored.

I'm still not all that impressed with the racing side of things, but I think I just need to play it some more (and for longer) before I become accustomed to its particular style.

Once again, the main reason to really hate current-generation consoles reared its head. I bought this game online a few days ago and wanted to test it (so make sure it worked). I wasn't planning on playing it more than necessary to make sure it worked. So, I slide the disc in, it starts loading and then... Oh! There's an update you need to download/install in order to play! You have to do it... About an hour later, I was ready to go. 1 hour! Did I really HAVE to download 5 updates (about 1 Gig in total) just to test the game and see if it worked? Why can't the game let me choose whether or not I wanted the install, and, perhaps didn't let me play online? Grrrrrrrr....
