It's ok, but didn't live up to the hype.

Ok, so I finished the game. I guess for me the hype really dashed the experience because although I'll admit it was fun, I wasn't blown away. I was also looking forward to the "big moral choice" - but it wasn't that big or, to be fair, I wasn't that invested in it to really care all that much. I chose to continue (rather than "reset" the world) and I guess I must say that neither choice seemed like the obvious "good" one. Or maybe I misunderstood the whole thing.

Now I need to decide whether or not to keep on playing (for achievements and other nonsense) or not. The game also has a "+" option...but I'm not too keen on it to be honest.

I guess I should also say that I chose to carry Zulf out rather than leave him there. I have no idea if that mattered for anything or not.

I thought I was just shy of the last level, but no...there were at least two more. I think. The next one might be the last one or I might have the rug pulled out from under me again. Sigh.

So, I'm starting to appreciate the game a little bit more after I got some feedback (thanks!) on the relative pointlessness of trying to destroy everything. Thus, I'm moving through the game a little faster and having more fun. I've also started experimenting more with weapon combinations (now that all the weapons are available to me). There are a few things that I still find annoying - and I'm not sure if that's just how they are or if I need to figure something out. For example, I just unlocked the something cannon which is pretty nifty, but it's a real pain to aim. The aiming reticule is too sensitive, swinging wildly from one end to the other which makes it hard to fine-tune. I've had the same issue with all the other weapons, but the cannon is particularly aggravating because it has a "warm-up" before it actually fires. For the other weapons you can fire them quickly enough it doesn't bother me that much, or they have an area effect (e.g. the mortar) that makes precision less important. A missed shot with the cannon simply flies by...

I've also been trying to make sense of the story. I'm not sure if I missed a lot in the beginning or what, but I'm having a really hard time understanding things. So there was a calamity which apparently destroyed a world. There are (were?) two factions and one (my faction?) was responsible for the calamity in the first place but the survivors of the 2nd faction (the zia?) are trying to attack me anyways. I'm not sure why the calamity happened in the first place - was it my (or my factions?) fault? I think I see where this might be going...but I'm not sure that it'll work emotionally (oh my god, I'm the bad guy?!) because I'm so confused thus far. I also don't know who the heck the narrator is although I feel I should know by this point. Oh well...we'll see what happens. I'm only 5 hrs in!

I'm not sure what all the fuss about this game is. Yes, the narrator guy is fun and interesting, but the game isn't particularly special. I think at least. I'm playing it on the PC, which was terrible (if you use the keyboard), and oh so much better with a controller. But still...

I've spent most of the game wandering around killing mostly the same enemies... It's annoying to have to hack/slash at everything just in case it drop "currency". And while the effect of having the background elements drop in from the sky just when you're about to get there is neat, it gets old when you're trying to figure out where to go and what to do. In a nutshell, I feel like I have to always walk everywhere just in case there's something I might be missing.
