Current opinion of this game
Worth a few hours if you pick it up for a (very) low price.

I picked this up for roughly the same price I'd pay for an app. In many ways I've gotten much better value even if the game is something of a disaster. I'm also surprised by how old it is - for some reason I was under the impression that the Beijing olympics were the most recent ones until I saw the year. Wow. Is the PS3 really that old? That kind of shocked me, to be honest.

As for the game - my son and I played a large number of events with each other. It was a mixture of pain (some events we never could figure out what to do exactly - I never managed a succesful long jump), humor (some of the graphical bugs and glitches were amusing), and fun. It also seemed like a strangely balanced game - while we generally competed for who came in last/next-to-last, we also achieved an olympic and world record each (in different events). That was quite unexpected. I guess I thought we'd come in middle-of-the-pack most of the time. Since we never did an event more than once, we didn't get much of a chance to practice and (presumably) improve enough to start getting awesome results.

In all, we had some fun playing but probably won't be plonking this in the PS3 again. But, we had an evenings' fun for a (very) decent price.
