Still playing!

At this point I'm not really getting much in the way of new cards every day but I'm enjoying trying out new kinds of decks.

I'm currently experimenting with a "dino" deck that is mostly dinosaurs and has a dinosaur that boosts all the other dinosaurs when they come in. It's a pretty tough deck that sometimes really steamrolls my opponents. Othertimes it just falls apart. I'm not sure what the weak point is, to be honest.

My other deck is an abomination deck that's all abomination monsters. There's one card in particular I'm really enjoying since I think I've figured it out. It basically lets you kill one of your abominations (and then you can play an extra card). I've realized that I can use it to cast an abomination, kill it, and then cast whatever other card I really wanted to play. The trick is that by casting and killing I can level the cast card up faster AND, in some cases, take advantage of the death effects that lots of abomination cards have (e.g. deal damage to opponent, reduce enemy monsters strength, etc.). Not bad!

Still playing this steadily. I really appreciate getting new cards daily (just for logging in you get something) as well as the draft system. There are a few other things where I think they've REALLY nailed the experience (compared to, say, Hearthstone):

1. I've had the app crash once or twice while in the middle of a game. When I reload the game - the game's state is still there! If it crashed while it was my turn I'll probably have lost some time (if playing a timed game), but the game is still there! No automatic loss if/when disconnected! I was so amazed and grateful when I noticed this, it makes such a difference for me.

2. During a game you can tap out the menu and do stuff...including starting another game! I can have three different matches running in parallel. AND, when in the middle of a match, if there's another match that's ready for you (it's your turn), you get a little UI indicator and you can switch over. I don't know how many games it can handle (I've done up to three), but I LOVE this feature. It allows me to test decks much faster and also makes the general experience more engaging because I'm not sitting there staring at the screen waiting for my opponent to make a move.

Only "gripe" (more like a feature request) I have at the moment is a way to see what the game's log was. You don't always see what your opponents play - just experience the effects, and I'd like to know just for reasons of better understanding some cards/effects/etc. Oh, I guess I'd also like to see my own player stats...and if I could have deck stats (win/loss) that would also be fantastic.

Other than that, I'm actually looking forward to spending a little bit of money on the game. It's been really fun to experiment with new decks/cards and so on.

I friend introduced me to this and I must say I've been enjoying learning it quite a bit. It's a digital CCG whose "twist" is that each card has different levels. When you play a card, it "levels up" with the new (stronger/improved) version) added to your discard pile. Every 4 turns the player levels up and the discards are shuffled back in to a new draw pile. It's a cool mechanic that obviously benefits from the digital side. I guess you could do it with regular cards, but it would be a bit onerous.

The other simplification it has from regular CCGs is that there is no resource management. Every turn you can play two cards. That's it. You also draw five and the ones you don't play get discarded. It's quite a simple system (there are also 5 lanes you place your creatures in), so games generally move along quite quickly.

It's a free-to-play game with micro-transactions. Actually, they're more like "regular to macro" transactions. I think they're store model is a bit broken because you have to spend a fair amount of money to get "packs" with cards (they have premium packs and treasure chests with super rare cards), while being quite generous with regular packs/cards. You can basically get 3 packs a day for free for playing enough games. You also earn silver which you can use to buy more cards. So, I feel like I have tons of cards and it doesn't seem worth spending money for a handful of premium cards.

I still spent $5, but mostly because I was feeling like I wanted to contribute towards the company (I have no idea if they're swimming in cash or not), since I've been having fun with the game.
