It figures that as soon as I taught the kids to play (we did one game with me driving the bus and explaining what was going on before they played mostly on their own), they'd get to Mars. Only one instance of cannibalism, but only one survivor. But still!

The game's sheen wears of a little once you get to Mars, but I still plan on playing more just to see if I can pull it off without the anthropophagia. Of course, I'll also need a fair amount of luck as well...

I started playing because I was interested in seeing whether it's a good game to play for ethics class. It seems less interesting to me now than it was then, but I think I need to chew on it a bit more before I decide.

I've only played 4-5 games so far and I now have a better understanding of the different mechanics. The first couple of games felt really unfair - but I now realize that I didn't understand how some of the ship locations worked and what the characters did. That being said, I still haven't won a game though I came THIS close once (with three survivors!). I'm a bit miffed by that to be honest because I misunderstood one of the research options I had activated (at high expense, I must add). The situation was as follows:

Three survivors, last stop. In order to save the crew you need to take them to the command module AND the ship must survive the last round. Chances are this means that you'll be leaving someone behind because they'll have to fix/repair something in another module in order for the ship to stay intact such the everyone in the command module can escape. In my case I was able to repair the ship so that it would survive the damage, but I had to locations that would cause wounds (total of three). However, by "paying" 6 I bought a research option that would negate wounds. It turns out that this doesn't apply to wounds caused by turns (and only by stuff during your turn?). Major disappointment.
